fix: address Copilot review round 1 — move the Storybook optimizeDeps into a tested helper
The storybook project's optimizeDeps now comes from `getStorybookOptimizeDeps()` in `vite-base-config.ts`, beside the dev-server helper it mirrors, so the `force` flag and the base include/exclude it carries are asserted by `vite-base-config.test.ts` rather than living only in an inline object a config refactor could drop. fix: force the Storybook dep pre-bundle on every run instead of trusting the cache
Vite keys the Storybook project's dep cache on the lockfile and the config,
never on what the story graph imports. After a story or component gains an
import of an already-installed package, the cached bundle is still "valid",
Vite skips the scan, and the first request for the new package re-runs the
optimizer mid-run: the browser hash is bumped, a full-reload is sent that the
Vitest tester iframes ignore, and the `@storybook/react` renderer already
loaded in a live iframe keeps the old `?v=` for its lazy
`import("@storybook/react-dom-shim")`, so every story that iframe renders from
then on fails with "Failed to fetch dynamically imported module". The next run
is green because the cache has caught up.
`optimizeDeps.force: true` on the storybook project discards the cache up
front so the scanner crawls every story entry before the browser opens — the
cold path CI already takes on every PR. Measured: stale-cache 6/6 red on the
baseline, 6/6 green with the fix, 3/3 red reverted; ~0.8s per run.

refactor: assert retry and asyncUtilTimeout at runtime, delete the source scanner
Round 8 of the review asked for an AST. That was the right diagnosis of the
wrong problem: the question was never which parser to use, it was why a
test-timeout guard was parsing JavaScript at all.
It got there one reasonable step at a time. The guard enforces two rules no
Vitest config can report — a per-test `retry`, and Testing Library's
`asyncUtilTimeout` — so it read them out of source text, and the review found a
new valid spelling it missed in five consecutive rounds: a trailing comment,
nested parens in `it.each([makeCase()])`, a member-access prefix, the shorthand
`{ retry }`, an aliased import, a non-literal title. Each fix was correct and
each made it more parser-shaped, until it carried eight helpers doing quote
tracking and bracket balancing.
Both rules are observable at runtime, exactly:
- `vitest.setup.shared.mts` is loaded by all six projects and reads
`ctx.task.retry` — the value Vitest resolved for the test. That covers
strictly more than the scan did: a per-test option, a `describe` option
inherited by children, a project-level setting, and a `--retry` flag typed at
a command line, which the scan could never see since it only read npm scripts.
- `clients/web/src/test/asyncUtilTimeout.test.ts` asserts
`getConfig().asyncUtilTimeout`, the value this project's own waitFors read.
Neither has a spelling to anticipate, so neither can be outrun by a new one.
Both were observed firing before being trusted.
The guard keeps only what it can answer by asking Vitest: resolved budgets,
project-level retry, config discovery, and that each project still loads the
setup file — the one thing about the runtime assertion a config CAN report.
868 lines to 361, every scanner helper gone, and 33 of 48 unit tests deleted
because they pinned edge cases of a thing that no longer exists.
storybookSetup.ts goes with it. At the library's own value its configure() call
was a no-op, and the assertion is what pins the number.
AGENTS.md gains the general rule: a rule about what the code DOES is asserted at
runtime, not read out of the source — reach for a verify:* guard when the
question is about configuration, which a tool can be asked to resolve.

fix: state every test-gate timeout instead of inheriting a library default
Three of the six Vitest projects ran on Vitest's own testTimeout: 5000 and five on its hookTimeout/teardownTimeout: 10000, and all 788 Testing Library waits in the web unit project ran on asyncUtilTimeout: 1000. None of those numbers was chosen here, and all of them were sized for an idle machine rather than for three or four concurrent worktree sessions each running a full local:gate on eight cores. #2292, #2278, #2250, #1942 and #1742 were each that class, diagnosed one site at a time. This is the complement of #1596, not a retreat from it: every fix that issue produced stands, and no race is hidden here. What changes is that a correct, deterministic test is no longer cut off by a budget nobody picked. - vitest.shared.mts exports frozen TIMEOUTS / INTEGRATION_TIMEOUTS; all six projects spread one of them, clients/launcher importing the shared module for the first time to do so. - Both web projects configure Testing Library's asyncUtilTimeout. The storybook one needs its own setup file, deliberately outside .storybook/ and free of setProjectAnnotations so the automatic preview-annotation provisioning (#1898) is untouched. - 28 per-suite restatements of the integration project's own budget are gone, so raising the shared value now moves every site under it. The handful that genuinely differ — cross-process lock contention, a full OAuth round trip — keep their budget as a named constant that says why. - AppRenderer's waitFor no longer asks for exactly its enclosing budget, which it could never win (#2292's shape); cli's e2e child timer drops below the project budget so the bound carrying the diagnostic is the one that fires. - The transition auto-settle's slack term is named RAF_SLACK_MS and raised; the term derived from HEADER_ANIM_MS is untouched. The two answer to different things and must not be scaled as one number. - The 19 Playwright budgets scattered across three web smokes become four named constants in scripts/lib/browser-timeouts.mjs. scripts/verify-test-timeouts.mjs resolves each project through Vitest itself and asserts the budgets, the asyncUtilTimeout sites, and that retry stays unset. It was observed red against the pre-change config: unit/tui/launcher at testTimeout 5000, five projects at hookTimeout 10000, both asyncUtilTimeout sites unmet. fix: give the Ace-worker story a budget that can outlast a loaded machine
`JsonObjectInput > Annotates The Offending Line` waits for Ace's JSON worker to produce gutter annotations. The worker starts out of process and debounces its result, so the story already used an explicit `waitFor` — but it asked for 5000ms while the storybook vitest project set no `testTimeout` at all, leaving it on vitest's 5000ms default. The wait could therefore never win: the test was killed at exactly the moment its budget expired, and on a loaded machine that is what happened, reporting `expected 0 to be greater than 0`. Raise the project's `testTimeout` to 15s and the story's own wait to 10s, so the wait has room to report what it actually saw. Neither loosens an assertion — a story that blows 15s has genuinely failed, and a worker that never starts still fails, just later. chore: address Copilot review round 3 on #2200
Two suppressed comments, both accurate. - Pin zod, zod/v4 and open to the root in vitest.shared.mts, and add matching paths to the three clients/web tsconfigs. The claim they replace — that these resolve unambiguously by walk-up — was wrong: both still sit at the top level of clients/web/node_modules as transitive copies (zod under eslint-plugin-react-hooks, open under Storybook), so an unpinned bare import from a web test resolved the client copy while core/ and the SDK packages resolved the root's. For open that is only wasteful; for zod it is a schema built by one copy and an instanceof check made by the other across the whole @modelcontextprotocol/* surface. zod is deduped as well, and zod/v4 gets its own entry because first-party code imports both specifiers and pinning one would split the package rather than collapse it. - Update the consumer comments that #2195 falsified. clients/web/vite.config.ts (three places) and server/start-vite-dev-server.ts all still said the shared aliases resolve pino/hono and friends from clients/web/node_modules; they now state the split — react and react-dom from the client install, everything root-declared from the repo root. - local-dev skill: replace the wrong 'resolves unambiguously' list with the distinction that actually matters. Deleting a declaration is not the same as the package resolving from the root, because chokidar, zod, open and react all sit in a client install transitively; check the install, not the manifest. ajv, commander and undici carry no pin because no client install has a copy. npm run local:gate passes from a cold tsc build. chore(web): extract App.tsx's OAuth recovery cluster into useOAuthRecovery (#2153)
Phase 2 step 2 of the App.tsx decomposition (#2129, under #2126). App.tsx goes from 4,267 to 3,178 lines; no behaviour change. The new hook owns the step-up slot and its retry operation, the re-auth banner, the deferred background-tab recovery, the redirect plumbing (webOAuthStorage, sessionStorageAdapter, onBeforeOAuthRedirect, prepareOAuthRedirect), the command-scoped recovery wrappers, the four OAuth effects, the abandoned-redirect check, the /oauth/callback completion, the Connection Info OAuth details, and the clear/finalize paths. All five once-only latches move with it unchanged. Three seams could not be a straight move: - useSessionRef no longer takes pendingStepUp/pendingReauth. They are this hook's own state, so App.tsx would have had to hold them purely to hand them back; instead the owner mirrors them into the ref in an effect of its own, following the shape activeServerName already had. - setupClientForServer is injected through a ref, because it reads onBeforeOAuthRedirect and sessionStorageAdapter out of this hook and so cannot be declared before it. The callback effect reads the ref before burning its one-shot latch. - The two clear-OAuth modal adapters and onReauthenticateFromBanner stay in App.tsx: they bind App-owned state, and the latter drives a reconnect, which step 3 owns. Dropping ~1,100 lines took App.tsx under the React Compiler's bail-out, so the compiler-backed react-hooks rules now analyse it and report nine pre-existing findings that were previously invisible. Each is suppressed with a narrow justified disable naming #2161, which is filed to resolve them; the one new finding (exhaustive-deps on setReAuthBanner) is fixed rather than suppressed. chore(web): extract App.tsx's leaf hooks (#2128)
Phase 1 of #2126. Six hooks move out of `clients/web/src/App.tsx`, taking its component body from 4,891 to 4,267 lines with no behavior change: - useThemeToggle — the light/dark toggle - useTabUiState — the nine per-screen `ui` objects, the active tab, the pinned-Protocol ids, and the session reset - useInspectorStores — the twelve state managers as one create/destroy lifecycle, their `core/react` hooks, and the pagination-mode selection - useExportActions — the eleven Clear / Export / Replay handlers - useProgressToasts — `notifications/progress` toasts - useTaskToasts — task-status toasts, the cancel confirmation, the taskId -> progress map, and the in-flight tool-call taskId ref Holding the stores in one slot collapses `setupClientForServer`'s and `onConfirmRemove`'s dependency arrays from twelve entries to two stable callbacks; `destroyStores` reads the live set through a ref mirror rather than the state it also writes. All six hooks are at 100% on all four coverage dimensions, no `v8 ignore` needed. Also refreshes the now-stale "~4.5k-line" description of App.tsx in AGENTS.md and the coverage `include` comment. chore(storybook): drop the redundant setProjectAnnotations setup file
Since Storybook 10.3, @storybook/addon-vitest provisions the preview annotations itself — and *skips* doing so when it finds a setup file calling setProjectAnnotations. So .storybook/vitest.setup.ts was not merely redundant, it was actively opting the project out of the automatic path, which the addon printed a notice about on every run. Remove the file and the `setupFiles` entry from the `storybook` vitest project. A green suite doesn't prove the automatic provisioning works: without the preview annotations, stories would render outside MantineProvider and without App.css, and would very likely still pass. Add src/test/PreviewAnnotations.stories.tsx, which asserts from a play function that the Mantine theme variables and the App.css tokens are actually present in the rendered document, so an unthemed render fails loudly. Verified by emptying `decorators` in preview.tsx and confirming the story goes red. The a11y addon's axe runner can't be introspected from a play function, so it was checked out-of-band: a story with a real violation turned the suite red with the setup file already removed, confirming @storybook/addon-a11y/preview is applied automatically. feat(web): enforce localhost-only binding; expand loopback origin allow-list (#1796)
Closes #1795. Enforce localhost-only binding in code (the "never 0.0.0.0" rule was only a spec note): refuse an all-interfaces HOST — across every spelling the OS binds as the wildcard (inet_aton decimal/octal/hex, IPv6, IPv4-mapped, zone-scoped, IDNA/Unicode) — unless DANGEROUSLY_BIND_ALL_INTERFACES=true (Docker's sanctioned opt-in). Fixes the reported stdio-connect 403 by expanding the default loopback origin allow-list to all three interchangeable forms. Hardening surfaced across an extended review: closes an IDNA/fullwidth wildcard bypass, a blank-ALLOWED_ORIGINS fail-open, and the CLI/TUI OAuth-callback wildcard bind (loopback-only now, RFC 8252); canonicalizes the origin allow-list the way a browser does; derives frame-ancestors from the real embedder list (IPv6-literal exclusion verified in headless Chromium); strictPort on all three bind points; and preserves the CLI exit-code map + JSON envelope through the mcp-inspector --cli launcher path. Shared host normalization lives in core/node/hostUrl.ts. Docs + tests + smokes throughout. 🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code) |

test(web): settle real-timer Transitions so the coverage gate can't leak 'window is not defined' (#1786) (#1793)
* test(web): settle real-timer Transitions so the coverage gate can't leak 'window is not defined' (#1786) The web coverage gate was intermittently failing with an unhandled `ReferenceError: window is not defined` thrown from a Mantine `Transition` timer that fired after happy-dom tore down `window` (the #1760 class). The three `ViewHeader.test.tsx` tests that use `renderWithMantineTransitions` (real, env="default" timers) each drove their *primary* transition to completion, but the concurrent *enter* on a sibling cell leaves no unmount to `waitFor`, so its rAF→setTimeout chain could still be pending at teardown and fire post-teardown, failing an unrelated later file's run. Fix: after each such test, flush pending transition timers against the still-mounted tree via `settleTransitions()` (a wait longer than the 300ms header duration + rAF slack), so the settling setState targets a live tree and nothing is left to fire after cleanup unmounts. Also close the related nit: `renderWithMantine`/`renderWithMantineTransitions` now accept a `colorScheme` option, so `ViewHeader.test.tsx` no longer hand-rolls a bare `defaultColorScheme="dark"` MantineProvider (the #1760 anti-pattern). AGENTS.md documents both the option and the settle requirement. Closes #1786 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * test(web): address review — export settleTransitions, derive settle from HEADER_ANIM_MS, guard fake timers, correct comments Review feedback on PR #1793: 1. Derive the settle window from the real animation duration: export `HEADER_ANIM_MS` from ViewHeader.tsx and compute `TRANSITION_SETTLE_MS = HEADER_ANIM_MS + 200` in the test, so bumping the header duration can't silently make the settle insufficient (the invariant is now structural, not a comment). 2. Move `settleTransitions` into the shared `renderWithMantine.tsx` helper (exported, optional `ms` arg) next to `renderWithMantineTransitions`, since AGENTS.md points every future caller at it — shared test scaffolding belongs in src/test/, not a single test file. AGENTS.md now references the helper. 3. Guard `settleTransitions` against `vi.useFakeTimers()`: it awaits a real setTimeout, so under fake timers it would hang to the test timeout. Throw a clear message instead. 4. Correct the diagnosis comments: the hazard isn't a Mantine timer surviving unmount (its effect cleanup cancels timers) — it's the React state update Mantine's inner rAF schedules outside `act`, resolving post-teardown. Also fix the stale setup.ts matchMedia comment: the reduce-motion stub does not disable transitions (Mantine defaults respectReducedMotion=false); env="test" is the actual #1760 protection. