DataCube GTM memo — Vertical 1 (E-Signature) and Vertical 2 (CLM)

Scope. Zapier-listed e-signature (26) and CLM (7) vendors. Zap counts are Zapiers published zap_usage_count as of the catalog pull in this workspace. Signaturely was listed as “(find)” in the brief; catalog value is 12.

Thesis for this pair of verticals. The product is the later-disputed record: who signed, what they signed, when, from where, and under what identity check. Every vendor below already mints a vendor-attested Certificate of Completion / audit trail. That trail is useful until a counterparty, regulator, or insurer asks whether the vendor could have rewritten it. Independent sealing at send, view, each signature, decline, void, and amendment is the wedge.

Method. Public sites, filings, vendor blogs, Zapier app pages, and press. Numbers not independently published are marked Unknown. Do not treat third-party price estimates as list prices unless labeled.

Zapier listing URLs follow https://zapier.com/apps/{slug}/integrations.

Vertical 1 — E-Signature (26)

1. Docusign

  • Vendor name: Docusign (legal: Docusign, Inc.; product family includes eSignature and IAM / Intelligent Agreement Management)
  • Parent / owner: Independent public company
  • Website: https://www.docusign.com/
  • Zapier listing: https://zapier.com/apps/docusign/integrations
  • Zap usage count: 4,656
  • USP: Category-defining envelope + Certificate of Completion stack, now being repositioned as an agreement-lifecycle / IAM platform (workspaces, workflow builder, agreement manager) rather than “just e-sign.” Court-tested brand; deepest Connect event surface on Zapier.
  • ICP: Mid-market and enterprise legal, sales, HR, and procurement; also a large long-tail of SMBs who inherited Docusign as the default. Strongest in US regulated industries that already write “Docusign or equivalent” into policy.
  • HQ / founding / funding: San Francisco, CA. Founded 2003 (Tom Gonser, Court Lorenzini, Eric Ranft). Nasdaq: DOCU (IPO April 2018). Pre-IPO venture capital commonly cited around $520M across many rounds. Public status supersedes private valuation.
  • Pricing posture: Dual. Self-serve eSignature Personal ~$10/user/mo annual / $15 monthly (5 envelopes/mo). Standard ~$25/user/mo annual / $45 monthly. Business Pro ~$40$50/user/mo annual / ~$65 monthly. Team plans typically 100 envelopes per user per year (or ~10/mo on monthly). Enterprise / IAM is sales-led and custom. Envelope caps are the main complaint versus cheaper unlimited-send rivals.
  • Proof / evidence angle: The envelope and Certificate of Completion (who signed, timestamps, IP, authentication method, document hash as attested by Docusign). Disputes: “that is not what I signed,” identity-spoofing, post-completion alteration, void/correct history, delegated signer, failed KBA/IDV, QES identity-verification failures. IAM adds a second disputed object: the agreement record / workspace version, not just the signed PDF.
  • Notable Zapier triggers / actions: Very large surface. Triggers include Envelope Created/Sent/Delivered/Completed/Declined/Voided/Corrected/Deleted/Purged, recipient-level completed/declined/auth-failed, clickwrap agreed/declined, template CRUD, IDV completed/pending, plus IAM-only Agreement / Workspace / Workflow events. Actions: send envelope from document or template, draft, void, bulk send, download documents, webform links, IAM workspace/workflow ops.
  • Usually compared to: Adobe Acrobat Sign, Dropbox Sign, PandaDoc, SignNow, BoldSign, Ironclad (on the CLM/IAM side), Conga.

