7db807b0de fix: return the era-parsed tool, and hide aggregate reports in paginated mode (#1909)
Copilot round 8.

The era contract validated with the wire schema but returned the raw input,
so the wire schema's normalization was discarded — both era schemas are
z.object, which strips unknown top-level fields as the strict codec does, so
salvaged tools could carry fields the strict path drops. The parsed output is
now what gets normalized and returned. This also simplifies the bridge: issues
come straight from the wire parse with their paths intact, so the custom-issue
forwarding (and its early describeIssue application) is gone.

The malformed-entry report is written by the aggregate walk's salvage, but in
paginated mode the tools/prompts/resources panels render the paged stores,
which neither write nor clear it — leaving a stale warning above a freshly
fetched page it does not describe, with indices into an aggregate the user is
no longer looking at. Those reports are now suppressed in paginated mode;
resource templates keep theirs, having no paged store. Suppressing rather than
adding per-page salvage: pointing at the wrong entry costs more than staying
quiet, and per-page salvage is a feature, not a display fix.

34ba8256a4 fix: address Copilot review round 3 — typed consts, null admission, preset coverage
Three findings (one inline, two in the suppressed block), all valid.

1. `toConstOptions` still stringified every non-null `const`, so
   `items: { anyOf: [{ const: 1 }, { const: 2 }] }` submitted `["1"]` where
the schema says `[1]`. Same wrong-type-on-the-wire problem that keeps a
numeric `enum` off the select path, so it gets the same answer: only a
string `const` is selectable, anything else falls to the JSON editor
where the value keeps its type.

2. `hasMissingRequiredFields` derived null admission from the *renderer's*
collapse, which is narrower on purpose — it only flattens a two-member
union. So `anyOf: [string, number, null]` renders through the JSON
fallback (where `null` is typeable) yet was still marked missing,
disabling submit on a value the schema accepts. Null admission is a
validity question, not a rendering one, so it is now its own predicate:
   `admitsNull` in core, recognizing `nullable`, `type: "null"`,
   `type: [..., "null"]`, and a null branch anywhere in an `anyOf`/`oneOf`
   of any size.

3. Nothing exercised the `record_shipment` preset — the web and TUI tests
build the `anyOf` shape by hand, which verifies the renderers but
*assumes* the premise the whole fix rests on: that Zod's `.nullish()`
emits `anyOf: [<branch>, { type: "null" }]` with the enum on the branch.
A Zod output change or a registry typo would leave every unit test green
while the documented reproduction server quietly stopped reproducing.
Added an integration test that boots the preset over HTTP, asserts the
wire shape, and runs it back through the collapse — following the
`duplicate-tool-names.test.ts` precedent, which exists for the same
   reason (#1957).

e4e16bb3e6 fix: address Copilot review on the nullable-union collapse
Four findings, all valid:

1. Returning `T` was unsound. The collapse genuinely changes two fields —
   `type` stops being an array, `anyOf` becomes `undefined` — so a caller
whose `T` typed either that way could keep treating it so afterwards.
The result is now `T | NormalizedNullableUnion<T>`, which states exactly
   that: `Omit<T, "type" | "anyOf">` plus a `RenderableType` `type`, a
cleared `anyOf`, and `nullable`. The one assertion left is isolated in a
`collapsed()` helper, needed only because `Omit` stays deferred while `T`
   is open.

2. A typeless `enum` does not imply strings. JSON Schema allows
`enum: [1, 2]`, and inferring `"string"` for it would hand numbers to a
`Select` declared `string[]`, and make the TUI submit `"1"` for `1`. Now
only an all-string enum earns the inference; anything else stays on the
JSON fallback. An explicit `type` is still authoritative.

3. `hasMissingRequiredFields` counted every null as missing, so clearing a
*required* nullable enum — newly possible via the clear button — would
disable submit on a value the schema permits. `required` constrains
presence, not content, so null now counts as present exactly when the
   field's schema admits it.

4. `collectSchemaDefaults` read the raw union, so a default nested inside a
nullable object's branch was displayed by the form but never seeded into
the submitted values. It normalizes each property first, like the
   renderer does.

17a4c78dd3 fix: centralize the nullable-union collapse in core and apply it in the TUI
Closes #2015, folded into #1928 rather than left as a follow-up.

The TUI's `schemaToForm` has the same defect the web `SchemaForm` had: its
local `JsonSchemaProperty` declares only `type?: string` — no `anyOf`, no
array-valued `type` — so a `.nullish()` argument has no top-level `type` or
`enum` for the dispatcher to read and falls to the `switch` default, losing
its select. Milder than the web bug (a plain text field, not a corrupting
JSON textarea), but the same class.

Fixing it in a second place is the argument for not having the logic in a
first place. So the collapse moves to `core/json/nullableUnion.ts` as
`normalizeNullableUnion`, generic over a minimal `NullableUnionSchema`
shape — the least a caller must expose to be *recognized* as a nullable
union — so neither client has to adopt the other's schema type. Both form
builders now share one copy and cannot drift on which schemas they render.

- `core/json/nullableUnion.ts` — the shared collapse, plus tests at
`clients/web/src/test/core/nullableUnion.test.ts` (the web suite is what
  gates `core/`).
- `clients/web`: `schemaUtils.normalizeUnionType` is gone; `SchemaForm` and
`resolveRefsInMessage` call the core function directly.
- `clients/tui`: `schemaToForm` normalizes each property before dispatch,
  and `JsonSchemaProperty` grows the `anyOf` / array-`type` fields the
  encoding uses.

Verified by driving the built TUI under a pty against the
`nullable-fields-http.json` showcase server. Before, every argument of
`record_shipment` rendered as a plain text field; after, `direction` is a
select ("No value"), `quantity` an integer, `express` a boolean
("[Not set]").

937f1dd51b fix: render nullable enum fields as a Select instead of a raw JSON textarea
A tool argument that is optional AND explicitly nullable — Zod's
`.nullish()` / `.nullable().optional()` — compiles to
`anyOf: [{ type: "string", enum: [...] }, { type: "null" }]`. Every branch
of the tool-call form's field dispatcher tests a single `type` string, so
such a field matched nothing and fell through to the raw-JSON fallback,
whose onChange stores the unparseable in-progress text back into state and
re-`JSON.stringify`s it on the next render — compounding a fresh layer of
escaping on every keystroke.

`normalizeUnionType` already existed for the FastMCP `string|null` shape,
but it only copied the surviving branch's `type` and dropped everything
else, so the `enum` never reached the dispatcher; and nothing called it on
a tool input schema — only elicitation requests, via
`resolveRefsInMessage`. So:

- Rewrite `normalizeUnionType` to hoist the non-null branch's own keywords
  (`enum`, `items`, `properties`, `minimum`, …) onto the flattened schema,
as v1.x did. This also collapses nine near-identical blocks into two and
picks up the `object`/`array` cases the `type: [X, "null"]` form was
  missing.
- Normalize each field in `SchemaForm.renderField`, so tool, elicitation,
and app forms all get it rather than just elicitation.
- Give a nullable enum `Select` a clear affordance, so a value can be set
back to `null`; a non-nullable enum keeps none, since it would reject it.

Adds a `record_shipment` preset and `nullable-fields-http.json` showcase
config serving all four nullable scalar shapes, for manual verification.

fix(auth): explicit re-authorize when the OAuth callback state was lost (#1808) (#1810)
* fix(auth): offer explicit re-authorize when callback state is lost (#1808)

A `/oauth/callback` that arrives with no recorded SEP-2352 discovery state
made the SDK throw `AuthorizationServerMismatchError` and the Inspector
dead-ended, surfacing the raw SDK text with no path forward.

The SDK folds two very different failures into that one error class, so
`core/auth/issuerBinding.ts` classifies them structurally: a recoverable
"lost authorization state" (the SDK puts prose, not an issuer URL, in the
`recordedIssuer` slot) versus a genuine cross-AS `issuer_mismatch`. Only
the first gets a recovery affordance.

Web: the callback failure now raises a dedicated banner ("Authorization
state was lost" / "Authorize again") whose action clears the stale OAuth
state for that server and starts a fresh authorization. A genuine
mismatch stays a red, non-dismissible security notification with both
issuers named and no one-click retry.

Node runners (CLI/TUI): the same classification rewrites the callback
rejection into the shared actionable copy instead of the SDK text.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_016S7h83UKNQ7kvSiFDNksCt

* fix(auth): detect the SDK mismatch error via isInstance (#1808)

The callback-leg classifier gated on `err.mcpBrand`, but the SDK declares
that brand in a `static {}` block, so it lives on the constructor and is
never reachable from an instance. The predicate always returned false, so
`findIssuerBindingFailure()` never matched and the #1808 recovery banner
was inert in production — the callback dead-ended exactly as before.

Use the SDK's own `AuthorizationServerMismatchError.isInstance()`, which is
cross-copy safe by construction (it consults a `Symbol.for()`-keyed brand
set), with a `name` fallback for a serialization boundary. Correct the
module doc, which cited cross-bundle safety as the reason to avoid
`instanceof` — the very thing the SDK's branded `hasInstance` provides.