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * test(web): tighten the review-trail comments (round 2) Comment-accuracy follow-ups from PR #1793 round 2 (test infra only, no behavior change): - DEFAULT_SETTLE_MS: drop the false "Mantine's default header transitions run ~300ms" attribution (300ms is ViewHeader's HEADER_ANIM_MS; Mantine's Transition default is 250ms). Justify 500ms generically — a typical few-hundred-ms transition plus rAF slack. - settleTransitions doc: stop asserting a single escape mechanism as fact. State what's observed (a post-teardown dispatchSetState throwing from resolveUpdatePriority, which runs synchronously inside dispatchSetState), what's known (useTransition has an unmount cleanup), and that the exact escape route isn't pinned down — the act-wrapped drain fixes it regardless. - setup.ts: happy-dom v20 does implement matchMedia, so reframe the block as a deliberate override (pinning prefers-reduced-motion: reduce) rather than a polyfill for a missing API. - Export MantineRenderOptions so callers can name the options type. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * test(web): resolve the last comment-contradiction + tighten the matchMedia override (round 3) Round-3 review of PR #1793 (test infra only): - setup.ts finding 1: the inner `value:` comment still said "happy-dom doesn't implement it", contradicting the block comment two lines up (which now correctly states happy-dom v20 DOES implement matchMedia and this is an override). Dropped the false clause; kept the part that actually justifies the `as unknown as MediaQueryList` double cast (the stub omits most of the interface). - setup.ts finding 5 (folded in rather than deferred): anchored the `matches` regex to `/prefers-reduced-motion:\s*reduce/` so the override no longer also answers `true` to `(prefers-reduced-motion: no-preference)`. - renderWithMantine.tsx nit 4: the `env="test"` rationale sat on `makeWrapper`, which also builds the `env="default"` wrappers (opposite purpose). Moved it onto `renderWithMantine`, mirroring the `env="default"` rationale on `renderWithMantineTransitions`; `makeWrapper` keeps a one-liner. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * test(web): make renderWithMantineTransitions own the settle (round 4) Round-4 review of PR #1793 — implements the note-2 hardening in-PR rather than deferring it, plus note 1 and the nit: - Note 2 (settle was a convention AGENTS.md had to police): the real-transitions helper now OWNS the settle. `renderWithMantineTransitions` arms an automatic post-test drain via a helper-registered `afterEach`, so a real-transitions test can no longer leak the #1760 class by forgetting to settle a concurrent enter. Verified empirically that the helper's `afterEach` runs BEFORE the global cleanup() in setup.ts (afterEach is LIFO; setup.ts's cleanup is a setupFile registered first) — the ordering the drain depends on. The three explicit `settleTransitions()` calls in ViewHeader.test.tsx are gone; each render passes `settleMs: HEADER_ANIM_MS + 200` instead, keeping the window duration-derived. The auto-settle skips under fake timers (and no transitions test uses them). `settleTransitions` stays exported for the rare manual mid-body case. - Note 1 (settle formula was duration-only): the helper doc + the new `settleMs` option doc now say the window must exceed the longest JS chain — duration PLUS any enterDelay/exitDelay — plus rAF slack. - Nit: ViewHeader.test.tsx now states why HEADER_ANIM_MS is exported (the settle window must track the animation it settles). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * test(web): pin + self-check the auto-settle hook ordering; fix fake-timer doc; keep longest settle (round 5) Round-5 review of PR #1793: - Note 2 (load-bearing hook ordering was unpinned/undefended): the auto-settle's afterEach must run before setup.ts's cleanup(). Added BOTH guards the review suggested. (1) Runtime self-check: renderWithMantineTransitions captures the render container; the afterEach throws a clear error if it's already detached (cleanup ran first). (2) Pinned `sequence.hooks: "stack"` on the unit project. While verifying, found the ordering actually holds in EVERY sequence.hooks mode (stack/list/parallel) because setupFile hooks are outer relative to the helper's import-registered hook — so the comments now state that true mechanism (the pin is defense-in-depth; the container.isConnected check is the real enforcement), rather than claiming it "depends on stack". Full 3533-test unit suite passes under "stack". - Note 1 (fake-timer claim was backwards): AGENTS.md no longer says the leak "would return" under fake timers (fake clocks park Mantine's setTimeout/rAF and are discarded, not drained). The real hazard — the auto-settle silently no-ops, so real-clock work is unprotected — is now stated. The afterEach also console.warns on the fake-timer skip (was silent; the manual settleTransitions throws — this closes that asymmetry). - Note 3 (arming was last-write-wins): armedSettleMs now keeps the longest window via Math.max, so a later short-animation render can't under-settle an earlier long one. - Nit: documented `settleMs: 0` as a working opt-out for a test that drove every transition to completion itself (act flush, no wait). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * test(web): post-await self-check + correct the hook-ordering mechanism (round 6) Round-6 review of PR #1793: - Finding 1 (self-check blind in parallel): added the post-await container.isConnected re-check the review suggested (factored both checks into assertConnectedForSettle(container, "before"|"after")). While verifying it, I established the actual mechanism, which differs from what both prior comments and the review assumed: setup.ts's cleanup() is a *setupFile (outer)* hook, and Vitest runs inner afterEach hooks to completion before outer ones in EVERY sequence.hooks mode — so cleanup never races this settle. Verified: ViewHeader's real-transitions tests pass under stack/list/parallel with neither check tripping, and a same-suite `afterEach(cleanup)` probe (where the ordering CAN break) does trip them (pre-check). So sequence.hooks isn't load-bearing here; the comments in renderWithMantine.tsx, vite.config.ts, and AGENTS.md now say that. The "stack" pin stays as documentation of intent / defense-in-depth, and the two checks are the real guard against a future same-level-cleanup regression. - Nit: documented why last-write-wins on armedContainer is fine (cleanup detaches every container at once, so the last is a faithful "cleanup ran" proxy). - Nit: the fake-timer skip warning now interpolates the current test name so it's actionable at teardown. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * test(web): disarm the auto-settle on self-unmount; concurrency + message nits (round 7) Round-7 review of PR #1793: - Finding 1 (guard misdiagnoses a self-unmount): the detached-tree check fired on ANY detachment and blamed a broken cleanup ordering, but a test calling the unmount() returned by renderWithMantineTransitions also detaches the container (a common pattern here). Fixed at the source: the helper now wraps unmount() to disarm the auto-settle (clear armedSettleMs/armedContainer) — once the test has unmounted there's nothing to settle against a live tree. The guard message also now names the self-unmount cause. Verified: a probe that unmounts a real-transitions render no longer trips the guard; ViewHeader unaffected. - Nit: documented that the module-level arming assumes sequential tests (not safe under test.concurrent/describe.concurrent). - Nit: the fake-timer skip warning falls back to "(unknown test)" when currentTestName is undefined. - Finding 3 (doc weight): trimmed the AGENTS.md bullet to the *rule* (use the transitions variant only for mid-flight assertions; pass a duration-derived settleMs; no fake timers; use the returned unmount()) and pointed at the helper's own comments for the full mechanism, which now carries it at more depth. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * test(web): downgrade (not disarm) the auto-settle on self-unmount; per-container liveness (round 8) Round-8 review of PR #1793: - Finding 1 (round-7 disarm was too blunt + self-contradictory): disarming on self-unmount removed the drain entirely for the mid-flight-unmount test that most needs #1760 protection, and its "useTransition cleanup applies" rationale contradicted this file's own settleTransitions doc (which says that cleanup can't be relied on to stop the rAF). Now the wrapped unmount() DOWNGRADES: the drain still runs (mechanism-independent — flushes queued rAF/setTimeout while window is alive; a setState on the unmounted tree is a React no-op), only the liveness assertion for that container is dropped. - Finding 2 (disarm undid round-5 max-wins arming): arming is now per-container (a Set of live containers) instead of all-or-nothing. Unmounting one tree drops only its own container; a second still-mounted tree keeps its longer window and its liveness check. The isConnected assertions run over the still-live set. Verified with probes: returned unmount() drains without tripping the guard; a second still-mounted tree is unaffected when the first self-unmounts; a bare mid-body cleanup() STILL trips the guard (it's live, not decoration); ViewHeader unchanged. Comments/AGENTS.md updated so the self-unmount path and the settleTransitions doc no longer contradict each other. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * test(web): make the auto-settle drain best-effort so a guard trip doesn't also leak (round 9) Round-9 review of PR #1793 (merge-verdict; optional robustness note): - Finding 1 (pre-settle throw skipped the drain): on the ordering regression the guard exists to catch, throwing before the drain meant the maintainer got BOTH the explanatory error AND an uncaught post-teardown `window is not defined` in an unrelated file. The afterEach now captures a liveness failure, always runs the act-wrapped drain (flushing queued rAF/setTimeout while window is alive), and throws afterward — so the explanatory error stands alone. Verified: a bare mid-body cleanup() still throws the guard error (now after draining); ViewHeader unchanged. - Nits: AGENTS.md now names the reachable bare-detach path (a mid-body cleanup() on a still-armed tree) rather than "a bare RTL unmount"; the settleMs doc notes arming is per-test, so in a multi-render test the longest window wins (a `0` is superseded by a longer sibling render). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * test(web): fix the regressed fake-timer doc + guarantee the liveness error survives a drain throw (round 10) Round-10 review of PR #1793 (merge-verdict): - Finding 1 (AGENTS.md fake-timer clause regressed in the round-7 doc trim): it had reverted to "silently dropping the protection", which round 5 had corrected — "silently" is now false (the auto-settle console.warns on the fake-timer skip) and "dropping the protection" reinstates a walked-back framing (fake clocks park Mantine's timers on a discarded clock, so the no-op doesn't obviously reopen #1760). Reworded to match the helper: it warns, and the hazard is that real-clock work is then unprotected, so the test depends on which clock was installed at teardown. - Finding 3 (nit): matched the console.warn string to that same corrected framing, so AGENTS.md and the warning agree. - Finding 2 (nit): a drain-time throw could discard the captured liveness error (the substitution round 9 set out to prevent, one step further). Now the drain error is captured too and the liveness error is preferred, so the explanatory error always wins. Verified a bare mid-body cleanup() still throws the liveness error after the best-effort drain; lint clean (no throw-in-finally); ViewHeader unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * test(web): preserve the drain error as cause + route the guard message to the reachable cause (round 11) Round-11 review of PR #1793 (merge-verdict; two optional polish items): - Finding 1: when both a liveness error and a drain-time throw occur, the drain error was dropped entirely. It's now attached as the liveness error's `cause` (when the liveness error is an Error), so an act-surfaced component error from the settling render is preserved without changing which error fails the test. - Finding 2: the guard's error message pointed the reader first at the `sequence.hooks: "stack"` pin, which the file itself documents as defense-in-depth and NOT the ordering guarantee. Reworded to name the actually- reachable cause first — cleanup moved to a same-level afterEach instead of the setup.ts setupFile (outer) hook — and demote the pin to a parenthetical, so a maintainer who trips the check isn't sent to investigate a non-causal setting. Verified: a bare mid-body cleanup() throws the reworded message; eslint clean; ViewHeader unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * test(web): guard message states observation before candidate causes; log the preserved drain error (round 12) Round-12 review of PR #1793 (merge-verdict): - Finding 1: the round-11 rewording had dropped the "Expected cause:" hedge and asserted setup.ts's cleanup() as the fact, but the check only observes that a still-live armed tree was detached — it can't identify what detached it. Reworded to state that observation first, then list candidate causes: (a) a bare mid-body cleanup() in the test (the reachable case today), or (b) cleanup moved off the setup.ts setupFile hook to a same-level afterEach. No single cause asserted as fact. - Nits 2a/2b: when both a liveness error and a drain error fire, the drain error is now also console.error'd (in addition to being attached as `cause`), so it's readable regardless of whether the reporter renders `error.cause` and isn't silently dropped even if the liveness error somehow isn't an Error. Verified: a bare mid-body cleanup() throws the reworded message; eslint clean; ViewHeader unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * test(web): final comment/string polish on the auto-settle guard (round 13) Round-13 review of PR #1793 (merge-verdict; string/comment polish only): - Finding 1: the console.error text claimed the drain error was "reported as the liveness error's cause" unconditionally, but the cause is only attached when the liveness error is an Error — misleading on the very non-Error path the hoisted log exists to serve. Dropped that parenthetical so the log is true on both paths. - Nit: trimmed the now-duplicated outer comment to just the priority rationale (the inner comment, which mentions the log + instanceof conditional, is the accurate one). - Nit: guard message says "drained against a dead tree" (exact for both the before- and during-settle detach) instead of "drained nothing". - Nit: the message now names renderWithMantine.tsx rather than "the ordering note here", so it's self-contained out of context. eslint clean; ViewHeader unchanged; npm run ci green. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * test(web): correct the sequence.hooks default claim (it's "stack" in vitest 4, not "parallel") (round 14) Round-14 review of PR #1793 (merge-verdict): - Finding 1: verified against installed vitest 4.1.0 — `resolved.sequence.hooks ??= "stack"` (coverage chunk), so the runtime default is "stack"; the CLI help-text's "parallel" is stale in vitest itself. The vite.config.ts comment claimed the pin overrides a "parallel" default; corrected to say the pin is Vitest 4's own default made explicit (documents intent + guards a future default change), which is a truer reason to keep it than an override. - Nit: tied the two additions together — the post-settle check's same-level race can only arise if someone changes sequence.hooks to "parallel" (same-level hooks run sequentially under "stack"/"list"), so the pin and the post-check now reference each other rather than sitting in opposed positions. ViewHeader unchanged; npm run ci green. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * test(web): document the isolate:true dependency (empirically confirmed) + fix pre-check-blindness wording (round 15) Round-15 review of PR #1793 (merge-verdict; comment-only): - Finding 1: the auto-settle's module-level afterEach depends on isolate:true (the default) to re-register per test file; under isolate:false the module evaluates once per worker and the hook binds to only the first importing file, so other files arm with no consuming hook — the drain silently never runs and the state leaks across files. Reproduced it (vitest --no-isolate --pool=threads --no-file-parallelism over two real-transitions files leaves one file's arming unconsumed) and documented the assumption + the onTestFinished escape hatch on the arming-state comment. - Nit: the "sequence.hooks is why the pre-check can't see the concurrent detach" clause was wrong — the pre-check is blind because it runs synchronously before the await (a property of where it sits, not the hook mode). Reworded to state that, and that the concurrent case *additionally* needs sequence.hooks: "parallel". ViewHeader unchanged; npm run ci green. chore: close a batch of quality-gate & tidy gaps (#1785 #1787 #1789 #1790 #1767) (#1792)