2. SignNow (airSlate SignNow)

  • Vendor name: SignNow (marketed as airSlate SignNow)
  • Parent / owner: airSlate, Inc. (also owns pdfFiller / document-automation hub). SignNow history: founded independently 2011 → Barracuda Networks (2013) → sold to PDFfiller (2017) → airSlate family.
  • Website: https://www.signnow.com/
  • Zapier listing: https://zapier.com/apps/signnow/integrations
  • Zap usage count: 1,035
  • USP: High-feature e-sign (templates, document groups, payments, field extraction) sold as a cheaper Docusign alternative, bundled into airSlates no-code document-workflow suite.
  • ICP: SMBs and mid-market ops/sales/HR that want Docusign-like features without Docusign pricing; agencies and high-volume senders. airSlate claims a large consumer/SMB install base (“millions of users” — treat as marketing).
  • HQ / founding / funding: airSlate HQ Brookline, MA (17 Station St). SignNow founded 2011 (Chris Hawkins & Andrew Ellis; originally associated with Newport Beach, CA). airSlate private; notable rounds include ~$40M (Morgan Stanley Expansion Capital / General Catalyst, 2021) and $51.5M (G Squared / UiPath, 2022) with a reported $1.25B valuation in 2022. Total equity commonly cited ~$90M+.
  • Pricing posture: Self-serve cheap-to-mid. Public list (annual): Business $8/user/mo, Business Premium $15, Enterprise $30 (monthly list higher: ~$20 / $30 / $50). Site license ~$1.50 per signature invite. API has a free invite allotment then paid.
  • Proof / evidence angle: Completed document + document history (Zapier can return PDF, history, and ZIP). Disputes: invite cancellation vs. completion, document-group vs. single-doc execution, payment-tied signing, deleted-document history.
  • Notable Zapier triggers / actions: Triggers: Document Completed, Document Group Completed, Document Deleted/Updated, New Document. Actions: upload, extract fields, invite to sign, create from template (free-form or role-based), document groups, generate from DOCX merge tags, cancel invites.
  • Usually compared to: Docusign, Adobe Acrobat Sign, Dropbox Sign, PandaDoc, BoldSign, SignWell.

3. eSignatures (esignatures.io)

  • Vendor name: eSignatures / eSignatures.io (also marketed via esignatures.com)
  • Parent / owner: Independent (no public acquisition found)
  • Website: https://esignatures.io (also https://esignatures.com/)
  • Zapier listing: https://zapier.com/apps/esignatures/integrations
  • Zap usage count: 695
  • USP: Usage-priced, mobile-first contract sender for automators: $0.49 per contract sent, no monthly seat fee. Built for API / Zapier template-to-signer flows rather than a heavy UI.
  • ICP: Agencies, coaches, SaaS builders, and ops people who fire contracts from Airtable/CRM/forms and hate per-seat e-sign bills. Most clients reportedly US; company is Australian.
  • HQ / founding / funding: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Public site: “collecting signatures since 2015.” Funding: Unknown (appears bootstrapped).
  • Pricing posture: Self-serve, cheapest unit economics on this list. Flat $0.49 per sent contract (any number of signers/pages). Optional SMS and live photo ID verification at extra flat fees. No subscription.
  • Proof / evidence angle: Signed mobile-friendly contract + per-signer events. Disputes: what template/version was merged, SMS vs. email delivery failure, photo-ID verification vs. simple click-sign, “auto sign” test mode leaking into production (Zapier exposes an Auto Sign flag).
  • Notable Zapier triggers / actions: Triggers: Contract Sent to a Signer, Signature Received, Contract Signed (all parties), Delivery Failed. Action: Create Contract from template (up to 5 signers, placeholders, metadata, draft mode).
  • Usually compared to: SignWell, BoldSign, Dropbox Sign, Docusign (on price), other pay-as-you-go APIs (e.g. Signbee).