Every fixture now constructs a real `AuthorizationServerMismatchError`
instead of a hand-rolled object with an own `mcpBrand`, which is why a
green `npm run ci` hid this. Adds a test pinning the brand's placement so
the feature cannot silently go inert again.

Review follow-ups: drop the unused `isLostAuthorizationStateError`, remove
the duplicated banner title default, resolve the banner title/action label
where the banner is raised, keep the clear-failure notification open, and
bound remote-supplied issuers in user-facing copy.

refactor(web): sharpen the src/lib vs src/utils rule and move misfiled modules (#1784)
* refactor(web): sharpen src/lib vs src/utils rule and move misfiled modules (#1776)

Codify the empirical rule the web client already followed loosely — utils =
pure functions that compute; lib = things that instantiate, adapt, or touch
the environment — in AGENTS.md and clients/web/README.md, and move the modules
that sat on the wrong side of it.

Moves (source + co-located test):
- lib/sandbox-csp -> utils (pure CSP-string construction; type-only import)
- utils/browserTabVisibility -> lib (registers visibilitychange listeners)
- utils/oauthResume -> lib (reads/writes sessionStorage)
- utils/clearServerOAuthState -> lib (drives live InspectorClient / OAuthStorage)

Borderline audits (kept in place): pendingReauth (pure type declarations),
deepLink / correlateTransportErrors / mcpNetworkHeaders / oauthUx / oauthFlow /
oauthNetworkPhase (pure transforms / type-only core imports) stay in utils;
downloadFile stays whole in lib (dominant side is DOM side effects).

Also relocate the lone src/test/lib/downloadFile.test.ts straggler beside its
source at src/lib/downloadFile.test.ts, and document the test-placement rule
(side-by-side by default; src/test/ only for core/ tests, the integration
project, and shared scaffolding).

Pure move — no behavior change; no build/coverage config keys off the boundary.

* refactor(web): address review — fix stale paths, move customHeaders, one-way arrows (#1776)

Responds to the @claude review on PR #1784:

1. Stale path references (fixed): update the four in-repo pointers left at
   pre-move paths — specification/v2_auth_mid_session.md (oauthResume,
browserTabVisibility → lib/), and the two load-bearing sandbox security
   comments (sandbox_proxy.html, sandbox-controller.ts → src/utils/sandbox-csp).

2. lib/types/customHeaders (moved): it's pure (types + pure transforms), the
   rule's clearest counterexample. Moved lib/types/customHeaders.{ts,test.ts} →
utils/ (no external importers; only its own test) and removed the
undocumented lib/types/ subdir. Documented that utils/ is the home for pure
shared domain types + their constructors — no separate types/ bucket.

3. One-way arrows (item 3): declare OAuthResumeAuthKind in utils/pendingReauth
and re-export it from lib/oauthResume, so the only cross-directory arrow now
points lib → utils. Codified that invariant in AGENTS.md.

Wording nit: AGENTS.md + README now state diagnostic logging
(console.warn/error) doesn't count as a side effect for the utils rule.

* docs: address review round 2 — stale customHeaders refs, rule wording (#1776)

Doc-only follow-up to the round-2 @claude review on PR #1784 (no code changed):

1. Stale paths (same class as round-1 item 1): the customHeaders move left
three references to the deleted lib/types/customHeaders.ts path in
   specification/ (v2_ux_interfaces_phase_0_4_inventory.md,
   v2_ux_interfaces_plan.md ×2) — updated to utils/customHeaders.ts.

2. customHeaders anchor: note in AGENTS.md that its shape is staged for
ServerSettingsForm (per v2_ux_interfaces_plan.md), so its zero-importer
state reads as intentional rather than rot; kept as the no-types/-bucket
illustration and led the anchor list with load-bearing modules.

3. Type-only-import clause: split the conflated clause — a type-only import
   (pendingReauth) and re-exporting core's pure functions/constants
(oauthUx/oauthFlow) are distinct reasons to stay in utils; what makes a
module lib is wrapping core's stateful runtime. Fixed in both AGENTS.md
   and the web README.

Cosmetic: re-padded the v2_auth_mid_session.md table row to column width.

* docs: address review round 3 — scope the "no types/ bucket" claim (#1776)

Doc-only follow-up to the round-3 @claude review on PR #1784 (no code changed):

1. "no separate types/ bucket" overreached: clients/web/src/types/ does exist
   (navigation.ts + react-syntax-highlighter .d.ts ambient stubs wired via
tsconfig.app.json paths). Scoped the claim in both AGENTS.md and the web
README to "no types/ sub-bucket INSIDE lib/utils", and noted src/types/ is
for ambient .d.ts stubs, not domain types.

2. README example list drifted from AGENTS.md's round-2 load-bearing anchors —
realigned it (inspectorTabs/mcpNetworkHeaders, dropped the zero-importer
   customHeaders from the headline list).

3. Clarified v2_ux_interfaces_plan.md:185 so the v2 path reads as the copy's
destination, not as the v1.5 source location.

Follow-up filed as #1785 (board Todo): src/types/navigation.ts InspectorTab is
dead and duplicates utils/inspectorTabs.ts — kept out of this pure-move PR.

* docs: address review round 4 — reconcile src/types/ claim with #1785 (#1776)

Doc-only follow-up to the round-4 @claude review on PR #1784 (no code changed):

The round-3 scope fix overshot: it asserted src/types/ holds "not domain types
at all", but the dead navigation.ts InspectorTab is a plain-.ts domain type
still living there, and specification/v2_ux_interfaces_plan.md:181-182 actively
prescribes placing InspectorTab there — so AGENTS.md and that spec doc gave
opposite guidance about the same directory.

- AGENTS.md + web README: softened to "not the place for new domain types"
and added a parenthetical that the one lingering domain type (dead
navigation.ts) is tracked for removal in #1785; until then a pure domain
type belongs in utils/, not src/types/.
- v2_ux_interfaces_plan.md:181: marked the tab-enum placement guidance as
superseded by #1785 (live type is InspectorTabId in utils/inspectorTabs.ts).

Self-heals on merge of #1785.

* docs: address review round 5 — fix garbled #1785 clause, restructure utils rule (#1776)

Doc-only follow-up to the round-5 @claude review on PR #1784 (no code changed):

1. Grammar (item 1): the round-4 #1785 clause read "superseding [#1785] will
remove it" — a participle with no subject. Reworded to "the dead
navigation.ts InspectorTab, which #1785 will remove".

2. Readability (item 2): the src/utils/ bullet had accreted into a single
~1,400-char blob across five review rounds. Promoted the carve-outs to
scannable sub-bullets (Domain types / Diagnostic logging / Importing from
core) and lifted the src/types/ note out to its own line, since it's a
statement about a sibling directory, not about utils.

AGENTS.md only; the README's parallel sentence was already clean.

* docs+config: address review round 6 — correct the coverage-glob claim (#1776)

Responds to the round-6 @claude review on PR #1784:

1. "no build/coverage glob" was factually wrong (should-fix): the web coverage
include in clients/web/vite.config.ts DOES enumerate src/lib/** and
src/utils/**. The conclusion (a move between them is coverage-neutral)
survives, but the reason was wrong. Reworded both AGENTS.md and the web
README to say nothing *enforces* the boundary — no path alias, and the
include lists both dirs so a move is coverage-neutral — plus the important
whitelist caveat: a module outside components/lib/utils/server falls out of
   the ≥90 gate entirely.

2. Removed a pre-existing duplicate glob in vite.config.ts (src/lib/**/*.{ts,tsx}
appeared twice, lines 161 and 163). Inert (vitest de-dupes) but it sat three
lines from the config the doc now describes.

Nits: gave the README bullet the same round-5 sub-bullet restructure as
AGENTS.md, and made its #1785 reference a real markdown link (bare #N doesn't
autolink in rendered repo markdown).

npm run ci green (config change re-verified through coverage + smokes + Storybook).

* Network: modern Mcp-* headers, new error codes, cancellation-as-abort (#1628)

Upgrade the Network tab for the modern Streamable HTTP transport
(SEP-2243 / SEP-2575):

- Recognise and highlight the mirrored headers (Mcp-Method, Mcp-Name,
  Mcp-Param-*, MCP-Protocol-Version), decode =?base64?…?= sentinel values
inline, and cross-check each against the request body so a HeaderMismatch
is visible before the server rejects it.
- Show the new spec error codes distinctly: -32020 HeaderMismatch,
  -32021 MissingRequiredClientCapability, -32022 UnsupportedProtocolVersion
(with the server-advertised `supported` versions), and modern -32601
MethodNotFound on HTTP 404 (distinguished from a legacy bare 404 by its
  JSON-RPC body).
- Reflect cancellation as a connection abort ("Cancelled") rather than a
  hard error, per SEP §7.5.
- Confirm and document browser-path header mirroring: the SDK builds the
Mcp-* headers client-side and the /api/fetch proxy forwards them verbatim
  (new integration test).

New pure util `mcpNetworkHeaders.ts` holds the recognition/decode/classify
logic; new `McpErrorBadge` element renders the distinct error chips. The
optional raw-request controls (cacheMode bypass/refresh, single-page fetch)
are split to #1721 — they are cross-cutting core + feature-tab work beyond
the Network tab.