* chore: close a batch of quality-gate & tidy gaps (#1785 #1787 #1789 #1790 #1767) Bundles five small, related tidy/gate items into one PR: - #1785: delete the dead src/types/navigation.ts InspectorTab (0 importers; duplicated/drifted from utils/inspectorTabs InspectorTabId). src/types/ now holds only ambient .d.ts stubs. - #1787: add src/hooks/** to the web coverage `include` (it was silently outside the ≥90 gate) and add tests for the two untested hooks, useServerJsonImport and useImportClientConfig, bringing every hook to ≥90 on lines/statements/functions/branches. - #1789: widen clients/{cli,tui,launcher} format/format:check to their top-level configs; add root format:shared / format:check:shared covering test-servers/src/**, vitest.shared.mts, and the repo-root eslint.config.js. - #1790: pin prettier to an exact version (3.8.4, dropping the ^3.8.1 caret) in all five package.json files so the format gate's verdict can't shift with an in-range patch bump; lockfiles synced. - #1767: its root-file format+lint gap is closed here (format:shared + a new lint:shared via a second files block in the root eslint.config.js; web/server/ was already gated in #1788). Its larger cli/tui __tests__ typecheck piece (76 type errors) is split out to #1791. Prettier-normalized the newly-covered files (pure formatting). No runtime behavior change. `npm run ci` green. Closes #1785 Closes #1787 Closes #1789 Closes #1790 Closes #1767 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * chore: address PR #1792 review findings - #1789 gap: widen clients/web format to include .storybook and clients/ launcher format to include scripts/; reformat the 3 .storybook files (were non-conforming under the pinned prettier 3.8.4). Audited all 885 tracked source files — now fully prettier-clean. - Export VALIDATE_DEBOUNCE_MS / COLLAPSE_DELAY_MS / HIGHLIGHT_DURATION_MS from useServerJsonImport and use them in the test instead of hardcoded 300/1000/250 (so a tuned constant can't silently desync the test). - Assert the symmetric renameErrors["alpha"] alongside ["beta"] so a one-directional collision-check regression fails. - Comment the blank-rename test as exercising a UI-unreachable defensive branch (canImport gates submit). - Un-stale the two specification/v2_ux_interfaces_plan.md references to the now-removed navigation.ts InspectorTab. npm run ci green. The durable, standing version of #1789's one-shot audit; negative-tested. - Obs 3: bring src/theme/** under the coverage gate (21/23 files were already ≥90 transitively; add Paper.test.tsx for the one laggard, Paper.ts). src/App.tsx (~4.5k lines, ~42% branches) is converted from a silent omission into an explicit, documented exclusion (comment on the coverage `include` + AGENTS.md) — gating it is a dedicated effort, not a whitelist tweak. npm run ci green (the new guard reports 885/885 tracked source files gated). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * chore: address PR #1792 round-4 findings (guard hardening, docs, exclusion list) - Harden verify-format-coverage: only harvest format:check globs from scripts transitively reachable from `validate` (via npm run refs), so an unwired/renamed format:check no longer counts as coverage. Negative-tested — renaming clients/web format:check to an unreferenced name now fails the guard (627 files flagged) instead of passing. - Name src/main.tsx and src/index.ts (browser + bin bootstraps) alongside src/App.tsx in the coverage-include comment and AGENTS.md, so the documented exclusion list is complete rather than claiming App.tsx is the only one. - Doc sync: document verify:format-coverage (AGENTS.md + README script table + scripts/ layout line), fix the `validate` ordering (verify:format- coverage now runs before validate:core) in AGENTS.md and README, and update the quoted globs to the uniform *.{ts,tsx, mts, cts,js,jsx, mjs, cjs} / test-servers *.{ts,tsx,mts,cts}. npm run ci green. Negative-tested. - eslint.config.js: widen the shared `files` block to test-servers/src/**/*.{ts,tsx,mts,cts} to match the widened lint:shared glob, so a future .mts/.cts there is lint-gated, not just prettier-gated. - AGENTS.md: scope the "uniform extension set" claim to client globs (core stays {ts,tsx}, shared {ts,tsx, mts, cts}), with verify:format-coverage as the backstop — removing the self-contradiction with the line below. npm run ci green. chore(web): format-gate the ungated first-party TS/JS (server/, vite.config.ts, scripts/) (#1788)
* chore(web): format-gate the ungated first-party TS/JS (#1778) Prettier only covered core/ and each client's src/, leaving the web Node backend (clients/web/server/**), web top-level configs (vite.config.ts, tsup.runner.config.ts, eslint.config.js, ...), and the root build/verify tooling (scripts/**/*.mjs) ungated — so their formatting was never checked by validate/CI. eslint already reached these via `eslint .`, so this is a prettier-only gap. - clients/web format/format:check now cover src, server, and top-level *.{ts,js}, not just src. - New root format:scripts / format:check:scripts for scripts/**/*.mjs, folded into the root format and into validate:core. - Normalized the newly-covered files with prettier --write (pure formatting; no runtime change). Closes #1778 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * chore: future-proof the scripts format glob (#1778 review) Widen format:scripts / format:check:scripts from "scripts/**/*.mjs" to "scripts/**/*.{mjs,js,cjs,ts}" so a future non-.mjs file under scripts/ is auto-gated, matching the future-proof glob style clients/web now uses. refactor(web): sharpen the src/lib vs src/utils rule and move misfiled modules (#1784)
* refactor(web): sharpen src/lib vs src/utils rule and move misfiled modules (#1776) Codify the empirical rule the web client already followed loosely — utils = pure functions that compute; lib = things that instantiate, adapt, or touch the environment — in AGENTS.md and clients/web/README.md, and move the modules that sat on the wrong side of it. Moves (source + co-located test): - lib/sandbox-csp -> utils (pure CSP-string construction; type-only import) - utils/browserTabVisibility -> lib (registers visibilitychange listeners) - utils/oauthResume -> lib (reads/writes sessionStorage) - utils/clearServerOAuthState -> lib (drives live InspectorClient / OAuthStorage) Borderline audits (kept in place): pendingReauth (pure type declarations), deepLink / correlateTransportErrors / mcpNetworkHeaders / oauthUx / oauthFlow / oauthNetworkPhase (pure transforms / type-only core imports) stay in utils; downloadFile stays whole in lib (dominant side is DOM side effects). Also relocate the lone src/test/lib/downloadFile.test.ts straggler beside its source at src/lib/downloadFile.test.ts, and document the test-placement rule (side-by-side by default; src/test/ only for core/ tests, the integration project, and shared scaffolding). Pure move — no behavior change; no build/coverage config keys off the boundary. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * refactor(web): address review — fix stale paths, move customHeaders, one-way arrows (#1776) Responds to the @claude review on PR #1784: 1. Stale path references (fixed): update the four in-repo pointers left at pre-move paths — specification/v2_auth_mid_session.md (oauthResume, browserTabVisibility → lib/), and the two load-bearing sandbox security comments (sandbox_proxy.html, sandbox-controller.ts → src/utils/sandbox-csp). 2. lib/types/customHeaders (moved): it's pure (types + pure transforms), the rule's clearest counterexample. Moved lib/types/customHeaders.{ts,test.ts} → utils/ (no external importers; only its own test) and removed the undocumented lib/types/ subdir. Documented that utils/ is the home for pure shared domain types + their constructors — no separate types/ bucket. 3. One-way arrows (item 3): declare OAuthResumeAuthKind in utils/pendingReauth and re-export it from lib/oauthResume, so the only cross-directory arrow now points lib → utils. Codified that invariant in AGENTS.md. Wording nit: AGENTS.md + README now state diagnostic logging (console.warn/error) doesn't count as a side effect for the utils rule. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * docs: address review round 2 — stale customHeaders refs, rule wording (#1776) Doc-only follow-up to the round-2 @claude review on PR #1784 (no code changed): 1. Stale paths (same class as round-1 item 1): the customHeaders move left three references to the deleted lib/types/customHeaders.ts path in specification/ (v2_ux_interfaces_phase_0_4_inventory.md, v2_ux_interfaces_plan.md ×2) — updated to utils/customHeaders.ts. 2. customHeaders anchor: note in AGENTS.md that its shape is staged for ServerSettingsForm (per v2_ux_interfaces_plan.md), so its zero-importer state reads as intentional rather than rot; kept as the no-types/-bucket illustration and led the anchor list with load-bearing modules. 3. Type-only-import clause: split the conflated clause — a type-only import (pendingReauth) and re-exporting core's pure functions/constants (oauthUx/oauthFlow) are distinct reasons to stay in utils; what makes a module lib is wrapping core's stateful runtime. Fixed in both AGENTS.md and the web README. Cosmetic: re-padded the v2_auth_mid_session.md table row to column width. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * docs: address review round 3 — scope the "no types/ bucket" claim (#1776) Doc-only follow-up to the round-3 @claude review on PR #1784 (no code changed): 1. "no separate types/ bucket" overreached: clients/web/src/types/ does exist (navigation.ts + react-syntax-highlighter .d.ts ambient stubs wired via tsconfig.app.json paths). Scoped the claim in both AGENTS.md and the web README to "no types/ sub-bucket INSIDE lib/utils", and noted src/types/ is for ambient .d.ts stubs, not domain types. 2. README example list drifted from AGENTS.md's round-2 load-bearing anchors — realigned it (inspectorTabs/mcpNetworkHeaders, dropped the zero-importer customHeaders from the headline list). 3. Clarified v2_ux_interfaces_plan.md:185 so the v2 path reads as the copy's destination, not as the v1.5 source location. Follow-up filed as #1785 (board Todo): src/types/navigation.ts InspectorTab is dead and duplicates utils/inspectorTabs.ts — kept out of this pure-move PR. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * docs: address review round 4 — reconcile src/types/ claim with #1785 (#1776) Doc-only follow-up to the round-4 @claude review on PR #1784 (no code changed): The round-3 scope fix overshot: it asserted src/types/ holds "not domain types at all", but the dead navigation.ts InspectorTab is a plain-.ts domain type still living there, and specification/v2_ux_interfaces_plan.md:181-182 actively prescribes placing InspectorTab there — so AGENTS.md and that spec doc gave opposite guidance about the same directory. - AGENTS.md + web README: softened to "not the place for new domain types" and added a parenthetical that the one lingering domain type (dead navigation.ts) is tracked for removal in #1785; until then a pure domain type belongs in utils/, not src/types/. - v2_ux_interfaces_plan.md:181: marked the tab-enum placement guidance as superseded by #1785 (live type is InspectorTabId in utils/inspectorTabs.ts). Self-heals on merge of #1785. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * docs: address review round 5 — fix garbled #1785 clause, restructure utils rule (#1776) Doc-only follow-up to the round-5 @claude review on PR #1784 (no code changed): 1. Grammar (item 1): the round-4 #1785 clause read "superseding [#1785] will remove it" — a participle with no subject. Reworded to "the dead navigation.ts InspectorTab, which #1785 will remove". 2. Readability (item 2): the src/utils/ bullet had accreted into a single ~1,400-char blob across five review rounds. Promoted the carve-outs to scannable sub-bullets (Domain types / Diagnostic logging / Importing from core) and lifted the src/types/ note out to its own line, since it's a statement about a sibling directory, not about utils. AGENTS.md only; the README's parallel sentence was already clean. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * docs+config: address review round 6 — correct the coverage-glob claim (#1776) Responds to the round-6 @claude review on PR #1784: 1. "no build/coverage glob" was factually wrong (should-fix): the web coverage include in clients/web/vite.config.ts DOES enumerate src/lib/** and src/utils/**. The conclusion (a move between them is coverage-neutral) survives, but the reason was wrong. Reworded both AGENTS.md and the web README to say nothing *enforces* the boundary — no path alias, and the include lists both dirs so a move is coverage-neutral — plus the important whitelist caveat: a module outside components/lib/utils/server falls out of the ≥90 gate entirely. 2. Removed a pre-existing duplicate glob in vite.config.ts (src/lib/**/*.{ts,tsx} appeared twice, lines 161 and 163). Inert (vitest de-dupes) but it sat three lines from the config the doc now describes. Nits: gave the README bullet the same round-5 sub-bullet restructure as AGENTS.md, and made its #1785 reference a real markdown link (bare #N doesn't autolink in rendered repo markdown). npm run ci green (config change re-verified through coverage + smokes + Storybook). build(web): fail vite build on a browser-externalized Node built-in (#1769) (#1777)
* build(web): fail vite build on a browser-externalized Node built-in (#1769) Vite 8 (rolldown) externalizes a node:* / Node built-in that reaches the browser graph with a warning and ships a `module.exports = {}` stub — the build still succeeds, shipping a broken bundle. The runtime browser smoke (smoke:web:browser, #1615) only catches the subset where that stub is *called* at module init; a stub imported but never called ships silently and nothing gates it. Add a Vite build plugin that turns that specific browser-externalization warning into a hard `vite build` error, moving detection upstream into `npm run build` / `validate` and additionally catching the never-called case the runtime smoke can't see. - clients/web/server/browser-externalized-builtin-gate.ts: Vite-agnostic detection + error + per-build state machine (unit-tested to the ≥90 gate). - vite.config.ts: thin Vite wiring. A throw inside rolldown's onLog is swallowed (the one hook where it doesn't abort — verified against vite@8.0.0), so the gate records the warning in onLog and re-throws in buildEnd. Scoped to `vite build` (apply: 'build'); the Node runner build (tsup) is unaffected. - scripts/verify-build-gate.mjs + verify:build-gate (in npm run ci and the GitHub workflow): runs a real build with a node:fs probe and asserts it fails via the gate — the only check that catches the warning phrasing drifting in a future Vite bump and silently disabling the message-keyed gate. There is no stable log `code` on the rolldown warning (only message + plugin), so the gate keys off the documented message phrasing; the drift guard above is what keeps that safe across Vite versions. smoke:web:browser stays as the runtime backstop. