<!-- Provide a brief summary of your changes -->
## Motivation and Context
<!-- Why is this change needed? What problem does it solve? -->
There was feedback that other projects wanting to use the registry
package have to upgrade to 1.25 (because of how Go works). In the
registry itself we are not relying on 1.25 features so this PR reverts
us back to 1.24 until 1.25 becomes better adopted and we can safely move
to it.
Also realised we were not keeping our dependencies for our deploy/infra
code up to date with Dependabot so this fixes that too.

Telemetry to cover failure modes which are not covered by container logs
and metrics for finding resource constraints.

When there is any issue with registry container we should be notified.

## Additional context
- No additional exporter is used, taken advantage of opentelemetry
collector
- It covers metrics related to resource constraints, currently only
limited to default namespace.
- Takes cares of kubernetes events as logs which are the source of
figuring out any problem with service, covers all such scenarios where
pod is not able to start yet and get missed because there are no
container logs for such cases. Limited to default namespace.
- Taken care of daemonset deployment i.e. deploying otel collector as
agent by using correct filtering.
- Cardinality contributing factors are only pod ids (but have to observe
more), node ids will not increase cardinality as scale up will lead to
limited nodes.
- Shipping of metrics for resources happens every 60s and list of
metrics that will be emitted

Enhanced Go struct tags throughout `pkg/api/v0/types.go` and
`pkg/model/types.go` to better align with the OpenAPI specification.
## Changes
- Added comprehensive `doc` tags with detailed field descriptions
matching OpenAPI
- Added `example` tags showing valid values for fields (e.g.,
`"io.github.user/weather"`, `"npx"`)
- Added `format` tags (`uri`, `date-time`) for better type specification
- Added `pattern` and `enum` tags for validation constraints
- Added `placeholder` field to `Input` struct matching OpenAPI spec
- Removed redundant comments in favor of inline struct tags
These changes improve code clarity and make the types more
self-documenting, while maintaining compatibility with the OpenAPI
schema definitions in `docs/reference/api/openapi.yaml`.

This PR contains a few commits, but the punchline is that we add a "🔎"
icon next to community projects that provide an in-browser UI for the
registry. The intention is that these projects can serve as a stopgap or
substitute for
https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/registry/issues/99.
This is just a first take. Very open to feedback!

## Motivation and Context
<!-- Why is this change needed? What problem does it solve? -->
The following PR introduces a `/version` API that serves the build
details along with the version of the API server being served. The
`/version` endpoint allows users to programmatically query which exact
version of the registry is running in production for debugging.

caused some of the migrations to not apply. This PR fixes it. After
merging we'll have to reset staging as this would not work there (this
is expected).

The following PR addresses the feedback from #634 around:
* Use a proper library - https://github.com/distribution/reference,
instead of the implementing the OCI parsing ourselves (note: left the
tests so we can ensure we are not breaking any existing behavior)
* Updating one of the error messages to now assume MCPB.

While debugging
https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/registry/pull/631 noticed the
cache was weirdly implemented, so the following PR updates the caching
strategy across a few of our CI workflows.
- Replaced manual actions/cache with the built-in `cache: true` of
setup-go
- Switched from manual golangci-lint installation to their official
golangci-lint-action
- Removed redundant go mod download commands
- Added cache to the deployment pipeline for both staging and production
(we should see faster Pulumi deployments)
- Same for the release workflow so hopefully faster release builds

## Motivation and Context
<!-- Why is this change needed? What problem does it solve? -->
The following PR adds a new v0.1 API version.
The goal is to mark v0.1 as a "freeze" point while keeping v0 as the
moving target for new features so integrators can start building on top
of something stable(r).
Details:
* This change is quite simple - we re-register the same handlers twice,
once as `v0` and once as `v0.1`
* Going forward, we'll keep v0.1 frozen while we add changes either on
top of both (non-breaking) or we'll have to branch if breaking changes
are necessary
* We all acknowledge this is not exactly best-practice, but it gives us
a way to gather feedback and allow clients to start integrating with the
API without breaking them (**note** this implies a follow up PR that
would branch the handlers used in v0.1).
* For integrators/clients: please provide your feedback - what works
well, what doesn't so we can take this into account going towards GA.