4. SignRequest

  • Vendor name: SignRequest
  • Parent / owner: Box, Inc. (Nasdaq: BOX). Acquired February 2021 for $55M. Product lineage also feeds Box Sign. SignRequest.com still operates as a brand/join-Box path.
  • Website: https://signrequest.com
  • Zapier listing: https://zapier.com/apps/signrequest/integrations
  • Zap usage count: 568
  • USP: Originally the European “e-sign without enterprise pricing” tool; now a Box content-cloud signing motion (files already in Box get signed in place).
  • ICP: Historically EU SMBs and cost-sensitive teams; post-acquisition, Box customers who want signing inside content collaboration rather than a standalone e-sign stack.
  • HQ / founding / funding: Founded 2014, Netherlands. Box HQ is Redwood City, CA. Independent funding history is now moot; deal value $55M.
  • Pricing posture: Historically self-serve cheap. Current commercial packaging is mixed: leftover SignRequest plans plus Box Sign / Box enterprise SKUs. Treat standalone SignRequest list price as Unknown / in flux; Box Sign is typically bundled into Box seats.
  • Proof / evidence angle: Signed SignRequest + signed/declined events. Disputes: which file version in Box was the executed copy, signer-language / forced-language settings, mobile-number verification, template prefill vs. what the signer saw.
  • Notable Zapier triggers / actions: Triggers: New Document Signed, New Document Declined, New Document Received. Actions: Send SignRequest (file or URL), Send from Template (signer language, approve-only, mobile verify, tags prefill).
  • Usually compared to: Docusign, Adobe Acrobat Sign, Dropbox Sign, Box Sign vs. Microsoft/SharePoint signing, SignWell.

  • Zapier listing: https://zapier.com/apps/signwell/integrations

  • USP: Zero-setup, fast UX positioned explicitly as a cheaper Docusign/Adobe/Dropbox Sign alternative, with a usable free tier and a developer API for embed.
  • ICP: Solo professionals, SMBs, and product teams embedding signing. Not chasing Fortune-50 legal.
  • HQ / founding / funding: Portland, OR. Founded 2019. PitchBook lists a small accelerator/incubator round; material VC raise Unknown / appears lightly funded. Employees cited in the low tens.
  • Pricing posture: Self-serve cheap. Free (low monthly doc cap, commonly 3 docs/mo). Light ~$12/user/mo monthly (lower on annual). Business ~$36/mo monthly / ~$24$30 annual depending on published snapshot. Enterprise custom + API.
  • Proof / evidence angle: Completed document + first-view event. Disputes: viewed-but-not-signed timing, API test-mode vs. production, template vs. ad-hoc document, “40% faster” marketing vs. actual completion integrity.
  • Notable Zapier triggers / actions: Triggers: Document Completed, Document Sent, Document Viewed. Action: Create Document From Template (API; limits if not on an API plan).
  • Usually compared to: Docusign, Adobe Acrobat Sign, Dropbox Sign, BoldSign, Signaturely.

  • Zapier listing: https://zapier.com/apps/zoho-sign/integrations

  • USP: Legally binding e-sign native to the Zoho suite (CRM, Forms, Writer, People) at a price that undercuts every US incumbent. Credit-based sending on lower tiers.
  • ICP: Existing Zoho customers first; price-sensitive SMBs and international teams second. India and global SMB are the gravity well.

  • Proof / evidence angle: Envelope/request + certificate of completion + signer form data. Disputes: credit/watermark “testing” envelopes vs. production (Zapier has a dedicated test-send action), recalled vs. expired vs. declined, which Zoho app originated the document.
  • Notable Zapier triggers / actions: Triggers: Document Signed (a recipient), Document Completed, Declined, Expired, Recalled. Actions: Send Template, test send, get files/form data/details.
  • Usually compared to: Docusign, Adobe Acrobat Sign, SignNow, BoldSign, other Zoho-bundled vs. best-of-breed.

  • Zap usage count: 225
  • USP: Cleanest SMB e-sign UX of the 2010s, now sold as signing inside the Dropbox content graph (unlimited requests on paid seats; files land next to the working folder).

  • Pricing posture: Self-serve mid. Free: 3 signature requests/mo. Essentials $15/mo (1 user, unlimited requests). Standard $25/user/mo. Premium/Enterprise custom. API plans sold separately; Zapier notes paid API plan required for non-test_mode webhooks.

  • ICP: SMBs, ISVs embedding e-sign, and teams already in the Syncfusion ecosystem. Developers more than CLM buyers.
  • HQ / founding / funding: Syncfusion HQ Morrisville, NC. BoldSign product announced/launched around 2022 (parent founded much earlier; Syncfusion cites 25+ years). Private, no separate BoldSign raise disclosed.