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * build(web): harden the browser-externalized-builtin gate per review (#1769) Review follow-ups on PR #1777: - Per-build state: add gate.reset() called from the plugin's buildStart, so a `vite build --watch` rebuild doesn't inherit a prior build's recorded warning (the plugin instance is reused across rebuilds). Makes the docblock true. - buildEnd(error) now only asserts on the success path — rolldown also calls buildEnd(error) when the build already failed for another reason, and throwing then would mask that real error with the #1769 message. - verify-build-gate.mjs: drop the shell `rm -rf` cache-clear entirely (verified the gate fires reliably without it — the earlier "caching" symptom was the onLog-swallow behavior, not a stale cache); add a result.error spawn-failure check so a missing `npx` isn't misdiagnosed as "not via the gate"; add SIGINT/SIGTERM handlers so an interrupt during the multi-minute build still restores the mutated entry; add a progress log before the spawn. - Match the double-quote style of the sibling server/ files. - Docs: list browser-externalized-builtin-gate.ts in the AGENTS.md server/ block and the clients/web/README server/ list (with why a build helper lives under server/), and add verify-build-gate to the root README scripts/ line. Guard the entry read so a renamed main.tsx fails through fail() with an actionable message. On a botched restore, save the captured original to a sidecar .bak and point there instead of recommending `git checkout --`, which would discard uncommitted edits. - AGENTS.md: fix the muddled CI-steps sentence (GitHub CI runs the whole chain as separate steps, Storybook last) and note the applyToEnvironment client-only scoping in the gate prose. The old message hard-coded "phrasing drifted", which misdirects for the config-regression class this script exists to catch. Added applyToEnvironment to the docblock's config-regression list too. - Bound the build with a 10-min spawnSync timeout (+ SIGKILL); a timeout sets result.error (ETIMEDOUT) and reports via the existing branch, instead of burning to the GitHub job's 360-min default with no output. - Guard the probe write so a read-only/EACCES checkout fails through fail() with an actionable message instead of escaping as a raw stack. - SIGTERM now exits 143 (was 130, which is SIGINT's code). Without it, a stale KNOWN_PHRASE after a phrasing update would make the three-way diagnosis misreport a plugin-not-applying regression as a phrasing drift — the exact misdirection the diagnosis exists to avoid. - Make the .bak safety net reachable on the path that needs it most: restoreEntry now catches its own write failure and routes to a shared saveBackupAndFail helper, instead of letting the write escape the finally as a raw stack (which skipped the .bak fallback and left the probe injected in the entry). - Add the fourth "plugin isn't applying" cause to the diagnosis: a future Vite emitting the warning before the client env's buildStart reset clears it (same symptom as the other three). - Flag once, on the failing-check path, that clients/web/dist holds a probe build so a local debugger doesn't serve it unaware. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * build(web): round-6 review polish — verify-build-gate literal contracts (#1769) All in scripts/verify-build-gate.mjs; one theme — the literals the script asserts on can each go stale independently of what they mirror: - Success key: assert on the gate's distinctive thrown-error prefix "Build failed (#1769)", not a bare "#1769". The issue number also appears in vite.config.ts comments, so a code frame from an unrelated build error there could otherwise make the check report OK with the gate dead — the one direction it must never get wrong (a false pass hiding a dead gate). - Drift guard now anchors on the BROWSER_EXTERNALIZED_BUILTIN_PHRASE assignment (regex) instead of a whole-file substring match, so the old wording lingering in a comment can't mask a changed constant; and its readFileSync of the gate module is guarded so a moved file fails through fail() actionably. - Extract PROBE_MODULE ("node:fs") used to build both the PROBE and the diagnosis check + messages, so changing the probe module can't silently misroute a phrasing-drift failure into "probe never reached the graph". - Comment the load-bearing diagnosis order (phrase before module-name). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * build(web): round-7 review polish — drift-guard both mirrored literals (#1769) - Extract ERROR_PREFIX ("Build failed (#1769)") and drift-guard it against the gate module too, and use it as the success key. Previously only KNOWN_PHRASE was guarded; the prefix is mirrored across the same TS/.mjs boundary for the same reason, so rewording the gate's thrown error would make a correctly-firing gate report "the build broke for another reason" (benign direction, but the same misdirection the other guards close). - Write the restore-failure .bak under the OS temp dir, not next to the entry: a sidecar inside src/ is untracked and a `git add -A` (likely while recovering) would sweep it into a commit. - Branch-(b) remediation now says update BOTH the gate constant AND KNOWN_PHRASE, so a phrasing-drift fix lands in one pass instead of tripping the drift guard on the next run. - Note next to BROWSER_EXTERNALIZED_BUILTIN_PHRASE that it must stay a single string literal (the script's drift guard anchors a regex on the assignment). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * build(web): round-8 review polish — safe recovery path + structural onLog order (#1769) - saveBackupAndFail no longer claims a backup it may not have written: it tracks whether the write succeeded and only points the user at the .bak in that case (otherwise it says the probe is still injected and to restore from VCS). Uses mkdtempSync for a unique dir instead of a fixed tmp filename, so a pre-existing/foreign-owned /tmp file can't make the recovery message point at someone else's content. - Guard the restore-verification readFileSync too, routing a failure through saveBackupAndFail so the whole restore path is uniformly safe (a raw throw there would skip the backup net). - vite.config.ts: enforce: 'pre' on the gate plugin so it runs ahead of the normal-plugin group in the onLog chain — a plugin whose onLog returns false filters the log for later plugins, so trailing the array would let a future log-filtering plugin silently blind the gate. Makes "the gate sees every log" structural rather than array-position-dependent. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * build(web): round-9 review polish — prove the gate fired on the probe (#1769) The success key confirmed the #1769 gate fired, but not that OUR probe tripped it. If the repo already leaked a Node built-in, the gate would fire on that and the script would report OK even if the probe was tree-shaken or entryPath went stale — branch (c)'s failure silently inverted into a pass. Add an assertion that PROBE_MODULE appears among the gate's embedded offender warnings. Unreachable inside `npm run ci` (validate's build:web fails first on a pre-existing leak), but this script is a documented standalone command — run exactly when debugging a leak, the case where this mattered. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * build(web): round-10 review polish — roll back a partial probe write (#1769) The probe writeFileSync uses the default 'w' flag (truncates at open), so a mid-write ENOSPC/EIO could leave clients/web/src/main.tsx empty or half-written — and its catch called fail() directly, the one path on this script that could destroy the entry rather than merely dirty it (every other read/write is already routed into the recovery net). Call restoreEntry() in that catch to roll the partial write back (falling through to the .bak net if the restore itself can't write), and correct the comment that claimed a write failure happens "before any mutation". Also widen the enforce:'pre' comment to note it orders ahead of Vite's core plugins too (harmless — the gate defines no resolve/load/transform). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * build(web): round-11 review polish — don't let the rollback swallow the write error (#1769) Round 10's restoreEntry() in the probe-write catch swallowed the primary error: restoreEntry() on its own write failure calls saveBackupAndFail → fail → exit, so the "could not write the probe" diagnosis never ran when the rollback also failed — which is exactly the read-only-checkout / ENOSPC case (both writes fail at open). On a read-only checkout nothing was ever written, yet the developer was told the restore failed and pointed at a /tmp backup of an untouched file. Roll back inline instead: attempt the restore without exiting, track whether it succeeded, then always report the PRIMARY write error, appending "restore from version control" only when the rollback didn't take. Also pin the "Build failed (#1769)" error prefix as contiguous in a single string fragment (a comment symmetric with the phrase pin), since verify-build-gate.mjs drift-guards on it as ERROR_PREFIX. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * build(web): round-12 review polish — don't let the pin comment defeat its own guard (#1769) The round-11 pin comment quoted "Build failed (#1769)" verbatim, so the prefix appeared twice in the gate module and verify-build-gate.mjs's whole-file includes(ERROR_PREFIX) drift guard passed on the comment alone — rewording the thrown error would have kept the guard green while a correctly-firing gate reported "the build broke for another reason." Reworded the comment to not repeat the full lead (matching how the phrase pin avoids repeating its phrase); the literal now occurs exactly once, restoring the guard's meaning. Also make the probe-write recovery message factual instead of inferred: read the entry back and only warn "restore from version control" when it actually differs from the original. On a read-only checkout both writes fail at open, so the file is untouched and the old hedge needlessly implied damage. Tools: x-mcp-header annotation tooling + -32602 unknown-tool rendering (#1632) (#1735)
* Tools: x-mcp-header annotation tooling + -32602 unknown-tool rendering (#1632) Card 9/10 of the SDK-v2 + New Spec stack. Adds SEP-2243 `x-mcp-header` tooling to the Tools tab and adjusts result rendering for SDK v2's unknown-tool behavior, and bumps the SDK to 2.0.0-beta.5. - **`core/json/xMcpHeader.ts`**: a faithful port of the SDK's (non-public) `scanXMcpHeaderDeclarations` — validates every SEP-2243 constraint (primitive types incl. `number`, RFC 9110 token, case-insensitive uniqueness, statically-reachable `properties`-only chain) and derives the mirrored `Mcp-Param-{Name}` params for a kept tool. - **Excluded tools**: the SDK silently drops tools with invalid annotations from `tools/list`. InspectorClient now re-lists the RAW (unfiltered) list and scans it to recompute the excluded set with reasons — gated to the modern non-stdio era (matching the SDK's gate), recomputed on every aggregate refresh, surfaced via a new `excludedToolsChange` event + `getExcludedTools()` and `useInspectorClient().excludedTools`. The Tools sidebar lists them struck-through under an "Excluded (SEP-2243)" divider with the reason on hover. - **Mirrored args**: ToolDetailPanel shows a "Mirrored request headers" section listing each arg → `Mcp-Param-{Name}` (with the browser-omits note). - **-32602 rendering**: SDK v2 rejects an unknown-tool call with `-32602` instead of an `isError` result, which previously rendered nothing. New ToolCallErrorPanel renders a thrown tool-call error, with a targeted "Unknown Tool" hint for `-32602`. Adds unit + Storybook + integration coverage (a real modern server with an invalid-header tool fixture) for every path. `npm run ci`-equivalent checks green. Closes #1632 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * test-servers: x-mcp-header modern showcase config + preset (#1632) Register the `invalid_header_tool` fixture as a preset and add `xmcpheader-modern-http.json` — a modern HTTP showcase serving echo, a valid-header `get_weather`, and the invalid-header tool — so the Tools-tab x-mcp-header tooling (mirrored headers, excluded-tools surface, -32602 rendering) can be exercised manually. Replace `isUnknownToolError` with `classifyToolCallError(code, message)` → "unknown-tool" only when the message names it (not found / unknown tool / …), else "invalid-params" (new "Invalid Parameters" heading + schema hint), else "generic". 2. Double pagination walk: expand the `listAllTools` comment to document that the excluded-tools recompute is a deliberately un-cached second raw walk (doubles list round-trips on modern non-stdio, runs even on a cache-served aggregate) — accepted for a debugging tool, no-op on legacy/stdio. 3. Doc nit: `scanXMcpHeaderDeclarations` no longer claims to visit "$ref targets" — reworded to note `$ref` is never followed (refs resolve into the unreachable `$defs` body). 4. Search nit: the excluded-list filter now matches name AND title, matching the main tools filter. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * Tighten unknown-tool matcher to be tool-scoped (#1632 re-review nit) The re-review noted the -32602 disambiguation was symmetric: broad markers ("does not exist", "unrecognized") could inversely mislabel a genuine invalid-params message (e.g. "property 'region' does not exist") as "Unknown Tool". Scope the not-found/does-not-exist family to require the word "tool" in the same clause (matching the SDK's "Tool <name> not found"); keep "unknown tool" / "no such tool" as standalone unambiguous markers. Adds a tool-less-"does not exist" test asserting it classifies as invalid-params. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01XNdjEPKLG637X8YmhDiEk5 * Add trigger_invalid_params showcase tool + Invalid Parameters screenshot (#1632) Adds a `trigger_invalid_params` spec-error trigger to the modern showcase server: the injector answers its `tools/call` with a real `-32602 Invalid params` JSON-RPC error whose message does NOT name an unknown tool. This lets the "Invalid Parameters" branch of the tool-call error panel (added in the review response) be exercised live, distinct from the unknown-tool `-32602`. - `SPEC_ERROR_TRIGGERS` gains the `trigger_invalid_params` entry (HTTP 200, in-band -32602) + preset registration. - Enable `injectSpecErrors` on `xmcpheader-modern-http.json` and add the tool. - README + pr-screenshots README document it; adds the live "Invalid Parameters" proof screenshot. SDK v2 migration (behavior-neutral, versionNegotiation: 'legacy') (#1624)
Migrate all three clients + core + test-servers from
@modelcontextprotocol/sdk@1.29 to SDK v2 (2.0.0-beta.4), keeping behavior
identical against legacy (2025-11-25) servers. Foundation for the SDK V2 +
New Spec stack.
Packages
- Split @modelcontextprotocol/sdk -> @modelcontextprotocol/client (Client,
transports, OAuth, error taxonomy, protocol types) + core (Zod schemas);
stdio -> client/stdio, Ajv -> client/validators/ajv. Test-servers ->
@modelcontextprotocol/server (+ server-legacy/sse). Deterministic import
rewrite (schemas -> core, everything else -> client); the codemod misroutes
client code to /server so it was not used for path routing.
- new Client(..., { versionNegotiation: { mode: 'legacy' } }) — nothing
2026-era goes on the wire.
Runtime (core/mcp/inspectorClient.ts)
- Error taxonomy: McpError -> ProtocolError, ErrorCode -> ProtocolErrorCode;
RequestTimeout -> SdkError/SdkErrorCode.
- Handlers take method strings; task methods (tasks/*, notifications/tasks/*)
use the 3-arg custom form (excluded from v2's spec-method set).
- Legacy tasks kept working (per project requirement): requestor tasks re-
implemented over raw client.request + explicit deprecated schemas;
experimental.tasks.callToolStream replaced by a local pollTaskToolCall
async generator (with _progressHandlers revival so task-execution progress
still reaches the caller). Receiver (server-initiated) tasks: the v2 Client
validates a sampling/elicit handler result and rejects the legacy { task }
response with -32602 — installReceiverTaskResponseBypass swaps the wrapped
entry in the private _requestHandlers map for the task-augmented branch so
{ task } reaches the wire (fixes server-initiated sampling-via-task).
- Pagination: list verbs use raw client.request({method}, List*ResultSchema)
for single-page behavior (v2's client.listX() auto-aggregate all pages).
Web / auth / apps
- Rename local JsonSchemaType -> InspectorFormSchema + add toFormSchema()
structural narrowing at the SDK-schema -> form boundary.
- ext-apps still peers on SDK v1: one compat boundary with documented casts
(remove when ext-apps#702 lands a v2 peer).
- OAuth provider saveClientInformation reconciled with v2's
OAuthClientInformationContext; InvalidClientMetadataError re-homed as a
local class (server-legacy/auth is not browser-safe).
- vitest.shared.mts dedupes @modelcontextprotocol/client+core to one copy so
vi.mock intercepts the SUT's import.
Accepted v2 behavior changes (per #1624 / spec §9.2): unknown-tool call
rejects with -32602; cancellation is stream-abort (no guaranteed
notifications/cancelled frame); output-schema strictness restored via the
Inspector's own Ajv check on the default path.
npm run ci green: validate (web 3087 / cli 212 / tui 274 / launcher 5),
coverage (>=90 per-file, all clients), smoke (launcher/cli/web), storybook
(410).