Also refreshes the AGENTS.md board Status option-ID table (the Building /
MCP Apps Extension columns were removed).

Closes #1628

* Network smoke-test showcase + fix redaction clobbering JSON-RPC error codes

Adds a composable "modern-network" showcase server for exercising the #1628
Network-tab work end-to-end, and fixes a real bug the smoke test surfaced.

Bug fix (core): the fetch-tracking body redaction masked ANY field named
`code` (targeting the OAuth authorization code), including the numeric
JSON-RPC `error.code`. That destroyed the field the Network tab classifies
the modern spec errors on, so -32020/-32021/-32022/-32601 never rendered
against real traffic. Redaction now only masks STRING values of a sensitive
field (secrets are always strings; a numeric code is never one).

Test-server showcase (test-servers): `modern-network-http.json` serves a
`get_weather` tool with an `x-mcp-header: "City"` annotation plus four
`trigger_*` tools. A new `transport.modern.injectSpecErrors` flag installs a
middleware on the modern leg that answers the triggers with real HTTP status
+ JSON-RPC error bodies (400/-32020, 400/-32021, 400/-32022 w/ `supported`,
404/-32601), so the Inspector's error rendering can be driven live.

Mirroring finding (verified live, comment corrected in createRemoteFetch.ts):
the SDK builds the STANDARD mirrored headers (Mcp-Method / Mcp-Name /
MCP-Protocol-Version) unconditionally — they reach the server through the
web proxy — but gates `Mcp-Param-*` on a non-browser environment
(`detectProbeEnvironment() !== "browser"`), so the web client never emits
them. An x-mcp-header tool is therefore uncallable from the web client
against a strict modern server (it answers -32020); it works from the Node
CLI/TUI. The earlier "mirroring works through the proxy" note was corrected.

* Network: move the spec-error badge off the crowded compact top row

In the narrow monitoring sidebar (embedded layout) the McpErrorBadge shared
the top row with the timestamp/method/category/duration/status chips, which
truncated the method and category ("PO…", "TRANSP…") and clipped the error
name. Render the badge separately from `metaBadges` and place it on the
second row, to the right of the URL, so the top row stays readable and the
error name shows in full. The full-width layout keeps it in the top-right
cluster (where there's room).

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5

* Network: keep the spec error name's casing in McpErrorBadge (no uppercase)

The four spec/SDK error identifiers are PascalCase (`HeaderMismatch`,
`MissingRequiredClientCapability`, `UnsupportedProtocolVersion`,
`MethodNotFound`). Mantine's Badge uppercases label text by default, which
flattened them to a hard-to-read run-together string
("UNSUPPORTEDPROTOCOLVERSION"). Set `tt="none"` so the badge shows the
spec's own casing with word boundaries intact; short badges (POST, status)
keep the default uppercase.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5

* Network: in the full-width layout, move the spec-error badge to the second row

The full-width entry kept the McpErrorBadge in the top-right cluster, where a
long spec name (e.g. "MissingRequiredClientCapability") crowded the top row
and truncated the method chips and URL. Move it to the start of the second
row (the expand-toggle row) so the top row stays readable; the toggle stays
at the end (`space-between` only when the badge is present). The compact
sidebar already places it on its second row beside the URL.

* Protocol: show Replay as the right-side icon in the wide layout too

The compact (sidebar) ProtocolEntry already renders Replay as an icon next to
the pin/expand icons; the wide layout used a left-aligned "Replay" text
button instead. Make the wide layout match — Replay as the ReplayButton icon
at the start of the right-side action cluster (Replay, Pin, Expand) — so the
two layouts are consistent. Drops the now-unused SubtleButton constant.

* Move the modern spec-error chip + alert from the Network tab to the Protocol tab

The Network tab is focused on the HTTP transaction; the distinct protocol-error
taxonomy (-32020/-32021/-32022/-32601) belongs with the protocol messages. So:

- ProtocolEntry now renders the McpErrorBadge chip on the top line (right after
the direction badge, both layouts) plus an explanatory alert in the expanded
detail, classified by JSON-RPC error code via `classifyProtocolSpecError`.
- NetworkEntry drops the chip + alert; it keeps the HTTP-level features (status
badge, Mcp-* header highlight/sentinel-decode, header/body mismatch marker,
  cancellation-as-abort).
- The SDK delivers -32020/21/22 (HTTP 400) as JSON-RPC error responses, so they
reach the Protocol log directly. -32601 (HTTP 404) and other non-enveloped
errors are *thrown* — the request stays pending. `enrichProtocolEntries`
(App) correlates the Protocol log to the Network log by JSON-RPC id (parsed
from the transport fetch's requestBody) and folds the thrown error onto its
pending request, so it too appears in Protocol. This is a derived view; the
  underlying log is not mutated.

Verified live against the modern-network showcase: both a -32020 error response
and a thrown -32601 render distinctly in the Protocol tab.

Follow-up: a "reveal in Network" link on the Protocol alert (cross-tab
scroll-to + expand of the correlated HTTP entry).

* Protocol: show the spec-error chip only in the wide layout, after the method

Refine the placement of the spec-error chip added in the previous commit:
- Wide layout: move it from after the direction badge to right after the
method chip (reads as "tools/call -32020 HeaderMismatch").
- Compact sidebar row: drop the chip entirely — the two-line row stays
uncluttered and relies on its ERROR status badge. The explanatory alert
still appears in the expanded detail in both layouts.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5

* Protocol: "reveal in Network" link — jump from a spec error to its HTTP entry

Adds the cross-tab navigation that was the follow-up to relocating the
spec-error rendering. The expanded Protocol alert now shows a "View the HTTP
request in the Network tab" link when the entry has a correlated Network
request; clicking it:

- correlates the Protocol message to its transport fetch by JSON-RPC id
(`revealableMessageIds` gates the link; `correlateFetchEntry` finds the
  target on click),
- clears whatever filter would hide the target (network filterText +
  category, and the embedded monitorSearch),
- switches to the Network view in whichever mode is active — the pinned
column (`pinMonitor`) when the sidebar is open, or the full-screen header
  tab (`onActiveTabChange`) when it's closed,
- scrolls the matching NetworkEntry into view and force-expands it.

The reveal is a one-shot: a new `revealId` threads NetworkScreen →
NetworkStreamPanel → NetworkEntry, where the targeted entry scrolls itself
into view (rAF, after `useScrollMemory`'s restore) + expands, then clears the
signal via `onRevealComplete`. Verified live in both the pinned-sidebar and
closed/full-screen layouts.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5

* Protocol: only show the "reveal in Network" link when it adds value

Gate the link on a new `httpRelevant` flag: show it only when the error is
either thrown by the SDK (its real HTTP response lives only in the Network
log — the Protocol entry is a synthetic fold) OR tied to the HTTP request
headers. A delivered, protocol-only error gets no link, since the raw HTTP
entry adds nothing over the alert.

- -32020 HeaderMismatch → link (the mirrored headers are the problem)
- -32601 MethodNotFound → link (thrown; the 404 response is only in Network)
- -32021 MissingRequiredClientCapability → no link (delivered, protocol-only)
- -32022 UnsupportedProtocolVersion → no link (supported list is in the alert)

* Network: cite SEP-2575 for cancellation-as-abort, not the internal doc's §7.5

The cancellation note referenced "(SEP §7.5)", but §7.5 is a section of the
internal v2_new_spec_impact.md doc, not a SEP. The behavior — closing the
Streamable HTTP request stream is the cancellation signal; notifications/cancelled
is stdio-only — is defined in SEP-2575 (stateless-mcp). Cite SEP-2575 in the
user-facing alert and the two related comments.

* Network: fix reveal one-shot canceling its own scroll; review doc/comment nits

Address @claude review of #1722:
- Reveal one-shot: move onRevealComplete() inside the rAF (after scrollIntoView)
so clearing revealId (which flips revealed->false and runs the effect cleanup)
can no longer race/cancel the pending scroll. Add a flip-back test.
- Comment the intentional double-mount of revealId (pinned monitor + full-screen
ScreenStage both match; clear is idempotent).
- Doc drift after the Network->Protocol relocation: McpErrorBadge + the
mcpNetworkHeaders module header now say the spec-error chip lives in Protocol.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5

* Network: clarify redaction array-of-scalars edge + revealableIds superset

Address second @claude review of #1722 (both non-blocking polish notes):
- fetchTracking redaction: note that masking assumes a sensitive value is a
scalar or object; an array-of-scalars under a sensitive key would slip through
(no OAuth/token payload has that shape).
- revealableMessageIds: document it's a superset of the linked entries; the
spec-error/httpRelevant narrowing is applied downstream at render.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5

* Protocol: gate modern -32601 framing to a genuine 404, not in-band 200

Address third @claude review of #1722. classifyProtocolSpecError recognised
-32601 from the code alone, so an ordinary in-band 'method not found' returned
on HTTP 200 was dressed up as the modern MethodNotFound taxonomy: the spec
badge, a 404-asserting alert, and a 'reveal in Network' link that jumped to a
plain 200 (claiming diagnostic value that wasn't there).