  • ICP: Developers, agencies, privacy/GDPR-sensitive EU buyers (DocuSeal.eu in Dublin), and teams allergic to Docusign bills. Not a GC-led enterprise CLM buy.
  • HQ / founding / funding: Chicago, IL (332 S Michigan Ave suite address). Founded 2023. Funding: Unknown (appears bootstrapped).

  • Proof / evidence angle: Submission completed by all parties; per-signer form completion. Self-host customers already control the database — they still lack an independent third-party seal. Disputes: which instance signed it (cloud US vs. EU vs. on-prem), flattened PDF / removed tags, SMS 2FA vs. email 2FA, expired submissions.
  • Notable Zapier triggers / actions: Triggers: Signing Form Completed, Submission Completed. Actions: Create Signature Request (template / PDF / HTML / DOCX), Update Signer (re-send, 2FA, values).

  • Zapier listing: https://zapier.com/apps/getaccept/integrations
  • Zap usage count: 147
  • USP: Not a pure e-sign tool — a digital sales room + proposal + CPQ-ish closer that happens to collect a legally binding signature at the end, with engagement analytics (viewed, reviewed, commented).
  • ICP: B2B sales / RevOps mid-market, especially Salesforce/HubSpot shops. Nordic origin, US go-to-market.
  • HQ / founding / funding: Founded 2015 (YC W16; YC lists 2016). Origins Malmö, Sweden; also San Francisco. Funding >$30M (Bessemer-led Series B $20M in 2020; also YC, DN Capital, Amino).

  • Zap usage count: 99
  • USP: E-sign baked into Acrobat / Document Cloud and the Adobe enterprise admin console, with deep Microsoft 365, Salesforce, Workday, ServiceNow connectors and industry compliance SKUs. The “we already own Acrobat” default.
  • ICP: Enterprises standardized on Adobe; IT-led buys; government and regulated industries that want Acrobat + Sign under one MSA. Weak Zap usage relative to brand — native enterprise integrations steal Zapier volume.
  • HQ / founding / funding: Adobe HQ San Jose, CA. EchoSign released January 2006; acquired 2011. Adobe is a large public company.
  • Pricing posture: Acrobat team plans include uncapped e-sign on some SKUs (public Acrobat team pricing often ~$15$30/user/mo depending on Standard/Pro). Acrobat Sign Solutions (Business/Enterprise) is sales-led custom. Individual Acrobat Pro includes limited signing.

  • ICP: Nordic and European mid-market sales, HR, and procurement teams; HubSpot/Pipedrive-heavy. Less US enterprise legal.
  • HQ / founding / funding: Stockholm, Sweden. Founded 2012 (Anders Hamnes). Listed Nasdaq First North Premier (ticker ONEF) in 2022. Pre-IPO venture commonly cited ~$67M (Spintop et al.).

  • ICP: Spanish, French, Italian enterprises and public-sector-adjacent buyers who need AES/QES and certified delivery. Legal/compliance more than US SMB.
  • HQ / founding / funding: Barcelona, Spain. Founded 2013. PSG investment 2020; Namirial combination 2025/26. Standalone funding total: Unknown (PE-backed).

  • Zapier listing: https://zapier.com/apps/rightsignature/integrations
  • Zap usage count: 46
  • USP: E-sign for accountants, advisors, legal, and construction already living in ShareFile client portals — KBA available on Premium. The record lives next to the client file share, not in a pure e-sign silo.
  • ICP: ShareFile verticals: CPA firms, professional services, healthcare, financial services, construction. Not a net-new e-sign bake-off winner.
  • HQ / founding / funding: Founding year of RightSignature: Unknown (pre-2014 Santa Barbara-era startup). Progress HQ Burlington, MA. ShareFile originated Raleigh. Deal $875M for ShareFile (~$240M revenue, 86k customers at announce).
  • Pricing posture: Bundled enterprise/SMB ShareFile. ShareFile states e-sign is on Premium (KBA included). Historical standalone RightSignature pricing is obsolete. Expect ShareFile seat bundles, not $10 e-sign.
  • Proof / evidence angle: Completed / expired / sent document in a client-share context. Disputes: which ShareFile version was executed, in-person vs. email signer, KBA success/failure, tenant migration across Citrix → CSG → Progress.
  • Notable Zapier triggers / actions: Triggers: New Document Completed, Expired, Sent. Action: Send Template. Popular pairs include ShareFile, MyCase, PracticePanther — legal/accounting gravity.