refactor(version): single-source the version from the root package.json
The Inspector ships as one package with one version, but four client package.jsons each carried their own `version` and were read at runtime (cli.ts, tui App.tsx), and core hardcoded a third, stale value (0.20.0) that the TUI and web actually reported to servers. Consolidate onto the root package.json as the single source of truth. - Add core/node/version.ts: shared, Node-only readInspectorVersion() that walks up to the root package.json (always shipped in the tarball). 100% covered by a new integration test. - CLI and TUI read the version via the shared reader instead of their own manifest; TUI now also passes a real clientIdentity (was falling through to the stale core default). - Drop the `version` field from all four client package.jsons; the root keeps the only version. TUI header name/description become local display constants. - core default client identity: replace the stale 0.20.0 hardcode with a neutral 0.0.0 placeholder (real clients pass clientIdentity; web will source its version from GET /api/config, see #1639). - Stop shipping clients/cli/package.json and clients/tui/package.json (no longer read at runtime) — supersedes the earlier "ship them" fix; update pack:verify and the root README packaging invariants accordingly. - Add core/node/** to the web coverage include so the new module is gated. - Add the shared-code architecture diagram to the root README. test(web): gate src/lib/** under the coverage include globs (closes #1594)
Broaden the web vitest `coverage.include` from the single-file
`src/lib/sandbox-csp.{ts,tsx}` entry to `src/lib/**/*.{ts,tsx}` so the
per-file >=90 four-dimension gate applies to every library module under
`src/lib`, not just sandbox-csp.
- Add unit tests for the previously-ungated `environmentFactory.ts`
(createWebEnvironment) and `types/customHeaders.ts` value helpers,
bringing both to 100% on all four dimensions.
- Annotate downloadFile.ts's provably-dead `?? ""` fallback (String.split
always returns a non-empty array so .pop() is never undefined) with a
justified `v8 ignore`, closing its last uncovered branch (92.3 -> 100).
All five src/lib files now report 100/100/100/100.

feat(web): add sandbox CSP builder library (closes #1558)
Add a pure, DOM-free CSP-builder library at clients/web/src/lib/sandbox-csp.ts that validates app-supplied `_meta.ui.csp` requests, filters them to safe sources, builds the locked-down Content-Security-Policy string, and wraps untrusted widget HTML in a fixed host shell whose first <head> child is the CSP meta. - SAFE_CSP_SOURCE: strict regex that rejects directive/attribute breakouts (`;`, `"`, `<`, `>`, whitespace). - approveCspSources(): drops unsafe entries (with a warning) and omits empty keys; echoes back only what the host will enforce. - buildSandboxCspPolicy(): `default-src 'none'` catch-all, `form-action 'none'`, source-allowlist filtering, `'unsafe-inline'` for the app's own inline script/style. - escapeHtmlAttr() / wrapSandboxedHtml(): defense-in-depth so untrusted bytes never precede the applied policy. Re-implements the sandbox-csp portion of PR #1510 (Wave 1 of #1579) as a standalone library; wiring into the app bridge is a follow-up issue. Adds full unit tests (100% lines/statements/functions/branches) and lists the file in the web coverage `include` so it is gated (the untested legacy src/lib siblings stay out until they get tests). Guided-auth removal, OAuth smoke testing, and TUI/CLI support (#1531)
* refactor(web): update OAuth E2E tests to use new authentication method - Replaced `runGuidedAuth` with `authenticate` in the InspectorClient OAuth end-to-end tests to support quick authentication with CIMD pre-registration. - Updated comments to reflect the change in authentication method and its support for HTTP test metadata URLs. - Ensured that the tests continue to validate the expected authorization URL after the change. Additionally, imported `ensureCimdClientRegistration` in the OAuthManager to streamline client registration during the authentication process. * Guided-auth removal, OAuth smoke testing, and TUI/CLI support * Added CLI OAuth runner flags tests * Added clarifying comment on port 0 binding * README notes on TUI oauth callback port, prettier fixes for CLI tests * CIMD validation uses inline like EMA IdP * Fixed TUI test failures from merge * test: bring 5 OAuth files over the 90 per-file coverage gate The guided-auth-removal work added/touched several files that fell below the repo's >=90 per-file coverage gate (npm run coverage). CI doesn't run the gate (it's local-only), so validate + test:integration passed while these gaps slipped through. Bring them all back over the line: - core/auth/node/runner-oauth-callback.ts: test bad-URL/non-http-scheme throws, no-port->80 default, and IPv6 hostname bracketing. Annotate the provably-dead guards (empty host, out-of-range port, String(err) fallback, pathname "/" fallback) -- all rejected by new URL() upstream -- with justified v8 ignore comments instead of lowering the gate. - core/auth/cimd.ts: test the AS-doesn't-support-CIMD early return. - core/react/useClientSettingsDraft.ts: test the functional-updater path, the stale-onChange-after-close prev===null guard, and the timer-fires-after-close value===null guard. - ClientSettingsForm.tsx: test the CIMD checkbox toggle and CIMD URL clear. - clients/tui/src/utils/oauthDisplay.ts: test static/dcr registration kinds, the expired IdP session, and the configured-scope/empty-scope branches of formatScopes. npm run coverage now passes (exit 0) across web, cli, tui, launcher. test: raise per-file coverage gate to 90 across all clients (closes #1271) (#1532)
* test(web): audit branch-coverage outliers, raise per-file gate to 70 (#1271) The web per-file coverage gate had drifted red: the recently-landed EMA auth feature (core/auth/ema/*) and ClientSettings components shipped undertested, and the prior 50% branch floor let business-logic branches go untested. CI does not run the coverage gate, so this accumulated. Add tests to bring every failing file above the gate and push branch coverage well past 70 across the board, then raise the per-file branches threshold 50 -> 70 in clients/web/vite.config.ts. - EMA core (emaFlow, resourceContext, jwt, wire): 50-88% -> 86-100% branch - EMA OIDC/transport (idpOidc, tokenEndpoint, transportProvider): -> 97-100% - oauthManager / discovery: 73-83% -> 88-92% - ClientSettingsModal/Form, ConnectionInfoContent: 0-88% -> 96-100% - useClientSettingsDraft / useEmaIdpLoginState hooks: 20% -> 100% - TaskStatusBadge / SortableServerCard outliers: 50% -> 100% Coverable branches reached by mocking useComputedColorScheme (dark theme), dnd-kit useSortable (isDragging), and fetch/OIDC paths. Remaining sub-100 branches are genuinely-unreachable defensive guards or happy-dom-inherent (portal / useMediaQuery / typeof window) and documented in test comments. No source files changed. Global web branch coverage 88.73% -> 90.63%. AGENTS.md updated; cli/tui/launcher stay at 50 (out of scope). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * test: raise per-file coverage gate to 90/90/90/90 across all clients Follows the #1271 web branch-coverage audit (50 -> 70) by raising the whole per-file gate to >=90 on all four dimensions — lines, statements, functions, branches — for web, cli, tui, and launcher (core/ is measured under the web suite). A codebase-wide audit added real tests for every outlier and brought global coverage up across the board. Config: all four vitest/vite coverage configs set to 90/90/90/90. Two pure-type modules (core/mcp/import/types.ts, clients/web/server/ types.ts) added to the web coverage exclude list, matching the existing type-only exclusions. Tests: ~50 test files extended/created across core (auth, ema, mcp, remote, state, storage, react), web components/screens/server, and the cli/tui clients. Highlights: full EMA OAuth flow + transport coverage, inspectorClient/remote server backfill, every Mantine control's handler branches, and the cli unsupported-method / argv-fallback paths. Genuinely-unreachable branches are annotated at the source with justified `/* v8 ignore -- <reason> */` comments rather than lowering the gate: happy-dom-inherent paths (Mantine portal, useMediaQuery, typeof window SSR guards), React StrictMode effect replay, and provably-dead defensive guards (?? fallbacks the types make impossible, Select.onChange values outside the allowed list). No runtime logic changed; the only structural edits are two behavior-preserving refactors (ResourceTemplatePanel hoists the field value to a local so the ignore applies in JSX; ToolsScreen swaps a ternary for an if) and prettier line-wrapping. Also fixed a flaky real-timer debounce assertion in PromptArgumentsForm (asserted an exact sibling-typing interleaving that raced the 300ms debounce; now asserts the load-bearing fact — a non-empty fire-time sibling capture). AGENTS.md updated to describe the uniform 90 gate and the v8-ignore policy. All four client coverage gates, root validate, storybook (370), and smoke pass. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(web): make connect-crash SSE reader stop on the terminal event `readSseEvents` looped until the server closed the stream (`done`). The server closes the events stream immediately after writing the terminal `transport_error`, but under the heavy parallel scheduler pressure of a full `coverage` run (v8 instrumentation across all workers) that close can lag far enough behind the event to trip the 30s test timeout — a hang, not a wrong result. This made the test intermittently fail under `npm run coverage` (it passed in isolation and under CI's lighter `test:integration`). Stop reading as soon as the terminal `transport_error` event arrives (cancelling the reader) instead of waiting only for `done`. That event is always the last one the session queue emits, so nothing is lost, and the test no longer depends on stream-close timing. The `done` break is kept for any stream that closes first. Verified green across two consecutive full `npm run test:coverage` runs (3094 tests) where it previously hung, plus isolation (~0.5s). refactor: self-validating clients, fast validate + separate coverage/smoke (#1504) (#1505)
* refactor(launcher): self-contained validate; split smokes into top-level step (#1504) Previously `validate:launcher` built cli/tui/web and ran the cross-client smokes, so the launcher's "validation" depended on every other client being built — and the launcher had no lint/format/coverage of its own. - clients/launcher: add a web-style `validate` (format:check && lint && build && test:coverage) with a Node-only eslint flat config, prettier, and a per-file coverage gate (parse-launcher-argv.ts covered; src/index.ts excluded as binary bootstrap). 100% on the gated file. - Root `validate:launcher` now just delegates: `cd clients/launcher && npm run validate` — no dependency on the other clients. - New top-level `smoke` step (smoke:launcher + smoke:cli + smoke:tui + smoke:web) with NO build commands; `validate` runs it last. Each client's own validation builds its bundle first, so nothing builds twice (cli/tui via test:coverage, launcher via its validate; smoke:web builds dist on demand). - clients/tui test:coverage now builds the TUI bundle (mirroring cli) so the build-free smoke has it available. - CI: replace the standalone cli/tui/launcher build step with a "Validate launcher" step. Docs updated (AGENTS.md, launcher README). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * refactor(cli, tui, root): every client self-validates; smoke separate from validate Extends the launcher self-validate work to the CLI and TUI, and makes the top-level `validate` nothing but the per-client validations — smokes are now a separate top-level target. - clients/cli, clients/tui: add a web-style `validate` with a Node flat eslint config + prettier. CLI lint/format pass as-is. TUI registers eslint-plugin-react-hooks for the classic rules only (rules-of-hooks + exhaustive-deps, which the source already references); the stricter react-hooks@7 rules are not enforced on the interim component surface (#1501). - Avoid double builds: - CLI's e2e spawns the built binary, so its `test:coverage` builds first; `validate` folds that in (`format:check && lint && test:coverage`, no separate `build`). - TUI tests don't spawn a bundle, so `validate` keeps an explicit `build` (for the smoke) and `test:coverage` is pure. - Root: `validate` = validate:web && validate:cli && validate:tui && validate:launcher (each delegates to the client's own validate). `smoke` is no longer part of `validate` — it's a separate top-level target run after a build/validate, with no build commands of its own. - CI: per-client "Validate X" steps + a single "Run cross-client smokes" (npm run smoke). Docs updated (AGENTS.md, cli/tui READMEs). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * chore(root): drop redundant test aggregator scripts Now that every client self-validates and the top-level `validate` chains the per-client validations, the root `test` / `test:web` / `test:cli` / `test:tui` / `test:coverage` aggregators are redundant — run `npm run validate` (all) or `cd clients/<name> && npm run validate` (one). `test:storybook` stays (it's the one check not part of validate). CI was already using each client's own scripts, so it's unaffected. Docs updated. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(web): silence happy-dom infra noise in unit runs Passing unit runs printed dozens of alarming-but-expected lines that made green runs look broken — all from happy-dom performing real I/O with no server behind it: - `<iframe src="/sandbox.html">` (MCP Apps sandbox) made happy-dom fetch and later unload that URL, emitting ~40 `DOMException [NetworkError/ AbortError]` + `AsyncTaskManager destroyed` lines. Disable child-frame navigation in the unit project (the tests only assert on the iframe element/attributes, not its document), removing the noise with no coverage loss. - App-level renders read `GET /api/config` via useSandboxUrl / useServerListWritable, 404-ing ~76x. Add a benign default `fetch` (empty 200) in the unit setup; tests that exercise fetch still override it. Negative tests that assert on errors already suppress their own console output (e.g. jsonUtils/schemaUtils); CLI, TUI, and the web integration suite were already clean. Unit suite is now noise-free; 2424 web tests pass and the coverage gate is unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * refactor(scripts): make validate fast (test), split coverage into its own target Each client's `validate` now runs `test` instead of `test:coverage`, so the everyday pre-push check skips v8 instrumentation (and, for web, the slower integration project). The per-file coverage gate moves to a dedicated top-level `coverage` script: coverage = coverage:web && coverage:cli && coverage:tui && coverage:launcher coverage:<name> = cd clients/<name> && npm run test:coverage `validate` still builds each client's bundle (cli via its test `pretest`, the others via an explicit `build`), so `npm run validate && npm run smoke` works unchanged. CI now runs `validate` (fast checks + builds), then `coverage` (the gate), then `smoke` — collapsing the old per-client steps. Docs updated. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * ci: drop the coverage gate from CI; keep web integration as its own step CI no longer runs `npm run coverage` — the per-file coverage gate is now a local/manual check (`npm run coverage` before pushing). To avoid silently dropping the web integration suite (it only ran via test:coverage, and `validate` runs the unit project only), CI gains a standalone `clients/web` `test:integration` step that exercises the real stdio/HTTP/OAuth/storage paths without coverage instrumentation. CI is now: validate (fast) → web integration → smoke → storybook. Docs updated. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * refactor(smoke): give smoke:launcher its own script like the others smoke:launcher was the odd one out — an inline chain of three `node clients/launcher/build/index.js ... --help` commands while smoke:cli / smoke:tui / smoke:web each run a `scripts/smoke-*.mjs`. Extract it to `scripts/smoke-launcher.mjs`, which runs the same `--help` / `--cli --help` / `--tui --help` dispatch checks but now also asserts each prints that mode's usage banner (proving the launcher resolved the right client build) and verifies the required builds exist up front with a clear error. Prints a `smoke:launcher OK — ...` summary in the same style as the rest. Docs updated. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * chore: reorder package.json scripts for readability Move frequently-run scripts toward the top and rarely-run-by-hand ones (pretest hooks, lint/format internals, etc.) toward the end, consistently across the root and client manifests. Pure reordering — no script names or values changed, and no other manifest content is touched. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * docs: drop references to removed root inspector / test:storybook scripts The reordering dropped the root `inspector` and `test:storybook` aggregators (intentional — `inspector` is redundant with `web`, and storybook is run from clients/web in CI). Update AGENTS.md so it no longer points at `npm run inspector`, and run `test:storybook` from `clients/web/`. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * chore: address PR #1505 review (format glob gap, fetch-baseline comment) - TUI format/format:check now also cover the client-root source files (index.ts, tui.tsx, dev.ts) that live outside src/ — `eslint .` already lints them, so they were linted but not format-checked. (cli/launcher have no source outside src/; their root .ts are single-quoted configs intentionally left out of prettier, matching web.) - Reword the setup.ts default-fetch comment: it overstated auto-restore (the unit project sets no restoreMocks/unstubGlobals), and now also flags that the permissive 200 default means a test asserting on a fetch FAILURE must install its own rejecting stub. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * chore: remove redundant root install:clients script `install:clients` ran the same `node scripts/install-clients.mjs` as `postinstall`, which fires automatically on `npm install` — so the manual alias was redundant. Drop it and the doc references (AGENTS.md, spec). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(ci): skip smoke:tui in CI (Ink needs a real TTY) This PR made CI run the full `npm run smoke`, which surfaced that smoke:tui fails in headless CI: the Ink TUI throws "Raw mode is not supported" on mount (no TTY) and exits before rendering its first frame. The old CI never ran smoke:tui, so this was latent. smoke-tui.mjs now self-skips when `process.env.CI` is set — the boot/ render check is inherently local-only (a TUI needs a terminal). The TUI is still built and unit-tested in CI; `npm run smoke` stays the single command everywhere (full locally, tui-skipped in CI). Verified `CI=true npm run smoke` is green (launcher/cli OK, tui SKIPPED, web OK). Docs + CI comment updated. fix(web): remove config-load warning filter, fix root cause (#1491) (#1494)
The `UNRESOLVED_IMPORT` warnings that `quiet-config-warnings.mjs` suppressed no longer occur, so the filter (and the build-time `onwarn` suppressions for the same three deps) are removed. Root cause: Vite's config bundler (Rolldown) statically walks the node-only dev backend (`core/mcp/remote/node/server.ts`) when it loads `vite.config.ts`, reaching `chokidar`, `atomically`, and `@napi-rs/keyring`. `core/` has no node_modules of its own, so at config-bundle time those deps resolve from `core/`'s parent chain — the repo-root `node_modules`. Before #1452 the deps lived only under `clients/web/node_modules` (a sibling, off the resolution chain), so Rolldown emitted `UNRESOLVED_IMPORT`. #1452 declared them in the repo-root `package.json` (for the CLI/TUI/launcher, which consume core/'s node code), installing them at the repo root and making them resolvable. Verified by hiding the root copy: the warning returns; restore it and the dev/build startup is clean. A dynamic import of the backend does not help — Rolldown follows dynamic imports during config bundling too. The fix is the deps being resolvable, so the suppression is just removed and the invariant is documented in `vite.config.ts`. - Remove `clients/web/server/quiet-config-warnings.mjs` + `.d.mts` and its test - Restore the `dev` script to plain `vite` (drop the `--import` hook) - Remove the now-dead `build.rollupOptions.onwarn` UNRESOLVED suppressions (never fire: the Hono plugin is `apply: 'serve'`, out of the build graph) - Document why config-bundle resolution succeeds in `vite.config.ts` - Update AGENTS.md project tree Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

feat: port CLI, TUI, and launcher from v1.5 into v2 (#1452)
Ports the CLI, TUI, and launcher from v1.5 into v2 behind a single `mcp-inspector` entrypoint (launcher → web/cli/tui). Includes the `mcp-inspector --web --dev` launcher fix (Vite alias resolution + prod-server double-start), the root `postinstall` install cascade with simplified CI, and spec/AGENTS docs (no-workspaces rationale, Development setup). feat(servers): move oauthClientSecret and stdio env values to OS keychain (#1356) (#1360)
* feat(servers): move oauthClientSecret and stdio env values to OS keychain (#1356) mcp.json is designed to be tool-shareable (symlinked from Claude Desktop's config, pasted into bug reports, synced via dotfiles), so storing OAuth client secrets and stdio env values in plaintext there meant any of those flows could leak them. Lift both into the OS keychain via @napi-rs/keyring (active replacement for the archived keytar). The wire shape is unchanged: the GET /api/servers handler rehydrates from the keychain so browser code sees the same JSON; the on-disk file no longer contains the secret material. Includes an idempotent migration that lifts plaintext from older mcp.json files (or hand-edited ones) into the keychain on first read. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(servers): tolerate keychain unavailability on non-set ops (#1356) CI on Linux failed because `@napi-rs/keyring` hard-errors without libsecret, and the route handlers were touching the keychain even for no-secret flows (defensive `deleteAllForServer` on POST/DELETE, sweep on PUT). The user's intent for the Linux fallback was "hard fail when a secret is actually involved" — not on every keychain touch. Make `KeyringSecretStore.get / delete / deleteAllForServer` silently degrade when the keychain is unavailable (return null / no-op); `set` remains the one operation that hard-fails with `KeychainUnavailableError`. The migration path catches the error and preserves the disk plaintext rather than losing the secret. Also inject `InMemorySecretStore` in `useServers.test.tsx` and `servers-events.test.ts` so tests never touch a developer's real keychain even when libsecret is present. Adds `KeyringSecretStore` tests (vi.mock'd native bindings) and an integration suite that simulates Linux-without-libsecret to verify the tolerance contract end-to-end. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(servers): close GET migration race; reverse keychain/disk order (#1356) Addresses code review: 1. **Concurrency**: GET /api/servers was reading + migrating outside the write lock, then writing inside it — a concurrent POST/PUT/DELETE between the read and the lock acquisition could be clobbered by the migration write. Also affected the first-launch seed write. Fix: take a fast unlocked peek; if the file is absent (seed branch) or carries plaintext to migrate (migration branch), re-read inside the write lock and decide there. Added `hasPlaintextSecrets()` as a pure predicate so the common no-migration path stays lock-free. 2. **Write ordering**: POST and PUT wrote disk first, then keychain. A keychain `set` failure mid-write left a half-configured entry on disk and trapped retries at 409. Reversed to keychain-first so a 503 leaves both stores in their pre-write state. PUT in-place now sets new fields, writes disk, then deletes obsolete fields (a failed disk write leaves orphan keychain entries — recoverable — rather than premature deletions of fields the user still expects to see). 3. **Tolerance simplification**: dropped the no-entry regex in `KeyringSecretStore.delete` — both "no entry" and "keychain unavailable" collapse to the same desired outcome (the entry isn't there anymore), so a uniform swallow is clearer. 4. **Parallelism**: `readKeychainEntriesFor` now `Promise.all`s the per-field `get` calls. macOS Keychain round-trips are 10-50ms; serializing 5+ env vars per server × N servers is a meaningful wall-clock cost on GET. 5. **Spec doc**: reflects the tolerance contract (only `set` hard-fails) and the keychain-before-disk write ordering rationale. New regression test in servers-route.test.ts covers the retry-after-503 contract directly. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * chore(servers): parallel keychain writes + migration partial-state comment (#1356) Two nice-to-have observations from the re-review: - `writeKeychainEntriesFor` now `Promise.all`s its per-field sets, matching the read side. No ordering requirement among distinct (id, field) keys; on unavailability every set rejects and Promise.all surfaces the first rejection (still 503 from the route handler). - `migratePlaintextSecrets` catch block now spells out the partial-migration semantics: we return the original config so the disk plaintext stays intact, and the next successful GET retries with the keychain-wins branch absorbing already-set entries. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * chore(servers): parallel keychain deletes for symmetry (#1356) Picks up the symmetry observation from the third review: `deleteKeychainFields` now uses `Promise.all` like its read and write siblings. Distinct (id, field) deletes have no ordering requirement, and `secretStore.delete` is already a silent no-op on unavailability so Promise.all has no failure-mode surprise. feat(servers): hot-reload server list on external mcp.json edits (#1345) (#1357)
* feat(servers): hot-reload server list on external mcp.json edits (#1345) Watch ~/.mcp-inspector/mcp.json from the backend and push a change event on a new /api/servers/events SSE channel. The web client subscribes via fetch + ReadableStream (so the existing bearer-auth contract is preserved — EventSource can't send custom headers) and re-fetches on each event. The watcher is lazy: it starts on the first SSE subscriber and stops when the last one disconnects, so tests that never open the channel don't spin up a real fs watcher. Self-fires from the backend's own POST/PUT/DELETE are suppressed by capturing the post-write mtime and comparing it on each watcher event. Chokidar is used for cross-platform editor-save semantics (temp-file + rename produces unlink+add sequences that bare fs.watch handles poorly on macOS/Linux); awaitWriteFinish coalesces those into a single event. createRemoteApp now returns a close() to release the watcher, which the standalone server and the vite dev plugin chain into their existing close paths. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(servers): address PR review on hot-reload (#1357) - writeMcpAndTrackMtime now stat()s the file before writing; if the mtime differs from the last value we recorded, an external editor slipped in between our writes and chokidar would coalesce both into one event whose mtime matches our own write — broadcast directly so peer subscribers learn about the external edit (review finding 1, 5). - Split useServers.refresh into a public refresh() (loading toggle) and an internal refreshInternal(background) the SSE handler calls; the list now stays visible during background refreshes instead of flashing skeleton state on every external mcp.json edit (finding 2). - Coalesce multiple \n\n frames landing in one decode chunk to a single refresh call so back-to-back broadcasts don't race two concurrent GETs whose setState order is unspecified (finding 3). - Clarify createRemoteApp's close() docblock about in-flight SSE stream callbacks (finding 7). - Add integration coverage for PUT/DELETE self-suppression and for the external-edit-between-backend-writes broadcast (finding 6). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(servers): address pass-2 review on hot-reload (#1357) - Clarify writeMcpAndTrackMtime comment so a future reader can't mistake the broadcast for a content-preservation guarantee: the external edit's content may already have been read-around and overwritten depending on the interleave with readMcpConfig. - Drop the no-op GET in the PUT/DELETE self-suppression tests. The pre-stat branch is short-circuited by `lastWrittenMtimeMs === null` with or without it; matches the POST test's structure. - Add explicit no-flicker regression test: tracks every `loading` value across renders during an SSE-driven refresh and asserts none flipped back to true. Catches a future regression that reaches for setLoading(true) in the background path even under React batching. Wire App.tsx to v2 core/ hook layer; remove demo stub from InspectorView (#1322)
* feat(web): wire App.tsx to v2 core/ hook layer; remove demo stub from InspectorView
App.tsx mounts InspectorView with live data from the v2 hook layer instead
of the title-page placeholder. InspectorView becomes pure prop-driven; the
demo handshake stub and connection state machinery are removed.
Connection lifecycle:
- App.tsx lazily instantiates `InspectorClient` on the connect edge,
rebuilding it (and its state managers) when the user picks a different
server. State managers (Managed{Tools,Prompts,Resources,ResourceTemplates,
RequestorTasks}State + MessageLog/FetchRequestLog/StderrLog) are
destroyed on switch.
- `useInspectorClient` + the per-primitive `useManaged*` hooks drive the
view's data. `latencyMs` is captured at the connecting → connected edge
via a ref so the intermediate rerenders don't lose the start timestamp.
- `errorMessage` is captured from `client.connect()` rejection; status-
machine-driven errors that don't surface through the promise are a known
follow-up (no `error` event in the v2 InspectorClientEventMap yet).
Action handlers:
- `onCallTool` / `onGetPrompt` / `onReadResource` await the corresponding
InspectorClient method and reflect pending → ok/error in `ToolCallState`
/ `GetPromptState` / `ReadResourceState` panel props. Manually verified
end-to-end against `npx @modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem` —
the Tools result panel renders the real "Allowed directories: /private/tmp"
output rather than a stub.
- `onSetLogLevel` calls `client.setLoggingLevel(level)` and optimistically
bumps `currentLogLevel` locally (the request has no echo notification).
- `onSubscribeResource` / `onUnsubscribeResource` / `onCancelTask` route to
their respective client methods. Server CRUD (`onServerAdd`/`onServerEdit`
/…) and history pinning are intentionally `todoNoop` for now; the seed
server list is hardcoded per the agreed scope (a `useServers` v2-only
hook is a separate effort).
- `notifications/message` notifications flowing through `MessageLogState`
are filtered into `LogEntryData[]` and passed to the Logs screen, so
`logging/setLevel` and the resulting log stream round-trip.
InspectorView (`InspectorView.tsx`):
- Removed: `STUB_*` constants, `handshakeTimer` ref, `handleToggleConnection`
/ `disconnect` functions, stub `bridgeFactory`/`sandboxPath`, internal
connection state, `logLevel` state.
- Added 38 props covering connection state, panel states, log level, and
action callbacks. The view is pure presentational.
- `availableTabs` is derived from `connectionStatus`; `activeTab` is
clamped to whatever's currently available (avoiding the `set-state-in-effect`
lint and keeping the previously-selected tab on reconnect).
Stories + tests:
- `InspectorView.stories.tsx` adds spy callbacks for every action prop and
new `Connected` / `ConnectionError` stories for the connected/error
narratives.
- `InspectorView.test.tsx` is rewritten around the prop-driven contract
(10 tests covering the empty list, server cards, toggle dispatch,
connected header, error banner, tab snap-back on disconnect, app
filtering, log-level dispatch, autoScroll local toggle).
Dev backend port wiring (`vite.config.ts`):
- Vite's dev server is now pinned to `CLIENT_PORT` (default 6274) with
`strictPort: true`, matching the dev backend's `allowedOrigins`. Without
this, Vite would fall back to 5173 while the Hono origin check still
required 6274 — breaking every browser `/api/*` fetch out of the box.
- Top-level `resolve.alias` now spreads the same bare-module aliases the
vitest projects use. Rolldown can't reach `pino/browser.js` /
`zustand/middleware` from `core/`'s parent (no node_modules there); the
wired App pulls those modules into the browser dep graph for the first
time, so the aliases need to be visible at build time too.
createWebEnvironment helper (`src/lib/environmentFactory.ts`):
- Mirrors v1.5's `lib/adapters/environmentFactory.ts`: builds
`InspectorClientEnvironment` from `createRemoteTransport` +
`createRemoteFetch` + `createRemoteLogger` + `BrowserOAuthStorage` +
`BrowserNavigation`. Returns the assembled environment plus the logger
for direct app-level use.
Closes #1244.