Gate the modern -32601 treatment on the correlated fetch actually being a 404
(mirroring classifyMcpSpecError). -32020/-32021/-32022 are SEP-reserved and
unaffected. The correlated HTTP status is threaded from InspectorView (new
correlatedFetchStatusById) through ProtocolScreen/ProtocolListPanel to
ProtocolEntry; when unknown, -32601 falls back to code-only recognition (the
thrown-404 path always carries a 404). Badge, alert copy, and link now resolve
together, so a plain in-band -32601 falls through to ordinary error rendering.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5

* Protocol: require a genuine 404 for modern -32601 (drop unknown-status fallback)

Address fourth @claude review of #1722. The prior fix only rejected -32601 when
the status was *known* and not 404; an unknown status fell back to code-only
recognition. But the thrown-404 path always carries a 404 (folded in from a 404
fetch), so the unknown-status branch is only ever reached by an ordinary in-band
-32601 with no correlated 404 — most notably a stdio connection (no HTTP at all)
— which then wrongly got the modern MethodNotFound badge and 404-asserting copy.

Drop the escape hatch: -32601 is the modern taxonomy only on httpStatus === 404.
Nothing intended is lost (the genuine case always has its 404). Update the tests
(code-only/undefined -32601 now expects null; add a stdio no-correlated-fetch
ProtocolEntry case) and mark the MethodNotFound story with correlatedHttpStatus
404.

OAuth: re-key store to (server, issuer) + SEP-837/2350/2352 auth UX (#1694)

* OAuth: re-key store to (server, issuer) + SEP-837/2350/2352 auth UX (#1625)

Re-key the persisted OAuth store to (server, issuer) and add the
SEP-837/2350/2352 authorization-hardening UX. The SDK v2 auth() drives the
SEP-2352 flow off the provider's ctx.issuer; the Inspector's job is to honor it
and round-trip the issuer stamp.

SEP-2352 — issuer-bound credentials
- ServerOAuthState nests issuer-bound credentials under
  byIssuer[issuer] = { clientInformation, clientRegistrationKind, tokens }, with
an activeIssuer pointer answering the transport's ctx-less per-request bearer
  read.
- Fix a latent bug: OAuthStorageBase re-parsed tokens/client-info through
  OAuthTokensSchema/OAuthClientInformationSchema, which strip the non-RFC
`issuer` field and silently defeat the SDK's discardIfIssuerMismatch. The
store re-attaches the stamp from the byIssuer key.
- BaseOAuthClientProvider threads ctx.issuer and implements
  discoveryState()/saveDiscoveryState() (activates the SDK's callback-leg
  AuthorizationServerMismatchError binding check) and invalidateCredentials().
- Lazy, migration-free upgrade: a legacy pre-1625 blob's top-level
clientInformation/tokens are returned as an unkeyed fallback until the first
issuer-stamped save promotes them into byIssuer.

SEP-837 — application_type
- DCR declares application_type: "native" (localhost Inspector).
- ClientSettingsForm renders RegistrationRejectedError detail and reflects DCR's
  deprecated-in-favor-of-CIMD (SEP-991) status.

SEP-2350 — step-up scope union
- Per-server onInsufficientScope (reauthorize | throw) setting wired
  ServerSettingsForm -> StoredMCPServer.oauth -> StreamableHTTPClientTransport.
- StepUpAuthModal visualizes the prior-union-challenged scope set, tagging each
  scope `new` vs `already granted`.

mcpAuth simplification
- Delete the hand-rolled authorizeWithoutRefresh (mishandled issuer stamping);
forward forceReauthorization/skipIssuerMetadataValidation to native SDK auth()
so both the initial and step-up paths get SEP-2352 stamping.

Vocabulary + docs
- OAuthStep gains cimd_fetch / issuer_comparison / scope_step_up (recorded on a
step-up redirect); the Network tab labels auth requests by OAuth phase.
- v2_auth_hardening.md gains an as-built status section.

Deferred to the era-aware card: the SdkError(EraNegotiationFailed) ->
UnauthorizedError unwrap and finishAuth(URLSearchParams) form (only fire under
non-legacy negotiation).

Closes #1625

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

* Address @claude review: issuer-stamp source gating + clear/activeIssuer + phase over-match

- SEP-2352: stamp the issuer only when the credential actually came from the
byIssuer slot (`fromSlot`), not merely when a slot exists. A partially-populated
slot alongside a surviving legacy field would otherwise stamp a legacy (possibly
cross-AS) credential with the current issuer, defeating discardIfIssuerMismatch.
- Issuer-scoped clears no longer promote the cleared issuer to `activeIssuer`
(updateIssuerSlot gains a `setActive` flag; save paths keep the promotion).
- oauthNetworkPhase matches register/token/authorize as the final path segment
(trailing slash tolerated) so `/token/refresh` or `/api/register/foo` no longer
  over-match.
- Tests for all three.

19a6df7ad3 SDK v2 migration (behavior-neutral, versionNegotiation: 'legacy') (#1624)
Migrate all three clients + core + test-servers from
@modelcontextprotocol/sdk@1.29 to SDK v2 (2.0.0-beta.4), keeping behavior
identical against legacy (2025-11-25) servers. Foundation for the SDK V2 +
New Spec stack.

Packages
- Split @modelcontextprotocol/sdk -> @modelcontextprotocol/client (Client,
  transports, OAuth, error taxonomy, protocol types) + core (Zod schemas);
  stdio -> client/stdio, Ajv -> client/validators/ajv. Test-servers ->
  @modelcontextprotocol/server (+ server-legacy/sse). Deterministic import
rewrite (schemas -> core, everything else -> client); the codemod misroutes
client code to /server so it was not used for path routing.
- new Client(..., { versionNegotiation: { mode: 'legacy' } }) — nothing
  2026-era goes on the wire.

Runtime (core/mcp/inspectorClient.ts)
- Error taxonomy: McpError -> ProtocolError, ErrorCode -> ProtocolErrorCode;
  RequestTimeout -> SdkError/SdkErrorCode.
- Handlers take method strings; task methods (tasks/*, notifications/tasks/*)
use the 3-arg custom form (excluded from v2's spec-method set).
- Legacy tasks kept working (per project requirement): requestor tasks re-
  implemented over raw client.request + explicit deprecated schemas;
experimental.tasks.callToolStream replaced by a local pollTaskToolCall
async generator (with _progressHandlers revival so task-execution progress
still reaches the caller). Receiver (server-initiated) tasks: the v2 Client
  validates a sampling/elicit handler result and rejects the legacy { task }
response with -32602 — installReceiverTaskResponseBypass swaps the wrapped
entry in the private _requestHandlers map for the task-augmented branch so
  { task } reaches the wire (fixes server-initiated sampling-via-task).
- Pagination: list verbs use raw client.request({method}, List*ResultSchema)
  for single-page behavior (v2's client.listX() auto-aggregate all pages).

Web / auth / apps
- Rename local JsonSchemaType -> InspectorFormSchema + add toFormSchema()
structural narrowing at the SDK-schema -> form boundary.
- ext-apps still peers on SDK v1: one compat boundary with documented casts
  (remove when ext-apps#702 lands a v2 peer).
- OAuth provider saveClientInformation reconciled with v2's
  OAuthClientInformationContext; InvalidClientMetadataError re-homed as a
local class (server-legacy/auth is not browser-safe).
- vitest.shared.mts dedupes @modelcontextprotocol/client+core to one copy so
  vi.mock intercepts the SUT's import.

Accepted v2 behavior changes (per #1624 / spec §9.2): unknown-tool call
rejects with -32602; cancellation is stream-abort (no guaranteed
notifications/cancelled frame); output-schema strictness restored via the
Inspector's own Ajv check on the default path.

npm run ci green: validate (web 3087 / cli 212 / tui 274 / launcher 5),
coverage (>=90 per-file, all clients), smoke (launcher/cli/web), storybook
(410).

0e93b13426 web: deep-link auto-connect + machine-readable connection status (#1576)
Closes #1576

Adds `?serverUrl=<url>&transport=http|sse&autoConnect=<token>` URL-driven
auto-connect so a driver can reach a connected inspector with one navigate.

- `clients/web/src/utils/deepLink.ts`: `parseDeepLink()` (http(s)-only
serverUrl; `autoConnect` CSRF-gated on the per-launch API token),
  `deepLinkParseStatus()`, `deepLinkConfigEquals()`, `DEEP_LINK_SERVER_ID`
(stable `deep-link` row so reloads reconnect to the same catalog row).
- App.tsx: ensure/connect effects (two-phase upsert-then-connect against the
hydrated list), `serversRef` read in `onToggleConnection`,
  `connectErrorMessage` / `recordConnectError` recording connection-level
  failures.
- InspectorView header: `data-testid="connection-status"` with `data-status`,
  `data-error-message`, `data-deeplink` so drivers can `waitForSelector` and
read failure reasons without scraping toasts.
- Docs: deep-link scheme + `data-*` contract in clients/web/README.md.