<!-- Why is this change needed? What problem does it solve? -->
The following PR addresses the failing sync job -
https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/registry/actions/runs/18374711984/job/52345853050
**Root Cause**
1. Job detection failure: The workflow was looking for a job with a
specific labeling pattern (k8up.io/owned-by=restore), but k8up creates
jobs with a naming convention `restore-<restore-name>`
2. Race condition: The cleanup step (with if: always()) was deleting the
prod-to-staging-sync-credentials secret even when the restore job hadn't
been created yet or was still running
**The Fix**
1. Updated job detection logic: Now searches for jobs by name pattern
restore-$RESTORE_NAME instead of relying on labels
2. Added better diagnostics: If the job isn't found, the workflow now
shows:
- Restore resource status
- Any existing restore jobs
- k8up operator logs
3. Fixed cleanup race condition: The cleanup step now waits up to 2
minutes for any running restore jobs to complete before deleting
credentials
4. Improved error handling: Better logging when restore jobs fail,
including checking if credentials still exist
**The changes ensure:**
- The workflow correctly finds the k8up restore job
- Credentials aren't deleted while jobs are still running
- Better visibility into failures for easier debugging

The following PR adds a workflow that should:
* Runs daily but also can be manually triggered
* Drops the staging database and copies the prod database into it
This should improve our release confidence by reducing the likelihood of
regressions or unexpected breakages.
Copy from Claude:
```bash
What This Does:
1. Connects to prod → Extracts backup credentials
2. Switches to staging → Configures backup access
3. Creates restore PVC → 50GB temporary storage
4. Triggers k8up restore → Downloads latest prod backup
5. Waits for restore → With proper job discovery
6. Finds PostgreSQL PVC → Dynamically
7. Scales down DB → Safely
8. Copies data → With validation and backup
9. Scales up DB → With pod creation waiting
10. Verifies DB → Tests tables and queries
11. Cleans up → Removes temporary resources
```

This PR adds a Go tool that extracts the ServerDetail schema from
openapi.yaml and generates server.schema.json, ensuring the two specs
stay in sync.
## Key Changes
### New Tooling
- **Go tool** at `tools/extract-server-schema/` that auto-discovers all
schemas referenced by ServerDetail and extracts them from OpenAPI
- **make targets**: `generate-schema` (generates schema) and
`check-schema` (verifies sync)
- `check-schema` is now included in `make validate` and `make check`
### Preserved Validation Constraints
The initial auto-generated schema lost many important validation rules
and descriptive guidance from the hand-crafted version. The OpenAPI spec
has been updated to preserve:
**Security & Descriptions:**
- Command injection security warning on Arguments
- Detailed field descriptions with usage guidance
- `placeholder` field for Input schema
**Validation Constraints:**
- `fileSha256` pattern validation (`^[a-f0-9]{64}$`)
- Package version restrictions (minLength: 1, no "latest")
- `transport` as required field in Package
- ServerDetail `name` pattern and length constraints (3-200 chars)
- Description, title, and version length limits
**Documentation:**
- Repository field descriptions (url, source, id, subfolder)
- PositionalArgument `valueHint` explains transport URL substitution
- Updated examples to match hand-crafted version (Weather API theme)
**Intentional Changes:**
- Removed `additionalProperties` constraints for flexibility
- Updated schema title to be more descriptive
- Added `$comment` noting auto-generation
See the commit "Preserve validation constraints in auto-generated
server.schema.json" for details.
### Fixed Missing Package.transport
- Added `transport` field to OpenAPI Package schema (was in Go model at
`pkg/model/types.go:30` but missing from OpenAPI)
- Split transport types into three separate schemas with proper
discriminated unions:
- `StdioTransport` - Only requires `type: stdio`
- `StreamableHttpTransport` - Requires `type` and `url`, supports
`headers`
- `SseTransport` - Requires `type` and `url`, supports `headers`
- `Package.transport` uses `anyOf` with all three types
- `ServerDetail.remotes` uses `anyOf` with only remote types (no stdio)
### Other Improvements
- Added `GOTOOLCHAIN=auto` to Makefile for Go 1.25 compatibility
- Added `DRIFT_ANALYSIS.md` documenting all schema drift issues found
between specs
## Benefits
**Single Source of Truth**: The OpenAPI spec now serves as the
authoritative schema definition, with server.schema.json automatically
derived from it.
**Better Validation**: All critical validation rules (patterns, length
constraints, required fields) and security warnings are preserved in the
generated schema.
**Improved Developer Experience**:
- Schema changes only need to be made in one place (openapi.yaml)
- CI validation ensures specs never drift apart
- Clear auto-generation comment prevents manual edits
## Validation
✅ All 20 examples validate correctly
✅ Lint passes with 0 issues
✅ Schema is in sync with OpenAPI
✅ All validation constraints from hand-crafted schema preserved