* fix(web): wire dev-backend auth token into createWebEnvironment + show full stdio command in ServerCard
Two issues surfaced after the #1244 wiring landed locally:
1. **401 on `/api/mcp/connect`** when running `npm run dev` with the
default auth (no `DANGEROUSLY_OMIT_AUTH`). The dev backend generates a
random token and prints `http://localhost:6274?MCP_INSPECTOR_API_TOKEN=…`
in the banner, but App.tsx was calling `createWebEnvironment(undefined, …)`
so the browser never sent `x-mcp-remote-auth`. The Hono middleware
correctly rejected with "Authentication required. Use the
x-mcp-remote-auth header with Bearer token."
Adds a small `getAuthToken()` helper in App.tsx that reads
`MCP_INSPECTOR_API_TOKEN` off `window.location.search`, falls back to
`sessionStorage`, and persists fresh values into sessionStorage so
client-side navigation / OAuth round-trips don't drop the token. The
resolved value is passed to `createWebEnvironment` whenever a new
InspectorClient is built.
2. **Misleading ServerCard display** — the seed server's `config` is
`{ command: "npx", args: ["-y", "@modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem",
"/tmp"] }` but the card only rendered `"npx"`, so it looked like the
command was incomplete. `getCommandOrUrl` now joins `command + args`
for stdio configs, so the card shows the same string that gets spawned.
SSE / streamable-http paths unchanged.
Manual end-to-end re-verified against `npm run dev` (no DANGEROUSLY_OMIT_AUTH):
- Banner prints the auth-token URL.
- Browser navigates to that URL → `getAuthToken()` picks the token off the
query string, persists to sessionStorage, threads it through to every
`/api/*` request.
- Server card shows `npx -y @modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem /tmp`.
- Toggle connect → connection succeeds; ViewHeader shows
`Connected (~1.3s)`; Tools tab populates with the 14 filesystem tools.

* fix(web): use dark-9 instead of blue-9 for dark-mode page background
`main.tsx` overrode `--mantine-color-body` to `--mantine-color-blue-9` in
dark mode, while `.storybook/preview.tsx` used `--mantine-color-dark-9`.
The dev app then rendered with a blue background while every story (and
the design intent visible in storybook) used dark grey.
Switch main.tsx to `--mantine-color-dark-9` so the dev app matches the
storybook reference.

* feat(web): seed the Servers screen with the "everything" reference server
Adds `@modelcontextprotocol/server-everything` to the hardcoded seed list
alongside the filesystem server. The everything server exposes tools,
prompts, resources, sampling, and completion — covering most of the
surface a developer might want to exercise against the wired-up
InspectorView without configuring anything.
Comment updated to explain the two-seed shape.

* fix(web): address #1244 PR review feedback (JsonValue cast, client lifecycle, dead code)
- **#1 — Misleading `Record<string, never>` cast**: Imported `JsonValue`
from `@inspector/core/mcp/index.js` and changed `args as Record<string,
never>` to `args as Record<string, JsonValue>` in `onCallTool`. The new
cast honestly narrows from the screen-level `Record<string, unknown>`
to what `InspectorClient.callTool` actually requires. Added a comment
explaining the boundary.
- **#2 + #3 — Previous InspectorClient not disconnected on server switch
or unmount**: Added a `useEffect` keyed on `inspectorClient` whose
cleanup calls `inspectorClient.disconnect()`. One effect covers both
the swap-on-switch leak (prior session's transport stayed open until
GC) and the unmount-during-connected leak (HMR / tests).
`setupClientForServer`'s existing state-manager `destroy()` calls
handle the listener side; the new effect handles the transport side.
- **#4 — Dead `void` block at bottom of file**: Deleted the trailing
`void FetchRequestLogState; void StderrLogState;` block. The state
managers are already constructed via `new FetchRequestLogState(client)`
/ `new StderrLogState(client)`, so the imports are referenced by the
linter's reckoning. The `void` pair was dead code with a comment that
no longer matched reality.
- **#5 / #7 / #8 — Follow-up TODOs**: Added TODO refs to the new
follow-up issues:
- TODO(#1323): `error` event in InspectorClientEventMap so mid-session
transport failures surface (connect-only catch is incomplete).
- TODO(#1324): negotiated `protocolVersion` through `useInspectorClient`
(currently hard-coded `"2025-06-18"`).
- TODO(#1325): `useResourceSubscriptions` hook so subscribe/unsubscribe
buttons reflect their server-side effect.
Items #6 (useCallback dep churn), #9 (helper unit tests), and #10
(shared no-op bridge factory fixture) are acknowledged in the PR reply
as deferred — no functional impact and out of scope for a "wire the
hook layer" PR.

Port v1.5 web dev backend (vite-hono-plugin + remote-server bootstrap) (#1321)
* feat(web): port v1.5 dev backend (vite-hono-plugin + sandbox + remote-server bootstrap) Ports the v1.5 in-process dev backend into v2 so `npm run dev` serves the Hono remote-server (`/api/*`) alongside the Vite-served browser app. Without this, the browser-side `createRemoteTransport` had nothing to talk to during local development. Adds under `clients/web/server/`: - vite-hono-plugin.ts (Hono middleware on the Vite dev server; gated to `apply: 'serve'` and skipped when `process.env.VITEST` is set so it stays inert in vitest/storybook runs) - sandbox-controller.ts (standalone HTTP server for the MCP Apps sandbox) - web-server-config.ts (env parsing + initial-config payload + banner; `autoOpen` defaults off under VITEST so test runs don't shell out to `open`) - server.ts (standalone Hono prod server for the future v2 launcher, #1246) - start-vite-dev-server.ts (in-process Vite starter for the future launcher) - vite-base-config.ts (shared optimizeDeps exclusions) Wires `honoMiddlewarePlugin(buildWebServerConfigFromEnv())` into `vite.config.ts` with `apply: 'serve'`. Adds the `open` dependency and a DOM lib + `@inspector/core/*` path alias to `tsconfig.node.json` so the dev-backend files type-check alongside vite.config.ts. Coverage: web-server-config.ts (100% lines), sandbox-controller.ts (91% lines), and vite-base-config.ts (100%) all clear the per-file gate. The Vite plugin, prod server, and dev-server starter are excluded from coverage as runtime glue exercised by `npm run dev` end-to-end (callers covered separately; their logic lives in core/mcp/remote/node, which integration tests already exercise). Closes #1320. Unblocks #1244 (Wire App.tsx) — its test plan can now run end-to-end. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(web/server): address PR review feedback on the dev-backend port - sandbox-controller: resolve start() with empty values on listen error (e.g. EADDRINUSE on a fixed MCP_SANDBOX_PORT) instead of leaving the promise pending forever. Without this, the Vite plugin's `await sandboxController.start()` could hang the entire dev backend on a port collision. Banner now silently omits the sandbox line; getUrl() keeps returning null. Adds a regression test exercising the EADDRINUSE path against a real socket. - vite-hono-plugin: listen for `error` and `close` on the incoming request stream (in addition to `end`) so an aborted POST/PUT (browser navigates mid-upload) doesn't leak the middleware indefinitely. - vite-hono-plugin: add a `.catch()` to the initial `pump()` kickoff so a sync throw before the first `await reader.read()` can't surface as an unhandled rejection. - sandbox_proxy.html: drop the stale CSP comment — v1.5's sandbox HTTP server never set CSP either; this PR doesn't regress anything. Replace with the actual isolation model (iframe sandbox attribute + origin allowlist) so future readers don't assume a CSP header is enforced. - Hoist `WebServerHandle` to a shared `server/types.ts` so the future launcher port (#1246) doesn't need to pick one of two duplicate declarations. - Extract `resolveAutoOpen()` helper out of the triple-nested ternary in `buildWebServerConfigFromEnv` for legibility, with the three-way logic documented in one place. - Add an inline comment explaining why `webServerConfigToInitialPayload` falls back to streamable-http for unknown discriminators (forward-compat with future SDK transports) rather than throwing. test: switch integration project to folder-based manifest (#1314) (#1318)
* test: switch integration project to folder-based manifest (#1314) Replace the `integrationTests` enumeration in vite.config.ts with a folder glob (`src/test/integration/**/*.test.ts`). Files under that folder run in the integration vitest project (node env, 30s timeouts); everything else runs in the unit project (happy-dom). This removes the silent misclassification trap from #1307: a new integration-style test no longer falls into the unit project (and happy-dom) just because someone forgot to add it to the array. The 13 ported v1.5 tests + their helpers move under src/test/integration/ in a strict mirror of core/ source layout (mcp/, auth/, auth/node/, storage/). Renames use git mv so history is preserved. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * test: address PR review on #1318 (glob extensions + AGENTS doc) - vite.config.ts: widen integrationGlob from `*.test.ts` to `*.test.{ts,tsx}` so the integration folder fully owns its contents. Without this, a `.test.tsx` placed under src/test/integration/ would match the unit project's `{ts,tsx}` include, fail the unit `.ts`-only exclude, and silently land under happy-dom — the exact misclassification trap this PR set out to close. - AGENTS.md: update the line describing where integration tests live; it still pointed at the old `src/test/core/` location and the removed `integrationTests` enumeration. test(core): backfill coverage on inspectorClient + remote server (#1317)
* test(core): backfill coverage on inspectorClient + remote server Resolves #1310. Drops the two TODO(#1310) exclusions from clients/web/vite.config.ts (coverage.exclude); both files now pass the per-file gate (lines >=90, statements >=85, functions >=80, branches >=50). core/mcp/remote/node/server.ts (88.15 / 78.37 -> 97.29 / 100): - Extract createTokenAuthProvider to its own file (core/mcp/remote/node/tokenAuthProvider.ts) so the 7 no-op OAuthClientProvider stubs can be unit-tested directly. - Add focused integration tests covering the remaining gaps: * createTransportNode failure path on POST /api/mcp/connect * /api/mcp/send when transport is dead * /api/log non-JSON body (catch fallback) * forwardLogEvent unknown-level / no-messages / string-first-message fallbacks (lines 232, 240-242, 257-265 in the original) * /api/fetch missing-url + upstream-throw paths * /api/storage POST invalid storeId + invalid JSON body * /api/storage GET when the on-disk store is unparseable core/mcp/inspectorClient.ts (73.48 / 72.09 -> 91.16 / 89.92): Added a single "Coverage backfill (#1310)" describe block to the existing integration test, plus a few unit-style cases: - OAuth getters / setOAuthConfig / authenticate when oauthManager is unset. - Simple session, roots, subscription, and instructions accessors. - subscribe / unsubscribe error paths against a server without the subscribe capability; happy path against one with it. - getPrompt + readResourceFromTemplate happy path + expansion-failure. - setLoggingLevel "Server does not support logging" guard. - getAppRendererClient (null before connect, cached proxy after). - OAuth + stdio: authenticate() throws via getServerUrl()'s stdio check. - listChanged notifications: tools/resources/prompts handlers via the fixture add_tool / add_resource / add_prompt tools. - Misc tiny branches: re-connect no-op, elicit form mode, getTaskCapabilities on a tasks-less server, receiver-task TTL cleanup + cancel via the private surface (the focused-unit pass the issue describes). - defensive `if (!this.client) throw` guards: one nullify-and-call test exercises 16 of them via a single instance, plus the connect() entry guard. The receiver-task internals test uses (instance as unknown as { private fields... }) to drive createReceiverTask / cancelReceiverTask / TTL cleanup directly; per the issue, refactoring private helpers to be testable from a unit test was authorized. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(core): address #1317 PR review feedback - Rename the misnamed "listChanged notifications" describe in inspectorClient.test.ts to "capability detection after connect", since the test asserts only on getCapabilities() round-tripping and never triggers or observes a notification dispatch. Real dispatch coverage lives in the adjacent "list_changed + resourceUpdated notifications" block. Kept the resources/prompts fixtures with a note explaining why they are required for the server to advertise the matching capabilities. - Expand the comment on the 250ms wait in remote-transport.test.ts' /api/mcp/send dead-transport test so it is clear the >= 500 assertion is intentionally permissive across both the dead-transport short- circuit and the downstream send-failure branches. - Add a "keep this in sync" pointer on the nullify() helper so a future cleanup that removes any of the defensive `if (!this.client) throw` guards in inspectorClient.ts is reminded to drop the matching call here rather than silently under-covering. test: run v1.5-ported integration tests under node-env vitest project (#1307) (#1312)
* feat(test): run v1.5-ported integration tests under node-env vitest (#1307) Adds an `integration` vitest project alongside `unit` and `storybook` so the 13 v1.5-ported tests that need real HTTP/stdio servers (or fail under happy-dom's SDK mock resolution) run again under node env with 30s timeouts. Restores test-servers/ as a buildable package so the stdio subprocess spawns a real .js file. Drops the v1.5-source `coverage.exclude` globs and fills coverage gaps across the v1.5-ported core/ modules; two large files (inspectorClient.ts, remote/node/server.ts) keep narrow per-file excludes tracked in #1310. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(core): address PR #1312 review — TS6-safe tsconfig, real transport_error path - Drop `baseUrl` / `paths` / `typeRoots` / `declaration*` from test-servers/tsconfig.json. They were only needed for type resolution, and we already pass `--noCheck` from `test-servers:build`. Under TS 6+ the deprecated `baseUrl` exited with code 2, which silently skipped vitest in the `&&` chains of test:integration / test:coverage / validate. - Rework the "send() throws after closed" test to drive `closed` via an actual transport_error SSE event instead of mutating private state through a cast — matches the real path the branch guards. feat(core): port v1.5 InspectorClient + transports + auth subsystem (#1302) (#1306)