Re-implemented informed by PR #1510 (33fac3f); adapted to the post-#1417
lifted-tab architecture and dropping the non-existent `normalizeServerUrl`
import in favor of `URL.href` canonicalization. Coverage gate green
(deepLink.ts 97.8/95.1/100/97.4).

Part of the #1579 decomposition (Wave 4).

ace4250d31 refactor(web): rename "History" tab/feature to "Protocol" (#1623)
Rename the web client's History tab and its supporting code to Protocol
so the feature reads as the MCP "Protocol" view.

- Tab renders as "Protocol"; INSPECTOR_TAB_IDS, InspectorView tab
constants/MonitorTab, TAB_UI_REGISTRY key, and navigation.ts tab id all
  updated to Protocol.
- Rename components + folders: HistoryScreen -> ProtocolScreen,
HistoryListPanel -> ProtocolListPanel, HistoryEntry -> ProtocolEntry,
HistoryControls -> ProtocolControls, historyUtils -> protocolUtils
(plus their tests and stories, and exported types).
- Rename App/InspectorView plumbing: historyUi, pinnedHistoryIds,
  on*History* handlers/props, replayHistoryRequest,
isReplayableHistoryMethod, sort/compact scopes, etc. -> Protocol names.
- Export filenames use the "protocol" slug (buildExportFilename +
  ExportKind).

Preserved (per issue #1623 decisions):
- The in-panel section discriminator keeps its "pinned" | "history"
values, and the sub-sections stay labeled Pinned / History.
- window.history and core message-log/replay concepts are untouched.

npm run ci passes (format, lint, build, unit tests, >=90 per-file
coverage gate, smoke, Storybook).

f4b6095719 test: close ≥90% per-file coverage gaps for mid-session auth
The mid-session auth work passed `validate`/CI but failed the local-only
`npm run test:coverage` per-file gate (≥90% lines/statements/functions/

file clears the gate; annotate provably-dead defensive branches with justified

- core/mcp: oauthManager, inspectorClient, node/authChallengeFetch,

Guided-auth removal, OAuth smoke testing, and TUI/CLI support (#1531)
* refactor(web): update OAuth E2E tests to use new authentication method

- Replaced `runGuidedAuth` with `authenticate` in the InspectorClient OAuth end-to-end tests to support quick authentication with CIMD pre-registration.
- Updated comments to reflect the change in authentication method and its support for HTTP test metadata URLs.
- Ensured that the tests continue to validate the expected authorization URL after the change.

Additionally, imported `ensureCimdClientRegistration` in the OAuthManager to streamline client registration during the authentication process.

* Guided-auth removal, OAuth smoke testing, and TUI/CLI support

* Added CLI OAuth runner flags tests

* Added clarifying comment on port 0 binding

* README notes on TUI oauth callback port, prettier fixes for CLI tests

* CIMD validation uses inline like EMA IdP

* Fixed TUI test failures from merge

* test: bring 5 OAuth files over the 90 per-file coverage gate

The guided-auth-removal work added/touched several files that fell below
the repo's >=90 per-file coverage gate (npm run coverage). CI doesn't run
the gate (it's local-only), so validate + test:integration passed while
these gaps slipped through. Bring them all back over the line:

- core/auth/node/runner-oauth-callback.ts: test bad-URL/non-http-scheme
throws, no-port->80 default, and IPv6 hostname bracketing. Annotate the
  provably-dead guards (empty host, out-of-range port, String(err)
fallback, pathname "/" fallback) -- all rejected by new URL() upstream --
with justified v8 ignore comments instead of lowering the gate.
- core/auth/cimd.ts: test the AS-doesn't-support-CIMD early return.
- core/react/useClientSettingsDraft.ts: test the functional-updater path,
the stale-onChange-after-close prev===null guard, and the
  timer-fires-after-close value===null guard.
- ClientSettingsForm.tsx: test the CIMD checkbox toggle and CIMD URL clear.
- clients/tui/src/utils/oauthDisplay.ts: test static/dcr registration
kinds, the expired IdP session, and the configured-scope/empty-scope
  branches of formatScopes.

npm run coverage now passes (exit 0) across web, cli, tui, launcher.

feat(web): render pending sampling/elicitation requests (#1407) (#1411)
* feat(web): render pending sampling/elicitation requests (#1407)

Server-initiated sampling and elicitation requests never reached the v2
web UI: the InspectorClient queued them and returned a Promise that only
resolved on a user response, but nothing subscribed to the pending-change
events or rendered the (already-built) request components. A tool that
triggered one spun the Execute button forever.

Wire the queues to the UI:
- Add usePendingClientRequests() (core/react) subscribing to
pendingSamplesChange / pendingElicitationsChange and returning the live
arrays. Expose getPendingSamples() / getPendingElicitations() on
InspectorClientProtocol (and the test fake) so hooks can read them.
- Add PendingClientRequestModal, an App-level modal that surfaces one
queued request at a time (sampling-first) via the existing
SamplingRequestPanel / ElicitationFormPanel / ElicitationUrlPanel. It is
non-dismissable so the blocked call only resolves via an explicit action.
- Wire it in App.tsx: responding/rejecting resolves the client's handler
Promise, which unblocks the originating call and clears the spinner.

Also fold in two issues surfaced while verifying:
- SchemaForm rendered an `array` + `items.enum` (multi-select enum) as a
JSON textarea because only `items.anyOf` had a branch; add a MultiSelect
  branch with enumNames label support.
- ToolsScreen's result lives in App and outlived the screen's local
selection (reset on tab-switch unmount), leaving a result with no
selected tool. Clear the result on unmount for a clean slate on return.
Prompts/Resources gate their preview on selection, so they are unaffected.

* fix(elicitation): support explicit decline; honest queue label; review polish

Address @claude review on #1411:
- Add an explicit "Decline" action to ElicitationFormPanel so the spec's
decline (refusal) is distinguishable from cancel (dismissal); the JSDoc
claimed accept/decline/cancel but only accept/cancel were wired. Wire the
modal body to emit { action: "decline" }.
- Replace the misleading "1 of N" queue label (the leading 1 never changed
since the modal always shows the head) with an "N pending" hint, hidden when
  nothing else is queued.
- Make the dead useMemo honest: derive the head request inside the memo from
the source arrays so it actually caches (the inline activeElicitation had a
  fresh identity every render).
- Document the URL elicitation accept-on-open semantic with a comment pointing
  at the follow-up (#1415).
- Add an App-level round-trip test driving pendingSamplesChange end-to-end
(modal opens, respond() fires, empty event closes it).

Follow-ups filed: #1415 (URL two-step completion flow), #1416 (form required-
field submit gate + double-submit guard).

* fix(elicitation): include untouched schema defaults in submitted content

The schema form displays a field's default via resolveValue(), but onChange
only writes a field into `values` once the user edits it. So an elicitation
submitted with default-only fields left untouched dropped them entirely —
v2 sent just the manually-edited fields while v1 sent defaults too (reported
with the everything server: firstLine/integer/number/enum defaults missing).

Add collectSchemaDefaults() to jsonUtils (recurses nested objects, omits
fields with no default) and seed ElicitationFormModalBody's values state with
it via a lazy initializer. The modal body is keyed by request id, so it
re-seeds per request; user edits still override seeded defaults via the
existing onChange merge.

Tests: collectSchemaDefaults unit tests (field types, nested, empty) in
jsonUtils.test; a modal test asserting an untouched-default form still submits
its defaults in content.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix(forms): seed schema defaults for tool-call and app-launch forms too

Extend the elicitation defaults fix (collectSchemaDefaults) to the other two
SchemaForm consumers that own form state and submit it: ToolsScreen (tool
execute args) and AppsScreen (app launch args). Both reset formValues to {} on
selection, so default-only fields the user never edited were dropped from the
submitted args — same root cause as the elicitation modal.

Seed formValues from the selected tool/app inputSchema defaults on select.
User edits still override via the existing onFormChange merge.

(InlineElicitationRequest has no consumers wired up, so it's left as-is.)

Tests: ToolsScreen sends a tool's default on Execute without editing;
AppsScreen sends an app's default on Open App without editing.

* feat(elicitation): gate form submit on required fields; guard double-submit (#1416)

Fold the #1416 hardening into this PR:

- Gate the elicitation form's Submit button on required fields. Promote the
hasMissingRequiredFields helper out of AppDetailPanel into jsonUtils (shared)
and use it in ElicitationFormPanel so Submit is disabled until every required
  field has a value.
- Guard against double-submit. Add an optional `busy` prop to the sampling,
elicitation-form, and elicitation-url panels that disables their responding
  actions. PendingClientRequestModal's bodies use a new ref-guarded
useRespondOnce() hook: the first action dispatches and locks the panel; later
clicks no-op. This stops a fast double-click from calling respond()/reject()
twice (which throws and produced an unhandled rejection). Copy URL stays
enabled — it doesn't resolve the request.

Tests: hasMissingRequiredFields unit tests; ElicitationFormPanel submit-gate
and busy-lock tests; a modal double-click-resolves-once test.