Change Format constant from `file_path` to `filepath` to match the
OpenAPI schema definition.
This is not used by any servers yet, nor is it enforced by the database,
so it's safe to change.
Implements icon support based on the Model Context Protocol
specification, allowing servers to specify display icons with optional
size, MIME type, and theme variants.
## Changes
- Add `Icon` type to `pkg/model/types.go` with struct tags for automatic
API validation
- Add `icons` field to `ServerJSON` in `pkg/api/v0/types.go`
- Add icon validation in `internal/validators/validators.go`:
- Only HTTPS URLs allowed (no HTTP or data URIs)
- Maximum URL length of 255 characters
- Validates absolute URLs with proper scheme
- Update JSON schema and OpenAPI documentation with Icon definitions
- Add comprehensive test cases for icon validation
- Add example icon to seed.json (Airtable server)
- Change `websiteUrl` validation to HTTPS-only for consistency
## Implementation Details
The implementation uses a two-layer validation architecture:
1. **Huma framework** validates struct tags (`required`, `maxLength`,
`enum`, `pattern`) and returns 422 for violations
2. **Custom validators** handle business logic (HTTPS scheme
requirement, absolute URL requirement) and return 400 for violations
This approach leverages Huma's automatic validation while keeping
business-specific rules in the validator layer.
## Icon Field Specification
- `src` (required): HTTPS URL to icon resource, max 255 characters
- `mimeType` (optional): One of `image/png`, `image/jpeg`, `image/jpg`,
`image/svg+xml`, `image/webp`
- `sizes` (optional): Array of size strings in "WxH" format or "any" for
scalable formats
- `theme` (optional): Either "light" or "dark" to indicate intended
background
Multiple icons can be provided (e.g., for different themes or sizes).
Remove redundant endpoint as suggested in #617. Clients should now use
`GET /v0/servers/{serverName}/versions/latest` instead (using `latest`
as a special version value in the existing endpoint).
This simplifies the API surface and reduces implementation burden for
subregistries, while maintaining a clear migration path for consumers.
## Changes
- Removed `GET /v0/servers/{serverName}` endpoint
- Updated `GET /v0/servers/{serverName}/versions/{version}` to accept
`latest` as special version
- Updated all tests to use new endpoint pattern
- Updated documentation and OpenAPI spec
- Added breaking change notice to CHANGELOG

Some folks have been asking for the slides from the recent [Dev
Summit](https://mcpdevsummiteurope2025.sched.com/) presentation, and
figure this is the best place to store them.
- Clarified `value` field description to remove incorrect 'default'
wording
- Improved `valueHint` description to clarify its form and purpose
(labels and variable substitution)
- Fixed NamedArgument `description` to use correct flag syntax (--flag
{value})
- Enhanced `default` field description with guidance on valid values and
when to use placeholder instead
- Added optional Input `placeholder` field for input guidance and
examples

## Motivation and Context
After implementing a configuration UX for the registry supporting all
schema elements, performing schema validation on all published servers
and analyzing failures, and hand reviewing approximately a hundred
server configurations, I found a number of concerning issues
(essentially misconfigurations, verified by the docs of the server in
question, which often did not fail schema validation). I also found
"proper" configurations which disagreed with the schema guidance (for
example, all named args usage).
I documented those issues and my recommendations here:
https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/registry/discussions/572
The fairly modest changes in this PR will address these issues (or at
least make the correct usage more clear so that we can give more
explicit guidance that is consistent with the new schema, and generally
clean up these misconfiguration).
## How Has This Been Tested?
I used my own schema validation script to apply this schema to all
published servers. The changes are only documentation (description
updates) and the addition of a new field property, so no validation
behavior change was intended nor was any observed.
## Breaking Changes
No breaking changes

## Summary
Introduces a new optional `title` field for MCP servers to provide a
clean, human-readable display name that clients and subregistries can
use for display purposes.
Fixes#606
## Changes
- Added `title` field to `ServerJSON` type (optional, max 100 chars)
- Added validation to reject titles ending with 'MCP Server', 'MCP
server', or 'MCP' suffixes
- Updated JSON schema and OpenAPI specification
- Added comprehensive test coverage for title validation
- Updated all documentation examples to demonstrate the new field
## Validation
The title field:
- Is optional (can be omitted)
- Must not be only whitespace if provided
- Must not end with MCP-related suffixes (case-insensitive)
- Can contain 'MCP' in the middle (e.g., "MCP Weather API" is valid)
Examples:
- ✅ Valid: "GitHub", "Weather API", "Slack Integration"
- ❌ Invalid: "GitHub MCP", "Weather MCP Server", "Slack-MCP"

This PR simplifies the OpenAPI schema by merging the `Server` component
into `ServerDetail`, addressing the issue where the `Server` component
was never used independently.
## Changes
- Merged all Server properties directly into ServerDetail in both
OpenAPI spec and JSON schema
- Removed allOf construct for clearer, standalone definitions
- Deleted unused Server components
## Benefits
- Clearer schema structure
- Easier to understand without inheritance tracing
- Reduced maintenance complexity
- No functionality loss
## Validation
All schemas and documentation examples continue to validate
successfully.