* wip(core): bulk-copy v1.5 InspectorClient runtime files (#1302) Verbatim ports from origin/v1.5/main into v2/main core/: - logging/ (2 files) - storage/ + storage/adapters/ (4 files) - auth/ + auth/browser/ + auth/node/ + auth/remote/ (16 files) - mcp/config.ts + mcp/node/ (4 files, stdio transport) - mcp/remote/ + mcp/remote/node/ (12 files, HTTP/SSE transport) - mcp/inspectorClient.ts (~2169 LOC), messageTrackingTransport, fetchTracking, oauthManager, index, state/index Total: ~7,800 LOC of source files, copied unmodified via `git show origin/v1.5/main:<path> > <dest>`. Also: - Add deps: pino, hono, @hono/node-server, atomically, zustand, @types/node - tsconfig.app.json: extend paths to resolve new node-only deps from core/, add "node" to types, disable erasableSyntaxOnly (v1.5 code uses parameter properties — TODO to re-enable in follow-up) Compiles down to 47 type errors, all in three categories: - 24 TS2305: v2 dropped v1.5 type exports (InspectorClientOptions, CreateTransport, InspectorClientEnvironment, AppRendererClient, SamplingCreateMessage class, ElicitationCreateMessage class, jsonUtils helpers, OAuth events). Per user direction, will re-add these to v2's diverged files (types.ts, samplingCreateMessage.ts, etc.) so the ported code stays verbatim. - 15 TS7006: implicit-any params in v1.5 code (v1.5 tsconfig was looser than v2's noImplicitAny). Need explicit annotations. - 8 other TS errors: ../package.json import, Transport|null narrowing, hono Context generic mismatch, one unused parameter. Tests not yet ported (19 files, ~11,170 LOC). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * wip(core): integrate ported v1.5 InspectorClient + port tests (#1302) Source integration (typecheck + build now pass): - Re-add v1.5 types/classes dropped during v2 evolution: - types.ts: CreateTransport*, AppRendererClient, InspectorClient{Environment,Options} - samplingCreateMessage.ts / elicitationCreateMessage.ts: classes + keep v2's InspectorPending{Sampling,Elicitation} interface - inspectorClientEventTarget.ts: oauth* event keys - json/jsonUtils.ts: convertParameterValue / convertToolParameters / convertPromptArguments + ParameterSchema - inspectorClient.ts: replace `../package.json` import (v2 has no core/package.json) with a hardcoded identity constant - remote/node/server.ts: cast hono Context for streamSSE (hono's generic typing tightened since v1.5) - oauth-callback-server.ts: drop unused hostname field - tsconfig: enable @types/node, add paths for new bare-module deps (pino, zustand, hono, atomically) in app + test configs - vite.config.ts: mirror those module aliases for the unit project (which runs from repoRoot) Tests ported (19 files, ~11K LOC) under clients/web/src/test/core/: - All core/__tests__/auth/* (7 files) - inspectorClient.test.ts + 4 OAuth variants - mcp/oauthManager.test.ts, jsonUtils.test.ts - transport, remote-transport, remote-server-config, storage-adapters - helpers/oauth-client-fixtures.ts Bulk-rewrote `from "../mcp/…"` → `from "@inspector/core/mcp/…"` etc. Current state: - typecheck: 0 errors - build: passes (vite v8, 788 modules) - unit tests: 1014 / 1034 pass (937 pre-existing + 77 new core tests) - 20 failures in 13 files; failure modes: - 13 file-load failures needing the v1.5 `test-servers/` package (@modelcontextprotocol/inspector-test-server) which isn't in v2 yet or real fs/network not available in happy-dom - 7 assertion failures in discovery.test.ts + state-machine.test.ts (SDK 1.29 vs 1.25 API drift — mocks don't match new shape) Coverage gate not yet checked against new files. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * wip(core): port test-servers, more types, partial test integration (#1302) - Port v1.5 test-servers/ package (12 files, ~5K LOC) under repo-root/test-servers/, wire @modelcontextprotocol/inspector-test-server alias in both vite.config.ts (regex form) and tsconfig.test.json. - Add deps: express ^5, yaml ^2, @types/express ^5. - Re-export InspectorClientOptions/Environment/Transport* from inspectorClient.ts so v1.5 tests that import them from that module path keep resolving. - Switch InspectorClientEventMap to use SamplingCreateMessage / ElicitationCreateMessage classes (matches v1.5 event payload contracts) while keeping the InspectorPending{Sampling,Elicitation} interfaces in the *.ts modules for v2 consumers that still use them. - Fix verbatim-module-syntax issue in test-servers and drop unused stdio config field. - Adjust inspectorClient.test.ts task types to TaskWithOptionalCreatedAt (SDK 1.29 tightened Task shape vs v1.5's 1.25). - Drop spurious maxMessages/maxFetchRequests/maxStderrLogEvents from remote-transport.test.ts (never on InspectorClientOptions). State: - typecheck: 0 errors - build: passes - unit tests: 1099 / 1270 pass - 171 failures in 10 test files, almost all integration tests that need real HTTP/fs/network (happy-dom can't host them). Next: add a node-env vitest project to run these properly. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * feat(core): port v1.5 InspectorClient + transports + auth subsystem (#1302) Bulk-port of the v1.5 core runtime (~7,800 LOC source + ~16K LOC tests + ~5K LOC test-servers/) into v2. Files copied verbatim from origin/v1.5/main via `git show >`; only minimal adapters added on the v2 side. Subsystems landed ----------------- - core/logging/, core/storage/, core/auth/ (browser + node + remote) - core/mcp/ runtime: inspectorClient.ts (2169 LOC), oauthManager, messageTrackingTransport, fetchTracking, config, index - core/mcp/node/ (stdio transport) - core/mcp/remote/ + remote/node/ (HTTP/SSE transport + Hono server) - test-servers/ package (composable MCP test servers, fixtures, harness) v2 adapter layer ---------------- - types.ts: append CreateTransport*, AppRendererClient, InspectorClient{Environment,Options} (v2 had pruned these — v1.5 needs them) - samplingCreateMessage / elicitationCreateMessage: keep v1.5 classes AND v2's Inspector Pending* interfaces in the same files - inspectorClientEventTarget: add oauth* event keys; switch pending sampling/elicitation payloads to the classes (matches v1.5 contracts) - json/jsonUtils: append convertParameterValue/convertToolParameters/ convertPromptArguments + ParameterSchema - inspectorClient.ts: re-export Options/Environment/Transport* so tests that import these from `inspectorClient.js` keep resolving; replace `../package.json` import with a hardcoded identity (v2 has no core/package.json) - remote/node/server.ts: cast hono Context for streamSSE (hono generic tightened since v1.5) - oauth-callback-server: drop unused hostname field - tsconfig.app.json / tsconfig.test.json: add @types/node + paths for pino/zustand/hono/@hono/node-server/atomically/express/yaml, disable erasableSyntaxOnly (parameter-property syntax from v1.5) - vite.config.ts: regex-form module aliases (so the package's exports field handles subpaths like `hono/streaming`, `zustand/middleware`), alias for @modelcontextprotocol/inspector-test-server → test-servers/src Tests ----- - 19 v1.5 test files copied under clients/web/src/test/core/, imports rewired to @inspector/core/* and @modelcontextprotocol/inspector-test-server - 1004 unit tests pass; 298 storybook tests pass; coverage gate passes Known follow-ups (out-of-scope here, tracked in TODOs) ------------------------------------------------------ - 13 integration test files are excluded from the unit project (spawn real HTTP/stdio servers; run real OAuth flows; mock SDK auth → happy-dom CORS). Needs a node-env vitest project. Files listed under `test.projects[0].test.exclude`. - Source files exercised only by those integration tests are excluded from the coverage gate pending the node-env project. Listed under `test.coverage.exclude` with comment. - Manual smoke tests against real stdio / HTTP / OAuth server per the AC on #1302 still need verification locally. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * docs/fix: address #1306 review (AGENTS tree, #1307 links, @types/node, .substr) - AGENTS.md: expand the project-structure tree to include all v1.5-ported subsystems (core/auth/{browser,node,remote}, core/storage, core/logging, core/mcp/{node,remote/{,node}}, core/mcp/state) plus the new top-level test-servers/ directory (with a note about its @modelcontextprotocol/ inspector-test-server alias). - vite.config.ts: reference #1307 from both the test exclude block and the coverage exclude block so the next person editing either sees the marching order for shrinking the lists. - package.json: restore @types/node to ^24 (an earlier `npm install --save-dev @types/node@^22` accidentally pinned it lower than the repo was using; nothing here required ^22). - core/mcp/fetchTracking.ts: replace deprecated .substr(2, 9) with .slice(2, 11) to match the convention in core/mcp/inspectorClient.ts. fix(coverage): include core/ files in v8 per-file gate (#1301) (#1305)
* fix(coverage): include core/ files in v8 per-file gate (#1301) Two issues prevented coverage.include's '../../core/...' globs from reaching core/ files: 1. allowExternal defaults to false — v8 drops any file whose absolute path doesn't start with the project root (clients/web/) before the include filter runs. Set allowExternal: true, and switch the globs to absolute paths so tinyglobby + picomatch handle them correctly. 2. vitest's coverage transformer only processes files inside a project root; for everything else it falls back to raw-TS parsing in rolldown, which can't handle TS-only syntax (e.g. import type) — silently dropping untested core/ files and bypassing the gate. Root the unit project at the repo root so the transformer reaches core/. The repo root has no node_modules, so add an explicit react alias and shift include/setupFiles paths accordingly. Also add the four pure-type core files (samplingCreateMessage, sessionStorage, inspectorClientProtocol, inspectorClientEventTarget) to the exclude list with a comment — they have no executable code. Verified by introducing an untested probe file, confirming exit=1 with threshold errors, then removing it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * refactor(coverage): address review feedback on #1305 - Drop allowExternal: true — with the unit project rooted at repoRoot, core/ files are no longer "external" to any project that collects coverage (the storybook project doesn't), so the flag is redundant. - Extract sharedAliases / sharedDedupe constants and reference them from both the top-level resolve and the unit project resolve, so the two stay in sync if a new core/* alias is added. - Add TODO(#1243) on the inspectorClientEventTarget.ts exclusion so it's revisited once the class gains real behavior in the InspectorClient port. feat(core): port v1.5 hook layer (#1243) (#1300)
* feat(core): port v1.5 hook layer (useInspectorClient + useManaged*/usePaged* + log hooks) Wholesale port of v1.5's React hook layer and the EventTarget-based state machinery the hooks subscribe to (#1243). Hooks decouple from the concrete InspectorClient via a new `InspectorClientProtocol` interface so this layer can land before the runtime class is ported. Added under `core/`: - `core/react/` — useInspectorClient + 5 useManaged* + 5 usePaged* + 3 log hooks - `core/mcp/state/` — 5 managed*State + 5 paged*State + messageLogState + stderrLogState + fetchRequestLogState - `core/mcp/inspectorClientProtocol.ts`, `inspectorClientEventTarget.ts`, `typedEventTarget.ts`, `samplingCreateMessage.ts`, `sessionStorage.ts` - v2-only wrapper types in `core/mcp/types.ts`: InspectorUrlElicitRequest, InspectorPendingRequest, InspectorRequestHistoryItem Tests live under `clients/web/src/test/core/` (28 new test files, 264 new tests). Test fake: `core/mcp/__tests__/fakeInspectorClient.ts`. Build wiring: - `vite.config.ts`: dedupe react/react-dom so core/ files resolve them via clients/web/node_modules. - `tsconfig.app.json` / `tsconfig.test.json`: paths map react/react-dom/vitest to clients/web/node_modules so `tsc -b` resolves bare imports from core/ source files (which sit above the package's node_modules). Exclude core/__tests__ from app config; include in test config. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * review: address PR #1300 review findings Bugs: - fetchRequestLogState: add .catch() on sessionStorage.loadSession so a corrupt or unreadable session doesn't surface as an unhandled rejection (matches the saveSession swallow pattern). - messageLogState: sync pendingRequestEntries when clearMessages() evicts a pending request entry, so a later response with the same id falls through to the append branch instead of mutating an unreachable map entry. Add tests for both predicate and no-predicate paths. Cleanups: - Extract mergeTaskIntoList helper to core/mcp/state/mergeTaskIntoList.ts so managed/paged RequestorTasks state classes share one definition. - Add a one-line JSDoc note on each PagedTools/Prompts/Resources/Templates state explaining why they deliberately do not subscribe to *ListChanged (cursor invalidation mid-pagination). - Document on useInspectorClient that appRendererClient is read lazily on every render and is not subscribed (changes once at connect time). Carry-overs from v1.5 deliberately left for the follow-up InspectorClient runtime port: - Refresh/status-change race in Managed*State.refresh() (status check is only at entry; a disconnect during await can re-clear before refresh resumes). - nextCursor exposure asymmetry across usePaged* (only usePagedRequestorTasks surfaces it via state field; others return it from loadPage() only). test(coverage): bootstrap vitest unit infra and add tests at 90%+ per file (#1245) (#1269)
* test(coverage): bootstrap vitest unit infra and add tests at 90%+ per file (#1245) Establishes the unit-test runtime AGENTS.md mandates: a vitest "unit" project alongside the existing storybook project, RTL + jest-dom + happy-dom, a Mantine-aware render helper, and a 90%-line per-file coverage gate enforced by CI. Adds 66 test files covering all 62 components under elements/groups/screens/views, plus core/mcp and clients/web/src/utils. Total: 577 tests, 98.7% line coverage globally. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(coverage): address PR #1269 review feedback - AGENTS.md: correct coverage gate description (lines ≥ 90, statements ≥ 85, functions ≥ 80, branches ≥ 50) with rationale for the relaxed branch threshold - InspectorView.test.tsx: document what the Math.random() mock values (0.1 / 0.99) control vs. STUB_SUCCESS_RATE in InspectorView.tsx - vite.config.ts / tsconfig.test.json: drop unused `globals: true` and the `vitest/globals` type now that every test file imports describe/it/expect/vi explicitly; manual `afterEach(cleanup)` in setup.ts remains required because testing-library auto-cleanup relies on globalThis.afterEach Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> --------- Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 4.7 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Phase 0 foundations for component interfaces refactor
Stands up the type-only prerequisites for the v2 UX component
interfaces refactor per specification/v2_ux_interfaces_plan.md.
Phase 0.1 — MCP SDK dependency:
- Add @modelcontextprotocol/sdk ^1.29.0 and zod ^4.3.6 to both the
root package.json and clients/web/package.json so component files
can import Tool / Prompt / Resource / Task / LoggingLevel / etc.
directly from the SDK.
Phase 0.2 — Inspector wrapper-types module:
- Create core/mcp/types.ts mirroring the type-only subset of v1.5's
core/mcp/types.ts: MCPServerConfig (discriminated union), ServerType,
MCPConfig, ConnectionStatus, StderrLogEntry, MessageEntry (Date
timestamps, not ISO strings), FetchRequestEntry(+Base), ServerState,
and the *Invocation types. Adds v2-only wrappers
InspectorResourceSubscription and InspectorServerJsonDraft.
- Add core/mcp/taskNotificationSchemas.ts for the Inspector-owned
notifications/tasks/list_changed signal (not in the SDK).
- Add core/mcp/elicitationCreateMessage.ts re-exporting ElicitRequest
and ElicitResult plus an InspectorPendingElicitation interface for
typing the pending-queue.
- Add core/json/jsonUtils.ts for the shared JsonValue / JsonObject
types used inside core/mcp/types.ts.
- Copy v1.5's clients/web/src/utils/jsonUtils.ts (JsonSchemaType) and
schemaUtils.ts (AJV-backed validators) verbatim so SchemaForm can
switch off its local JsonSchema type.
- Copy v1.5's clients/web/src/lib/types/customHeaders.ts verbatim for
ServerSettingsForm and the experimental panel.
- Add clients/web/src/types/navigation.ts with InspectorTab (UI-routing
concept, lives with the web client rather than in core/).
- Wire tsconfig.app.json + vite.config.ts with the @inspector/core/*
path alias so component files can import from core/ without
relative-path hell.
Phase 0.3 — Vet (likely) hedges in v2_ux_interfaces.md:
- Follow-up sweep on commit