* fix(tools): cap detail/result panels at viewport and scroll internally

The Tools screen's detail and result columns sized to their content and bled
past the bottom of the viewport on long output (e.g. the env dump or a long
elicitation result). Cap each column at the screen's available height and let
its panel scroll internally instead.

- ToolsScreen: drop `align: flex-start` and wrap each column in a stretched
  `ContentPane` (Flex column, capped by `mah` = viewport − header − xl*2). The
pane's definite height is what lets the card's inner ScrollArea know how far
to shrink — a bare `mah` on the card does not (the card sizes to content, so
the scroll region renders full-height and overflow:hidden just clips it,
unreachable). Mirrors the proven Prompts/Resources preview panes.
- ToolResultPanel: pinned header + inner ScrollArea (flex 0 1 auto, mih 0).
- ToolDetailPanel: pinned title/annotations header, scrolling body
(description + form + progress), pinned Execute footer.

Audited the other screens: Prompts/Resources already use this pattern,
ServerList and the four list panels (Logging/Network/History/Tasks) already cap
via ScrollArea.Autosize. Only AppsScreen's app-input form had the same gap —
fixed it the same way: AppDetailPanel now scrolls internally and the card uses
variant="preview" so the running app's iframe and a long form both stay within
the viewport.

Verified in-browser against the everything server: the get-env result now
stops at the viewport bottom with margin and scrolls within the card
(clientHeight 502 vs scrollHeight 1931), header pinned.

* test(remote): use sync pino destinations in logging tests to fix teardown race

CI flaked with an uncaught `ENOENT: ... /tmp/inspector-log-unknown-level-*/app.log`
that failed an unrelated later test. The remote-logging integration tests create
`pino.destination(logFile)` loggers (async sonic-boom streams) and rmSync the temp
dir in finally/afterEach without closing the stream — a buffered background flush
then fires after the dir is gone and throws an uncaught error, which Vitest counts
as a run failure even though all tests pass.

Make those destinations `sync: true` so the write lands during the request instead
of on a later flush, removing the race. Test-only; unrelated to this PR's feature
work but it was blocking the PR's CI.

feat(network): show auth response bodies with masked secrets + reveal toggle (#1386) (#1387)
* feat(auth): inject MCP_INSPECTOR_API_TOKEN into served index.html (#1378)

Reloading the web client at the bare URL (no `?MCP_INSPECTOR_API_TOKEN=…`
query string) with empty sessionStorage made every `/api/*` request 401 —
the browser had no way to recover the backend's auth token.

Embed the token into `index.html` on every page load so the browser no
longer depends on the query string surviving navigation:

- New shared helper `clients/web/server/inject-auth-token.ts` embeds
  `<script>window.__INSPECTOR_API_TOKEN__ = "…"</script>` (escaped against
`</script>` injection; no-op when auth is dangerously omitted).
- Dev: the Vite plugin injects via `transformIndexHtml`.
- Prod: the Hono server injects on the `/` route.
- `App.tsx` `getAuthToken()` now reads the injected global first, then the
query string, then sessionStorage (both fallbacks preserved).
- Shared global name lives in `INSPECTOR_API_TOKEN_GLOBAL`
  (`core/mcp/remote/constants.ts`).

Tests: helper unit coverage + an integration test exercising the real
prod server's `/` → `/api/*` flow (injected token authenticates; missing
token 401s). AGENTS.md documents the token-recovery order.

* feat(auth): wire OAuth authorization-code flow into App.tsx (#1379)

OAuth-protected MCP servers could not be connected to from the v2 web
client: the core OAuth pipeline exists, but App.tsx never invoked it, so a
connect attempt 401'd and surfaced "Remote send failed (401): … Missing
Authorization header" as a toast.

Wire the two missing entry points (all core primitives already in place):

- Auto-trigger on 401: in onToggleConnection's catch, detect an upstream
401 (isUnauthorizedError) and call client.authenticate(), which runs
discovery + DCR (backend-proxied) and redirects the page to the auth
server via BrowserNavigation. The initiating server id is persisted to
sessionStorage first, since the OAuth `state` carries only mode+authId
and the full-page redirect wipes React state.
- /oauth/callback handler: a mount effect that, once `servers` hydrate,
parses the callback params, recovers the pending server, rebuilds its
InspectorClient, runs completeOAuthFlow(code) (PKCE verifier + DCR client
info survive in BrowserOAuthStorage), replaceState("/") so a reload can't
replay the single-use code, then connect(). An `error=` callback toasts
  instead of retrying.

connect() already attaches the OAuth provider to the transport
(inspectorClient.ts), so once tokens land in BrowserOAuthStorage the
outbound request carries the bearer token.

Extracted the pure pieces (constants + isUnauthorizedError) to
src/utils/oauthFlow.ts with unit tests. Verified end-to-end in a real
browser against the MCP SDK demo OAuth server: Connect -> redirect ->
auto-approve -> callback -> Connected, with the access token shown in the
Connection Info modal (#1377).

* fix(auth): persist OAuth pre-redirect Network log across the redirect (#1384)

After #1379, the Network tab showed only the post-redirect auth HTTP
(discovery re-run + POST /token); the pre-redirect discovery and the DCR
POST /register that run during authenticate() were lost when the page
navigated to the auth server.

Root causes:

1. Ordering — BrowserNavigation set `window.location.href` before the
client's `saveSession` event fired (OAuthManager calls onBeforeOAuthRedirect
*after* auth() already navigated), so the save raced the unload and was
dropped. Fix: BrowserNavigation now runs a synchronous `beforeNavigate`
hook immediately before assigning location.href; App wires it through
createWebEnvironment to flush the active fetch log to RemoteInspectorClient
Storage (keyed by the authId parsed from the auth URL) via a keepalive POST
   that outlives the unload.

2. Illegal invocation — RemoteInspectorClientStorage defaulted to
   `this.fetchFn = globalThis.fetch` and called `this.fetchFn(...)`, which
re-binds `this` and makes native fetch throw "Illegal invocation"
(swallowed by the catch). This silently broke *all* session save/load.
Fix: default to a wrapper that preserves the global receiver.

3. Restore race — hydrateFetchRequests replaced the list, so a load that
resolved after the resuming connect appended live entries would clobber
them. Fix: merge restored (older) entries ahead of live ones, dedupe by id.

saveSession also now uses keepalive: true.

Verified end-to-end against the MCP SDK demo OAuth server: the connected
page's Network tab shows the full handshake — pre-redirect discovery + DCR
/register plus post-redirect discovery + /token as `auth`, alongside
`transport`. Added unit tests for the beforeNavigate ordering and the
hydrate merge/dedupe.

* feat(network): show auth response bodies with masked secrets + reveal toggle (#1386)

Auth-category Network entries showed request body/headers/status but never
the response body (rendered "(empty)"), because buildEffectiveAuthFetch
deliberately skipped capturing it to avoid surfacing access_token /
refresh_token. That hid the most useful thing to inspect when debugging
OAuth — the token exchange.

Capture auth response bodies, but mask sensitive OAuth fields by default
behind a click-to-reveal toggle so they aren't exposed at a glance during
a screen-share:

- inspectorClient: wire updateResponseBody on the auth fetcher.
- src/utils/maskSecrets.ts: maskSecretsInBody() masks access_token,
  refresh_token, id_token, client_secret (case-insensitive, nested) in JSON
bodies; reports whether anything was masked. Non-JSON / secret-free bodies
  pass through untouched.
- NetworkEntry BodyPreview: when a body has masked fields, render it masked
with a Reveal/Hide toggle (copy honors the shown view). Masking is a UI
concern; the raw entry is unchanged so reveal shows the real value.

access_token / refresh_token live in the post-redirect /token response,
which is never written to the session-restore files (#1384); only
pre-redirect bodies (public discovery, DCR /register) persist, so no bearer
token hits disk.

Verified end-to-end: the /token response shows masked by default
(access_token: "••••••••"), Reveal exposes the raw value, and discovery /
the public DCR /register response (no secret) render with no toggle. Added
util + component unit tests and a story play function.

* fix(auth): inject token into prod SPA fallback + prime sessionStorage + no-store (#1378)

Addresses code-review feedback on the token-injection PR:

- Prod `server.ts` SPA deep-link fallback (e.g. `/oauth/callback`) previously
served the raw index.html off disk via serveStatic, bypassing injection — so
  a bookmark/reload at a non-`/` route with empty sessionStorage would 401.
  Route the SPA fallback through the same `serveIndexHtml` (inject) helper;
real static assets (paths with a dot) still serve verbatim. Dev already
injected on every HTML serve via Vite `transformIndexHtml`.
- `getAuthToken()` now persists the injected `window.__INSPECTOR_API_TOKEN__`
to sessionStorage (not just the URL-param branch), priming the backstop for
any later navigation that loses the global.
- Injected HTML responses now send `Cache-Control: no-store`, so a page
carrying a token isn't cached and served stale after a restart regenerates
  the token.

Integration tests added: SPA fallback (`/oauth/callback`) carries the token,
`Cache-Control: no-store` on injected HTML, real assets served verbatim, and
unknown `/api` routes 404 rather than falling through to the HTML shell.