  • Zap usage count: 37

  • Pricing posture: Enterprise, sales-only. No meaningful self-serve list price. Implementation is a project.

  • USP: AI document intelligence first, CLM second — ingest a warehouse of PDFs, extract clauses/metadata, then govern. Workday is folding that into finance + HCM (people and money contracts).
  • ICP: Enterprise legal/procurement/finance with large legacy contract corpora; now Workday-centric enterprises. Almost no Zapier footprint (native Workday/enterprise connectors will dominate).
  • HQ / founding / funding: San Francisco, CA. Founded 2016 (Jerry Ting). >$150M venture raised pre-exit. Workday paid $311M.

Cross-cut for DataCube / immutable proof

Where the record actually lives

Moment that later gets attacked Typical vendor object Who already emits it
Envelope sent / viewed / signed / declined / voided Certificate of Completion / audit trail PDF Almost every e-sign vendor
Identity of signer KBA, SMS OTP, eID, QES, photo ID Docusign, Adobe, Signaturit, Scrive, Anvil, Vinesign, eSignatures (optional)
What text was signed Template version + flattened PDF All; Anvil/DocuSeal/Oneflow make fields explicit
Approval authority (CLM) Workflow / approval event Ironclad, Concord, Gatekeeper, Juro, SpotDraft
What the contract means AI extraction Evisort/Workday, Ironclad AI, SpotDraft
Sales-room behavior View/comment analytics GetAccept
Evidence pack as a first-class file “Evidence report” ZIP Signify (explicit); others bury it in CoC

Zapier density (proxy for automation-led distribution)

  • E-sign is a Zap-native category. Docusign (4,656) and SignNow (1,035) dwarf everyone. Cheap API tools (eSignatures 695, SignRequest 568, SignWell 471) punch above brand. Adobe (99) and Foxit (25) are under-indexed vs. market share because enterprise SSO/native connectors replace Zaps.
  • CLM barely uses Zapier. Juro (95) and Ironclad (72) are the only ones with real volume. Evisort (1) is a dead Zap; Workday will not change that.

Wedge logic (do not invent willingness-to-pay)

  1. E-sign incumbents already sell “court-admissible audit trails.” The honest pitch is not “you have no evidence”; it is “your evidence is self-attested by the same vendor a litigant will accuse of sloppy retention / migration / test-mode.” Highest volume, lowest differentiation, first-mover forces a response.
  2. QES/eID vendors (Scrive, Signaturit) already sell legal assurance. Independent time-seal is complementary, not competitive — hash the QTSP output.
  3. CLM buyers already think in versions, approvals, and “system of record.” Sealing at execute and each amendment / metadata change is the natural attach. Ironclad and Juro are the only Zap-reachable logos; the rest are sales-led OEM conversations.
  4. Filevine appears twice (Vinesign + Outlaw). One legal-ops relationship covers execution and CLM.
  5. Open-source / lifetime / SEO alternatives (DocuSeal, BreezeDoc, Signaturely, BoloSign) have the weakest long-horizon custody story — easiest “seal this so you are not betting on a $19 lifetime vendor” narrative, worst ACV.

Unknowns to resolve before outreach

  • Current SignRequest vs. Box Sign packaging and whether the Zapier app is still the live product path.
  • RightSignature standalone tenant sunset date under Progress ShareFile.
  • Official list prices: Ironclad, Juro, SpotDraft, Outlaw, Evisort/Workday, GetAccept current DSR SKUs, Vinesign standalone seats, Signify, BreezeDoc legal entity.
  • Whether Contractbook customers are being migrated onto Scrive QES seals (that migration is a proof event).
  • Adobe and Docusign IAM: whether the agreement-manager object will replace the envelope as the thing customers swear to in discovery.