* fix(auth): address #1383 review — split OAuth/connect toasts, tighten 401 match (#1379)

Code-review feedback on the OAuth-wiring PR:

- Callback effect: split completeOAuthFlow vs connect() into separate
try/catch blocks. A token-exchange failure now reads "OAuth token exchange
failed … Please try connecting again." (the single-use code is spent and the
URL was cleared, so a reload can't retry); a post-OAuth connect failure reads
"Failed to connect" since OAuth actually succeeded and re-clicking Connect
  reuses the persisted tokens.
- isUnauthorizedError: anchor the message fallback on the transport's
  `failed …(401)` wording instead of a bare `(401)`, so an unrelated `(401)`
spliced into an error message can't trip the OAuth flow. Added a test.
- Documented that clearing the pending id + URL before the server lookup is
  intentional (deleted/renamed server mid-flow → require a fresh Connect).

Also merges the squash-merged #1382 base from v2/main.

* docs(auth): address #1385 review — clarify double-save + keepalive cap + test fetch default (#1384)

Code-review feedback on the OAuth Network-log persistence PR:

- Documented the double-save: `FetchRequestLogState`'s `saveSession` listener
is the backstop; `BrowserNavigation`'s `beforeNavigate` hook is the primary
flush for the redirect case. Notes the listener may lose the navigation race
and is harmless when it duplicates (last-writer-wins, identical payload).
- Reworded the keepalive comment in `RemoteInspectorClientStorage.saveSession`:
the 64KB cap is general (the method is also reachable from the listener with
the full session log), so a long session could exceed it and drop silently —
acceptable since the persisted log is best-effort, not load-bearing.
- Added a regression test that constructs `RemoteInspectorClientStorage`
without a `fetchFn`, stubs `globalThis.fetch`, and asserts the default
wrapper calls it (locks in the "Illegal invocation" fix, which callers
  otherwise swallow).

Optional items (logger.warn on swallowed save errors; setupClientForServer dep
churn) acknowledged on the PR, not changed.

Also merges the squash-merged #1383 base from v2/main.

* feat(network): address #1387 review — form-encoded masking, cleaner flag, a11y (#1386)

Code-review feedback on the auth-response-body masking PR:

- Extended masking to form-urlencoded bodies (finding #1): the token *request*
  is `application/x-www-form-urlencoded` and carries `code` / `code_verifier` /
  `client_secret` / `refresh_token`. `maskSecretsInBody` now masks those in
form bodies too (preserving formatting; placeholder not percent-encoded).
  `code`/`code_verifier`/`client_assertion` are form-only sensitive keys —
deliberately NOT masked in JSON, where `code` is usually an error/status code.
- Replaced the double-stringify `hasSecrets` heuristic with an explicit
masked-flag propagated out of `maskNode` (finding #2) — robust if the
transform ever grows non-identity behavior, and one fewer serialization.
- Reset reveal state on body change via `key={body}` remount instead of a
setState-in-effect (finding #3; avoids the cascading-render lint rule).
- a11y (finding #4): `aria-label` on the Reveal/Hide button and `aria-live`
  on the hidden/revealed status text.
- Security tripwire comment near the `saveSession` listener (finding #6):
captured auth bodies are unmasked at source (masking is UI-only), so any new
post-token-exchange persistence path must redact first.

Tests: form-encoded masking (token + refresh requests), JSON `code` NOT masked,
non-object JSON pass-through, default-fetch wrapper. Story play + NetworkEntry
tests updated for the new aria-labels and the now-masked form request body.
Finding #5 (pretty-print asymmetry) is already handled by ContentViewer's JSON
formatting; #4-aria and #6 are the doc/a11y bits.

Also merges the squash-merged #1385 base from v2/main.

* refactor(network): address #1387 third-pass review — content-type masking, wholesale mask, dedup (#1386)

Third-pass code-review feedback on the auth-body masking PR:

- maskSecretsInBody now takes the body's content-type (finding #1): `*json*`
→ JSON masking, form-urlencoded → form masking, any other known type
(HTML/plaintext/XML) → no masking; absent/unknown → sniff as before. Removes
the implicit "non-JSON ⇒ form" guess for error pages etc. NetworkEntry passes
the request/response `content-type` header through to BodyPreview.
- Mask any non-empty value under a sensitive key wholesale (finding #2):
  a non-standard object/array value under e.g. `access_token` is replaced
rather than recursed into, so it can't leak. Empty-string still not flagged.
- Extracted `isSensitiveKey(set, key)` to dedupe the JSON/form key checks
  (finding #3).
- Reworded `MaskResult.masked` doc to cover the form (non-pretty-printed) case
  (finding #6).

Tests: non-string-value-under-sensitive-key wholesale mask; repeated form
param; empty form value not flagged; content-type honored (JSON type skips
form masking, text/plain skips masking, explicit form type masks).

Finding #5 (story re-hide) skipped per reviewer — unit test already covers
re-mask. Finding #4 (form edge cases) added.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

* test(network): address #1387 fourth-pass nits — content-type contract, key, form test (#1386)

Fourth-pass review (LGTM) — minor, non-blocking items:

- Documented the content-type matching contract on `maskSecretsInBody`:
substring match (`*json*` / `*x-www-form-urlencoded*`), and we trust the
wire's own label (a mislabeled body renders raw — acceptable for the
  screen-share threat model) (finding #1).
- Key `<BodyPreview>` by content-type + body (not body alone) so a header-only
change would also reset the reveal state (finding #3; not reachable today).
- Storybook `AuthSuccess`: assert revealed count `>=` reveal-button count to
  mirror the `hidden >= 2` check, so adding a non-masked body later can't drift
  the assertion silently (finding #4).
- Added a `NetworkEntry` unit test for form-encoded request-body masking
(code/code_verifier) — previously exercised only via the Storybook play.

Finding #2 (silent decodeURIComponent fallback on malformed keys) acknowledged
as a known quirk outside the threat model; no change.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

* perf(network): address #1387 fifth-pass — memoize masking, mask DCR mgmt token (#1386)

Fifth-pass review (LGTM):

- Memoized `maskSecretsInBody` in `BodyPreview` (recommended item #1): a
Reveal/Hide click no longer re-parses + re-walks the body; cost is once per
mount, and the `key` remount re-runs it on body/content-type change. Guarded
so a too-large body is never parsed (the hook runs unconditionally, with the
  size check inside the memo).
- Added `registration_access_token` (RFC 7592 DCR management credential, same
bearer class) to the masked key set, and a confidential-client `/register`
  response fixture test (#5) asserting client_secret + registration_access_token
  masked, client_id/metadata visible.
- Tightened the `isMaskableValue` doc to state the exact contract: non-null,
non-empty-string values are masked wholesale (#3).

Items #2 (transport parse cost — capped by the memo) and #4 (test-only
MASK_PLACEHOLDER export) left as-is per the review.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

* docs(network): clarify body-update emits list event only (#1387 sixth pass) (#1386)

Sixth-pass review (LGTM, all nits). Added a comment on
`onFetchRequestBodyUpdate` noting it re-emits only `fetchRequestsChange`, not
the per-entry `fetchRequest` event — list-reading consumers pick up the body
on the next render; a future per-entry subscriber would need its own event.

Other items left as-is per the review: full-string `BodyPreview` key (#1,
micro-perf only if profiled), NaN under a sensitive key (#3, consistent with
the mask-non-null-non-empty contract), `&`-only form separator (#4, OAuth
never emits `;`).

feat(apps): AppsScreen and InspectorView wiring (#1263) (#1286)
* feat(apps): AppsScreen and InspectorView wiring (#1263)

Adds the Apps tab as a top-level screen composed of `AppListItem`,
`AppDetailPanel`, and `AppRenderer`. The screen is presentational —
selection, form values, running, and maximize state are local; data and
side effects come in via props and callbacks.

InspectorView filters `tools` through `isAppTool` (wrapped in a try/catch
so a malformed `_meta.ui.resourceUri` skips one tool instead of dropping
every following App), exposes the Apps tab in `ALL_TABS` after Tools, and
wires Phase-3 stub callbacks plus a stub bridge factory.

* refactor(apps): extract AppControls and rename Refresh button

Pulls the sidebar list, search input, "List updated" indicator, and
Refresh button out of `AppsScreen` into a dedicated `AppControls`
group, mirroring `ToolControls` and `TaskControls`. The Refresh button
moves from a full-width row beneath the list to the top-right of the
title row (single label "Refresh", matching `TaskControls`).

`AppsScreen` keeps the right-pane orchestration (selection, form,
running, maximize, header actions) and now delegates the entire
sidebar to `AppControls`.

* chore(stories): seed InspectorView demo tools with MCP Apps

Adds three apps (Cohort Data, Weather Widget, Ops Dashboard) carrying
real `_meta.ui.resourceUri` to the demo tools list so the Apps tab has
content in the Default story alongside the existing tools.

* fix(apps): drop AppDetailPanel title row to avoid duplicate name

The parent AppsScreen header already shows the app name, so the panel's
own title/icon row rendered the name twice. Remove the title row (and
its now-unused imports, styled subcomponents, and the four tests that
asserted on title/icon rendering).

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

* refactor(resources): drop annotation badges from ResourceListItem

The list row now renders just the resource title/name. Audience and
priority badges remain visible in the preview/template panels, so the
data is still surfaced — just not duplicated in the picker. Drops the
now-unused AnnotationBadge import, the badge-only stories, and the
badge-rendering test.

* chore(apps): address review — share hasInputFields, show header icon

- Extracts the duplicated `Object.keys(inputSchema.properties ?? {}).length > 0`
check from `AppsScreen` (and the equivalent in `AppDetailPanel`'s
  `hasFields`) into a shared `hasInputFields` helper in `toolUtils`,
  with tests.
- Renders the selected tool's first icon next to the right-pane header
title in `AppsScreen`, restoring the icon visibility that was lost
when `AppDetailPanel`'s title row was removed.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

* chore(apps): finish hasInputFields extraction; document isOpening

- AppDetailPanel now actually calls the shared `hasInputFields` helper
instead of inlining the same `Object.keys(...).length > 0` check.
- AppsScreen comments why `isOpening={false}` is hardcoded: the screen
flips to AppRenderer synchronously, so the loading state is unreachable
here — the prop remains for standalone use and Phase 3 wiring.

feat(apps): add AppListItem and AppDetailPanel groups (#1261) (#1273)
* feat(apps): add AppListItem and AppDetailPanel groups (#1261)

Two presentational groups for the upcoming AppsScreen.

AppListItem (clients/web/src/components/groups/AppListItem/):
- Props { tool, selected, onClick }
- Renders tool.icons[0] (sized sm) when present, label (title ?? name),
two-line clamped description, and a trailing chevron affordance.
- Reuses ToolListItem's selected-state highlight (UnstyledButton bg via
  --mantine-primary-color-light).

AppDetailPanel (clients/web/src/components/groups/AppDetailPanel/):
- Props { tool, formValues, isOpening, onFormChange, onOpenApp }
- Layout: optional icon + title row, optional description, divider,
SchemaForm bound to tool.inputSchema, full-width "Open App" button.
- "Open App" is disabled while isOpening or while any required input
field is empty (validation derived from tool.inputSchema.required).
- No annotations, progress, or cancel — execution is delegated to the
embedded app, not run as an MCP tool call from the panel.

Convention notes:
- Issue text references @tabler IconChevronRight / IconPlayerPlay; the
v2 web client already uses react-icons (md/ri namespaces), so this PR
uses MdChevronRight and MdPlayArrow for consistency rather than
  introducing a second icon library.

Stories: AppListItem (Default, Selected, WithIcon, NoDescription, LongName);
AppDetailPanel (NoFields, SimpleStringParam, MultipleParams, WithIcon,
Opening, ComplexSchema).

Tests: 22 cases covering rendering branches, callback wiring, and the
disabled-button derivation. Per-file coverage 100% across lines,
statements, functions, and branches for both new components.

Closes #1261

* fix(stories): inline SVG for WithIcon stories so they render reliably

The Wikipedia-hosted PNG used in the AppListItem and AppDetailPanel
WithIcon stories returned a broken image in Storybook (rate-limited /
hot-link blocked). Replace it with an inline SVG sun icon as a data
URI so the stories render offline, in Chromatic, and on any network.

* test(apps): address PR #1273 review feedback

- Extract resolveDisplayLabel(name, title?) to src/utils/toolUtils.ts and
migrate all four call sites (AppListItem, AppDetailPanel, ToolListItem,
ToolDetailPanel) to consume it. Avoids the fourth copy when the next
list/detail screen arrives. Includes a small unit suite.

- AppDetailPanel: only render the <Divider/> when the schema has at least
one property — previously a no-input app showed an orphaned separator
between the description and the Open App button.

- AppDetailPanel: align PanelTitle truncate to `true` (matches the
ItemLabel form used in AppListItem / ToolListItem); behaviorally
identical, just less surprising for future readers.

- AppDetailPanel: add an inline comment explaining that SchemaForm is
disabled only while isOpening, not while validation fails — users
should be able to keep filling required fields. The validation gate
lives on the Open App button.

- Extract the inline SUN_ICON_SVG data URI used by the WithIcon stories
to src/test/fixtures/storyIcons.ts so the next story that needs it
  doesn't grow a third copy.

- Tests: add the AppDetailPanel divider-conditional cases (rendered
with fields, omitted without). Per-file coverage stays at 100% for
AppListItem, AppDetailPanel, ToolListItem, ToolDetailPanel, and the
new toolUtils. Suite: 70 files / 618 tests passing.

* test(toolUtils): rename empty-string test for readability

Drops the doubled "is ... is preserved" phrase in the test name.
Behavior unchanged.

test(coverage): bootstrap vitest unit infra and add tests at 90%+ per file (#1245) (#1269)
* test(coverage): bootstrap vitest unit infra and add tests at 90%+ per file (#1245)

Establishes the unit-test runtime AGENTS.md mandates: a vitest "unit"
project alongside the existing storybook project, RTL + jest-dom +
happy-dom, a Mantine-aware render helper, and a 90%-line per-file
coverage gate enforced by CI. Adds 66 test files covering all 62
components under elements/groups/screens/views, plus core/mcp and
clients/web/src/utils. Total: 577 tests, 98.7% line coverage globally.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>

* test(coverage): address PR #1269 review feedback

- AGENTS.md: correct coverage gate description (lines ≥ 90, statements ≥ 85,
functions ≥ 80, branches ≥ 50) with rationale for the relaxed branch
  threshold
- InspectorView.test.tsx: document what the Math.random() mock values
  (0.1 / 0.99) control vs. STUB_SUCCESS_RATE in InspectorView.tsx
- vite.config.ts / tsconfig.test.json: drop unused `globals: true` and the
`vitest/globals` type now that every test file imports describe/it/expect/vi
explicitly; manual `afterEach(cleanup)` in setup.ts remains required because
  testing-library auto-cleanup relies on globalThis.afterEach

8edff4ea77 Phase 0 foundations for component interfaces refactor
Stands up the type-only prerequisites for the v2 UX component
interfaces refactor per specification/v2_ux_interfaces_plan.md.

Phase 0.1 — MCP SDK dependency:
- Add @modelcontextprotocol/sdk ^1.29.0 and zod ^4.3.6 to both the
root package.json and clients/web/package.json so component files
can import Tool / Prompt / Resource / Task / LoggingLevel / etc.
  directly from the SDK.

Phase 0.2 — Inspector wrapper-types module:
- Create core/mcp/types.ts mirroring the type-only subset of v1.5's
  core/mcp/types.ts: MCPServerConfig (discriminated union), ServerType,
  MCPConfig, ConnectionStatus, StderrLogEntry, MessageEntry (Date
timestamps, not ISO strings), FetchRequestEntry(+Base), ServerState,
and the *Invocation types. Adds v2-only wrappers
  InspectorResourceSubscription and InspectorServerJsonDraft.
- Add core/mcp/taskNotificationSchemas.ts for the Inspector-owned
notifications/tasks/list_changed signal (not in the SDK).
- Add core/mcp/elicitationCreateMessage.ts re-exporting ElicitRequest
and ElicitResult plus an InspectorPendingElicitation interface for
  typing the pending-queue.
- Add core/json/jsonUtils.ts for the shared JsonValue / JsonObject
  types used inside core/mcp/types.ts.
- Copy v1.5's clients/web/src/utils/jsonUtils.ts (JsonSchemaType) and
schemaUtils.ts (AJV-backed validators) verbatim so SchemaForm can
switch off its local JsonSchema type.
- Copy v1.5's clients/web/src/lib/types/customHeaders.ts verbatim for
  ServerSettingsForm and the experimental panel.
- Add clients/web/src/types/navigation.ts with InspectorTab (UI-routing
concept, lives with the web client rather than in core/).
- Wire tsconfig.app.json + vite.config.ts with the @inspector/core/*
path alias so component files can import from core/ without
  relative-path hell.

Phase 0.3 — Vet (likely) hedges in v2_ux_interfaces.md:
- Follow-up sweep on commit 2ef257da. Replaces the remaining
useMcpClient references with useInspectorClient, ties pending
elicitation / sampling callbacks to the in-InspectorClient queue
rather than a non-existent useElicitation / useSampling hook,
corrects Task references to the SDK type (not an InspectorTask
wrapper), corrects log hook wiring to useMessageLog, and strikes
all remaining v2-only hooks with explicit "no v1.5 analog"
  annotations. grep "likely" specification/v2_ux_interfaces.md now
  returns zero results.

Phase 0.4 — Local-redeclaration inventory:
- specification/v2_ux_interfaces_phase_0_4_inventory.md enumerates
every ad hoc local type (JsonSchema, LogLevel, TaskStatus,
  PromptItem, ResourceItem, ToolListItemProps, RootEntry, KeyValuePair,
inline ConnectionStatus / transport unions) that will be replaced
in Phases 1–4, including the file it lives in, every site that
re-imports it, and the SDK / wrapper type that replaces it. Intended
for the Phase 0 PR description and as a running checklist during
  the refactor.

Build state: npm run build / lint / format:check all pass in
clients/web.
